Chapter 776 Only One Son
Jade was seriously kicking herself for this decision.
If she had known it would end up like this, she never would've asked this guy for help. "You always hide behind that mask, too scared to show your real face. What kind of man does that?" she snapped.
"Jade, do you really think provoking me will make me take off the mask and do what you want like some obedient dog?" The more worked up Jade got, the calmer the masked man seemed.
There was even a hint of amusement in his voice.
Jade was about to lose it. "Just name your price. How much will it take to get my son out?"
She was ready to pay any amount to get Nathaniel out safe and sound.
The masked man shook his head. "This isn't about money. If money could solve it, you wouldn't be here asking me for help."
The truth was, Jade had come to him because she had no other options, pinning her last hope on him.
But he had no solution either.
The masked man spread his hands. "I didn't make the laws, and my connections aren't as good as the Egan family's. If you can't do anything, neither can I. I suggest you stop worrying. Worst case, let him stay in there."
"How can I not worry?" Jade wanted to slap him.
It was her son who had been taken, not his. Of course, he could say whatever he wanted without a care.
"If you're so worried, why did you set your own son up? Sure, I did the dirty work, but you funded it. Without your money, I couldn't have done anything. The person who really put your son in jail is you, Jade!" His words hit Jade like a ton of bricks.
Her hands trembled uncontrollably.
It wasn't like that. She just didn't want Nathaniel to waste his time.
He should marry Amy and take over the Egan Group. That was the life he deserved.
Everything Jade did was for Nathaniel's own good. How could she be harming him?
"Jade, this is the last time we'll meet. I'm leaving now." The masked man turned to go.
Jade quickly grabbed his arm. "You ruined my son's life, but you think you can just leave?"
"What else?" The masked man gently pushed her hand away. "I have records of our conversations. I doubt you want those going public."
He didn't need to finish the sentence; Jade could figure out the rest.
If those records went public, it would be a huge scandal.
The Egan Group would be completely destroyed.
The Egan Group was Jade's life. She couldn't let it be ruined.
Despite her reluctance, Jade had to watch the masked man leave.
With that path closed, she had only one option left.
Jade drove home and immediately called Nathaniel's friends, asking them all to come over.
This was a serious matter, and everyone took it seriously.
Within an hour, the living room was packed.
"Please, have some fruit," Jade said, her eyes red.
But no one was in the mood to eat.Oscar was the first to break the silence. "Mrs. Egan, what exactly happened to Nathaniel? Lay it all out for us, and we'll see what we can do."
"Thank goodness he has friends like you. Otherwise, I'd be completely lost." Jade then spilled everything, conveniently leaving out her own involvement.
The room went dead quiet, and everyone's faces turned grim.
"I've known Nathaniel since he was a kid. He would never do something like this. He must have been framed." Jade's heart ached as she spoke.
With Nathaniel taken away, all she could think about were his good qualities.
Except for his reluctance to follow her plans for marriage and career, he was perfect.
"Mrs. Egan, don't worry. We'll figure something out." Desiree stood up and led Jade to the study. "You should rest. Don't wear yourself out."
Harold's eyes followed her.
Only when Desiree returned and sat beside him did he relax.
Seeing this, James couldn't help but comment, "You two have such a great relationship. I heard rumors you were having issues, but that must be false."
Seeing them now, it was clear they were deeply in love. How could they have problems?
Even if they did, Harold would always give in to Desiree.
Desiree smiled. "We did have some issues before, but that just made us cherish each other more. He's always worrying, not just about me, but about the baby too. He's already thinking about buying baby clothes."
Even though she still had several months to go before the baby was due!
"I'm just being prepared." Harold held her hands, and they smiled. "But let's focus on getting Nathaniel out. His situation is too serious to delay."
"If he's convicted, it'll be too late. We need to see him and get the full story." Yet Quincy knew it would be hard to see Nathaniel now.
"I think we should start by investigating his assistant. Even if the assistant isn't the one who framed him, they might know something." Oscar suggested.
After a brief discussion, they decided to split up to speed up the investigation.
Jade, having composed herself, returned from the study. "I'm sorry for my earlier outburst. Please, you have to save Nathaniel. He's my only son. If something happens to him, I won't be able to go on."
"Mrs. Egan, don't worry. We will." Desiree reassured her before they all left.
Jade personally saw them out, repeatedly urging them to save Nathaniel, only turning back after they reached the gate.
Before getting into the car, Desiree asked Oscar, "Why are you here alone? Where's Pearl?"
"She's at the hospital with RavenWing. The doctors said late-stage cancer is hard to cure, but with a positive attitude and treatment, she could live for five more years. Pearl wants to spend as much time with her as possible." Oscar understood Pearl's feelings.
