Chapter 609 I Am Absolutely Reliable

Not wanting to let her fans down, Janetta agreed.

The interview was a bust, and she just wanted to wrap it up and get out of there.

Finally, the investor took a call and said they had to leave, which made Janetta relieved.

Pearl pouted, "What am I gonna do with you? You don't want Damian's protection, but you can't bear to let your fans down either."

"It's fine, Damian's still out cold. I can't leave yet anyway, so let's just roll with what the investor want. Maybe next time they'll cut us some slack." Janetta forced a smile.

She wasn't feeling too confident.

If they were only interested because of Damian, everything would still hinge on his opinion.

She had been ready to pay for breaking the contract, but now she had to do another event.

Janetta sighed, and Pearl shot her an impatient look.

When they went downstairs, Pearl noticed someone tailing them—it was the woman who had been with Savannah that day.

The woman met Pearl's eyes, calmly raised her teacup, and gave a distant greeting.

Pearl nodded back, but her heart sank.

She had no clue what Savannah was up to by sending someone to follow them.

In the days that followed, Janetta holed up in her room painting, only coming down occasionally to eat with Pearl.

A week later, there was news about Damian; he had been moved from the ICU to a regular ward, which was a good sign.

But he still hadn't woken up.

Pearl wanted to tell Janetta but was stopped by Oscar.

Confused, she said, "I promised her I'd tell her as soon as there was news."

"As far as I know, Damian's still in the ICU. I don't doubt your source, but I do doubt the intentions behind the info." Oscar glanced upstairs, looking serious. "I've been digging around. Janetta's success is all thanks to Damian. Pearl, think about it, why would Damian help her?"

"I don't know, and I don't care." Pearl said firmly, "If Savannah wants to play games, I'll play along."

"Don't forget you're pregnant." Oscar gently pinched Pearl's face and said, "If the enemy doesn't move, we don't move. Let's see who cracks first."

Pearl agreed and kissed him on the cheek. "You always know what to do. As a reward, go get me some foot bath water."

"Got it," Oscar said and headed upstairs.

As he passed Janetta's room, he gave it a meaningful look.

The art exhibition was in three days. People had been coming to collect Janetta's paintings for the setup.

The ads were out, and the response was great. If it weren't for Damian, Janetta would have been thrilled with the results.

Knowing it was all because of Damian's help made her uneasy.

She felt like a fraud. She suddenly knocked her last painting to the ground.

Pearl rushed over at the noise and was shocked by the scene. "Is the pressure too much? It's okay. Let's take a break today; let's go out for a drink, sing, and shop."

Janetta didn't say a word, just squatted on the ground with her head in her hands. She stayed like that until she fell asleep right there.

On the day of the art exhibition, as soon as the host announced the opening, fans rushed in.

"What's going on? There's not a single painting here! What kind of exhibition is this? Refund!"

"Refund!"

Everyone started demanding their money back.

The host was stunned, and so was Janetta.

She had stayed up late painting these past few days, creating a total of 99 paintings. The hundredth one had been ruined by her.

But now, there were no paintings at the exhibition.

The investor got wind of the chaos and came over. Seeing the crowd blocking the entrance, they went to check it out themselves.

After a quick look around, they found that there really wasn't a single painting.

The investor was livid. "I don't care what happened, but this kind of insincere cooperation means you'll have to compensate me for my losses."

Then they told everyone, "If you want a refund, go find Ms. Clark. I was deceived by her too; I'm also a victim."

"No, I didn't deceive anyone. Their people took the paintings. I don't know why they weren't displayed." Janetta pulled out the receipts, each clearly stating which painting it was, who took it, and the time and place.

The investor frowned and snapped, "This Byron Reyes is not one of our people. Ms. Clark, if you're going to fake it, at least find someone from our company to cooperate with you."

Janetta explained, "I really didn't. My friend's house has surveillance. You can come with me, and I'll show you."

"Enough! Refund the tickets first. And my lawyer will talk to you tomorrow." The investor didn't believe Janetta and pushed her towards the crowd.

The ticket buyers surrounded Janetta, each demanding a refund.

Janetta didn't have that much money and could only helplessly endure their accusations and insults.

She felt dizzy and was about to collapse when someone pushed through the crowd to support her.

"Everyone, don't worry. I will arrange the refunds. Now, please go to that man for your refunds." The man Henry Doe pointed to was opening a suitcase, revealing cash inside.

Everyone rushed over. As long as someone was refunding, they didn't care who it was.

Henry carried Janetta to the car, gave her some water, and looked at her with concern.

Janetta gradually regained consciousness, and her first reaction upon seeing him was to get out of the car.

Henry quickly locked the car door and reminded her, "I just diverted their attention. If you go out now and get surrounded again, I can't guarantee I'll be able to save you."

Janetta looked at the situation outside and gave up the idea of getting out.

However, she still distanced herself from Henry and said directly, "I'll return the money to you tomorrow."

"The money is secondary. The important thing is you need to let me know what happened so I can help you."

"No need, I can handle it myself," Janetta refused.

She then thought of Pearl. As long as she told Pearl, Pearl would definitely have a solution.

Right now, Janetta only wanted to rely on Pearl, not anyone else, especially not a man.

"Please take me to this place," Janetta wrote down Pearl's address on her phone and asked Henry to take her there.

Henry nodded and didn't ask any questions about the place along the way.

As they approached, he slowed down. "Actually, you can try to rely on me, Janetta. I swear I'm reliable."

Janetta was amused by him, but then she shook her head sadly.

"Why? I don't need any repayment; I genuinely want to help you." Henry didn't understand why Janetta was unwilling to develop a closer relationship with him.
