Chapter 800 No Longer Stopping You
Jade showed up today, catching Saskia off guard. She could tell from Saskia's face that she wasn't thrilled to see her.
Jade had kept them apart, thinking George, now Nathaniel, would have a better shot at life with a new identity. But after everything that went down, she had a realization.
Nathaniel couldn't shake Saskia, and she had stayed loyal to him all these years. Even raising his son, Benjamin, without a single complaint.
The fifty million dollars had cleared the family's debts ages ago, but Saskia never asked for more. She was something else, and Jade couldn't help but admire her.
Saskia broke the silence first, "Don't try to convince me. Talk to Nathaniel. He's the one who can't let go."
Saskia had played the part of the cold, money-hungry woman, yet Nathaniel still clung to her. If Jade wanted to cut their ties for good, she had to tackle the real issue—Nathaniel.
Jade was surprised Saskia still respected her wishes. "You could've told Nathaniel the truth. Why didn't you?" she asked.
Saskia looked down. "I have my reasons, and you have yours. If you'd let me stay with Nathaniel back then, you wouldn't have given me fifty million to leave him."
She took the money, so she had to stick to her word. Plus, she knew she couldn't compete with Jade. Why waste time on something impossible?
Saskia summed it up in one sentence, and Jade finally saw Saskia's strength and Nathaniel's stubbornness.
Jade said, "After you took the money and vanished, he searched everywhere for you but couldn't find you. He fell into a deep depression."
Saskia's breath hitched. She hadn't known any of this; Nathaniel never mentioned it. But she knew she had hurt him deeply.
She had tried to avoid Nathaniel, but it never worked. Even now, things had gotten this bad. Sometimes she felt like a sinner.
Jade saw the sadness in Saskia's eyes and realized how wrong she had been. She shouldn't have kept two people who loved each other apart.
"Saskia, be honest with Nathaniel. I won't stand in your way anymore," Jade said.
Saskia looked at her in disbelief, thinking she might be hallucinating. She pinched her palm, and it hurt, so it wasn't a dream. But how could Jade, who always disliked her, suddenly change her tune?
Saskia was confused. "Why the sudden change of heart?"
Jade replied, "I had high hopes for Amy, but no matter how great she is, Nathaniel just doesn't care for her. He keeps you around to defy me, to show you're the one he loves. The deeper the love, the deeper the hate. He's my son; I can't keep making things hard for him."
Parents are all the same, after all.But Azalea had feelings for Nathaniel too.
Handing Nathaniel over to Azalea? That would be a disaster. Nathaniel would be livid; he's not some prize to be handed out. To Azalea, it would feel like she was cruelly snatching away her love.
Saskia loved Nathaniel and had always dreamed of being with him. But reality had to be faced.
She couldn't be with Nathaniel anymore.
Thinking this, she shook her head. "I can't be with Nathaniel, Mrs. Egan. Thanks for not standing in our way anymore, but Nathaniel and I have been apart for four years. I'm not the same Saskia. Let him remember me as I was."
Let Nathaniel hate her; over time, he'd eventually let go of his obsession.
"Why? Do you want Nathaniel to hate you forever? Don't you want to give Benjamin a complete family? Or is it because of Azalea? Do you want to hand Nathaniel over to her?" Jade's words hit hard.
Saskia had thought about it, but it was clearly impossible.
She shook her head. "Azalea and Nathaniel wouldn't accept it. I just think we've been apart too long."
"But he hasn't forgotten you. This is all my fault. If you don't want to tell him, I will." Jade was blunt.
Realizing her mistake, she had one goal: to make Nathaniel happy.
Sometimes, the person who caused the problem should fix it. Nathaniel's issues needed Saskia to heal.
Saskia said, "Mrs. Egan, please don't."
Jade said, "Haven't you noticed how much Nathaniel cares for you?"
When Saskia was sick, Nathaniel immediately called Quincy. Even though he kept her here, she lacked nothing.
He knew Benjamin wasn't his child, yet he helped Saskia find Benjamin.
At that moment, Jade truly realized her mistake.
She took a deep breath and continued, "Saskia, Nathaniel did a paternity test the first time he saw Benjamin. But I deliberately altered the results."
Hearing this, Saskia stayed calm.
When Nathaniel had angrily confronted her, she knew he had done something and that someone wouldn't let him know the truth.
Now that Jade had revealed the truth, everything felt so clear.
At that moment, Nathaniel had heard everything and was uncontrollably furious. He couldn't accept it. "Why did you do this? You forced her to take the fifty million dollars. You made her betray me. You altered the paternity test results. Do you know how weak Benjamin is? If I had known he was my child, I would have brought him to me immediately!"
Jade was deeply pained.
The saying "There are no secrets that time does not reveal" had proven true.
Nathaniel had found out.
Jade deeply regretted and said, "Nathaniel, I just wanted you to have a better life."
She reached out to grab Nathaniel, but he pushed her away. "You wanted me to have a better life? Have I had a good life these past years? I've been living in pain and confusion."
If it weren't for his career, his love for his job, and his desire to find Saskia, would Nathaniel even be here?
Nathaniel was extremely angry. No one expected him to cough up blood.
As he staggered, Saskia rushed to his side to support him.
