Chapter 552 The Outlook is Not Promising
"Thanks." Adrian hated that word. He didn't wanna say it to Pearl, and he sure as hell didn't wanna hear her well-wishes.
But what else could he do? This was the best they could get.
"I've got other plans. When I get back, if there's any business stuff, we can meet up." Pearl smiled, every word perfectly calculated.
"Alright." Adrian watched her walk away, his heart aching more with each step, like a beast gnawing at him.
'Some people are just better off never meeting,' he thought.
Pearl went back to Oscar, and he got her a juice. Not just for her, but for Christopher and RavenWing too.
Christopher got fries and fried chicken, RavenWing got coffee, and Oscar brought Harold along this time. Harold had never been there before, so he tagged along.
Plus, Harold could give some real-time business updates. He was a workaholic, always thinking about work, even while waiting for a flight.
RavenWing couldn't help but say, "I know you all love the kid, but Christopher's health isn't great. He shouldn't eat this stuff too much."
"Got it, it's just a treat." Oscar was actually pretty careful about these things; Christopher hadn't had this kind of food before, but he and Pearl felt they owed him.
"Take your time." Even though RavenWing said that, he was super considerate, wiping the oil from Christopher's mouth.
On the plane, Pearl had a dream.
In the dream, she saw a little girl holding a bouquet of roses, looking at her sweetly. "Can I go home with you?"
The little girl was super cute. Just as she reached out her hand, the dream ended.
Pearl felt it wasn't just a coincidence, but a sign.
If she had another kid, and it was a girl, she'd have both a son and a daughter.
But she had concerns.
Christopher was taken to Charles right after birth; she hadn't been there for him. If she had another kid now, all her focus would be on the newborn.
"What's wrong? Bad dream?" Oscar noticed Pearl's weird expression after waking up and got worried.
Pearl bit her lip and told Oscar what she was thinking.
Oscar pulled her into his arms. "It's okay. Let's just go with the flow. Christopher still has RavenWing, Louis, and me."
True, Christopher was really loved now. But their love couldn't replace a mother's love.
Pearl shook her head and said, "I'm not ready for another kid yet. I wanna wait until Christopher is completely healthy."
Oscar comforted her, "Even if we never have another, that's fine."
Even though they both regretted missing out on Christopher's upbringing, he respected all of Pearl's choices.
They landed in Eldorians eight hours later, where Louis and Jimena were there to pick them up.
The moment they saw Christopher, all eyes were on him, especially Jimena. She was totally smitten, showering him with all the stuff she'd bought.
Christopher was in their arms, and for a second, it looked like they were a little family of three.
Pearl couldn't help but tease, "Once you two tie the knot, you better have kids soon. And when you do, let me spoil them."
"You're not even in Eldorians, and Dad followed you to Willow Creek. Why don't you come to Eldorians? I'll pay you big bucks," Louis shot back.
It was true, the distance was a pain. Even though Pearl chose Willow Creek, Louis really wished she could stay with him.
Pearl got it, but Oscar was in Willow Creek, and so were Kittie and Evans. Everything she had was there.
She had zero interest in managing Eldorians.
Pearl laughed, "When Jimena has a baby, I'll come over to help."
They didn't have a mom, and even though Louis had power and could hire a nanny, nothing beat family.
Jimena's eyes got misty at Pearl's words. Louis agreed, and everyone around him accepted her. It felt awesome.
But then Louis brought up Paloma with RavenWing. "I've got a friend who was injected with some drug. It's a modified version of something Kevin cooked up. Dad, I need you to check it out."
Hearing Kevin's name, RavenWing's face darkened.
A modified drug by Kevin? But Kevin was living a miserable life now, even had his tongue cut out. How could Kevin still be pulling this crap? Or maybe, some idiots were still backing Kevin?
But Pearl caught the name "Paloma."
Pearl had a good memory and remembered meeting Louis in the northern part of Eldorians. She couldn't help but ask, "Is it the Paloma I know?"
"Yeah." Louis didn't hide it.
During the chaos, Paloma had cooked for her. Five years had passed, and now Paloma was here. Pearl felt she had to see her.
But she didn't expect Paloma's appearance to shock her. "Is Paloma like this because of the drug? Dad, you gotta do something. Please, help her."
Paloma being in the lab meant she had a connection with Louis. Given their past, Pearl couldn't just watch Paloma die.
RavenWing nodded. "I'll take a look. Don't worry, I'll do my best to save her."
But Paloma's condition was grim.
RavenWing shook his head, saying, "The poison's spread to her vital organs, and this modified drug is super toxic and incurable."
In other words, whoever targeted Paloma never planned to let her live; it was just a cruel trick.
If Paloma was incurable, she would've sacrificed her life for Louis.
Louis couldn't accept it. "Dad, you've spent so much time in the lab, you must have a way. Please, save her!"
RavenWing said, "If I could save her, I wouldn't hesitate."
