Chapter 154 Another Suicide Attempt
Oscar said with a cold tone.
The things Pearl wanted to keep meant nothing to Oscar; they were laughable and indifferent.
Pearl felt the irony. "I was just asking, after all, it's a free trip. I don't want to waste it. I don't want to talk so much nonsense. Is there anything else?"
It meant that if there was nothing else, she would leave.
Oscar didn't say anything.
So Pearl left.
Oscar didn't expect that Haley would commit suicide.
Mae called urgently. "Mr. Brown, Haley said she never intended to blame everything on Pearl. I watched her take the liquid vitamin supplement."
"I was with Haley. I couldn't harm her. Haley said she didn't want your company to be criticized, so she could only prove her innocence by dying..."
Mae's voice trembled violently, filled with genuine fear.
"How is she now?" Oscar's expression was tense.
Mae cried out. "She is still in ICU. Mr. Brown, you should come over, I'm afraid..."
Mae couldn't finish her sentence.
"Alright, I'm coming."
Oscar's voice was low, and he didn't say much more.
He just looked tense and walked out quickly.
When Oscar drove to the entrance, he saw Pearl standing by the roadside.
Pearl had called a taxi.
She didn't want to have anything to do with Oscar and naturally wouldn't want to use his resources or bother his driver.
However, the taxi was still 2.8 miles away, so she had to wait.
Oscar stopped the car in front of her. "Get in, I'll take you to Janetta's house."
"I called a taxi."
With Oscar's gaze on her, Pearl's voice softened.
Oscar's sharp gaze made it clear that he wouldn't take no for an answer.
Pearl had no choice but to cancel the order.
Pearl also sensed the heavy atmosphere in the car and noticed Oscar's somber mood. She refrained from asking, assuming Oscar was angry with her, until she checked the news on her phone.
Haley attempted suicide to prove her innocence!
Haley was innocent, and there was no acting involved. Haley's suicide made the evidence Pearl had released seem weak.
Pearl suddenly felt a chill run through her as she realized Oscar's offer to take her to Janetta's might have been a ruse to lead her to Haley's place.
"Oscar, stop the car," Pearl demanded, her voice steady despite her rising anxiety. "I don't need you to take me there. Haley's suicide has nothing to do with me. I didn't poison her."
Pearl became more and more agitated as she spoke, a situation even Oscar hadn't expected. Fortunately, the car's central lock was engaged, preventing Pearl from opening the door in her emotional state.
However, Oscar quickly pulled over.
Oscar held Pearl's hand. "Pearl, you're overthinking. I wasn't planning to take you to Haley's place. I said I'd take you to Janetta's place, and that's true."
Oscar spoke slowly, his voice gentle.
But given the recent events and the long silence, his voice was hoarse, revealing a deep undertone.
Pearl was unwilling to believe. "Haley tried to commit suicide. She means a lot to you. You even created an entertainment company for her. You must have a strong reaction."
"Oscar, I won't commit murder. I want to divorce you, it's not because I'm fleeing from crime, it's a result that was decided at the very beginning of our marriage!"
Pearl hoped Oscar could calm down.
Otherwise, if he took Pearl to Haley to atone, who knows what kind of punishment would await her? If it affected the baby in her womb, it would be a lifelong pain.
Oscar had to physically restrain her to calm her down. "I won't take you to Haley's place. If you don't trust me, call Janetta to come get you," he said.
Given Pearl's current state, Oscar wasn't comfortable letting her leave alone.
Pearl stared at Oscar in disbelief.
Finally, seeing that Oscar wasn't saying anything, Pearl quickly called Janetta. "Janetta, I'll send you my location. Come pick me up right now."
Pearl's voice was trembling.
Janetta noticed but didn't ask much, "Alright, I'm on my way."
Pearl's hands were shaking as she sent her location to Janetta.
After that, Oscar finally spoke, "Now you should believe me. I had no intention of taking you to her."
Pearl felt miserable. At this moment, she didn't know how to respond to Oscar or describe her feelings.
Pearl was so afraid something would happen to the baby inside her, and so worried that Oscar would take her to Haley to make amends.
After a moment of silence, Pearl slowly spoke, "Oscar, Haley used suicide to prove her innocence. I could do the same, but it's a foolish act. If you don't believe me, you can have someone investigate further."
Oscar slowly said, "You've already released the evidence."
Pearl had already provided evidence to show she was innocent, so there was no need for further investigation. Oscar had known from the start that Pearl was not to blame.
Pearl was stunned, realizing she had misjudged Oscar.
Apologizing seemed pointless at this moment.
Pearl lowered her head. "Haley is important to you, Oscar. This situation isn't my fault."
"I'm not blaming you," Oscar said calmly.
At this moment, Oscar's expression was also calm.
Pearl didn't respond.
The atmosphere in the car became very quiet.
Oscar was the first to speak, "You don't need to worry about Haley. Since you didn't do it, it won't implicate you. If you want to stay with Janetta for a few days, that's okay. The trip to France is probably next Friday or Saturday."
"Okay."
Pearl had nothing more to say.
Janetta arrived quickly. As soon as Janetta got out of the car, Oscar unlocked the central lock.
Pearl said nothing, then opened the door, and walked towards Janetta.
Janetta didn't approach, but her eyes were cold and sharp.
Once Pearl got into Janetta's car, Janetta asked, "What happened? Why was the car stopped by the roadside, and you asked me to pick you up?"
Pearl was honest, saying, "Hathaway asked me to deliver liquid vitamin supplements to Haley, but something went wrong after she took them. Even after I proved my innocence, Haley attempted suicide. I thought he was going to take me to Haley!"
