Chapter 819 Clarification
The man lunged for Saskia.
She tried to dodge, but he was too quick. Pain shot through her wrist as he grabbed it. "What do you want?"
She raised her other hand, clutching her phone, and hit the call button.
But he was ready. He snatched the phone and smashed it.
The phone clattered to the ground, and Saskia realized she had been too hasty and underestimated these guys.
"Try calling the cops now," the man sneered.
Not far away, Marcus saw what was happening and started to rush over. "Saskia, hang on! I'm coming!"
"Stay back!" Saskia shouted.
She was already surrounded. She couldn't let Marcus get hurt too.
Her urgent tone made Marcus stop, but his worry only grew.
He paced back and forth, frantic.
The man noticed her talking to Marcus and squinted, recognizing him. He became even more certain she was with the Egan Group. "So, you're with the Egan Group. Nathaniel sent you? You're pretty, aren't you scared of getting hurt?"
He followed his words with a disgusting laugh.
Saskia stayed calm. "You know Nathaniel?"
Despite the pain in her wrist, she was still thinking clearly.
He knew Nathaniel, confirming her suspicion that they were targeting the Egan Group. But she still didn't know who was behind it.
The man's eyes turned dangerous, and he tightened his grip. "Oh, trying to get info out of me, huh?"
Saskia didn't let her failed attempt discourage her.
With her free hand, she quickly pulled out pepper spray from her bag and sprayed it in the man's eyes.
He let out a piercing scream.
He angrily tried to grab her.
But Saskia had already slipped away like a fish.
The man was furious. "You bitch, if I catch you, I'll kill you!"
Saskia kept running, with a group of people chasing her. She finally reached her car, but before she could catch her breath, she was surrounded again.
The car doors were locked, but the group started smashing the windows with shovels.
The sound of the blows was deafening.
Saskia's heart was pounding. She finally realized how terrifying these people were. Laws and morals meant nothing to them.
"Are you okay? Let's get out of here," Marcus said, trying to start the car.
At that moment, the window couldn't withstand the repeated blows and shattered.
Broken glass flew inside.
Saskia screamed and dodged.
The shovel landed right where she had been sitting.
She couldn't imagine the horror if she hadn't moved in time.
"These people are insane! They don't treat people like humans!" Marcus was furious.
Saskia looked outside in fear. The car was surrounded, and they couldn't move.
It felt like they were trapped on an island surrounded by the sea.
Just when Saskia didn't know what to do, the people outside suddenly scattered, and she heard police sirens in the distance.
She pushed the door open and stumbled.
Nathaniel caught her, his cool embrace carrying a faint scent. "Are you hurt?"
Saskia heard the concern in his voice and asked, a bit choked up, "Why are you here?"
Marcus had told him about Saskia's danger on the way. Nathaniel didn't want her to come because he was very busy today and might not be able to arrive in time.
Saskia understood this deeply.
She had seen Nathaniel's exhausted state yesterday, and it was still fresh in her mind.
He was so tired, and she didn't want to trouble him with everything.
But Nathaniel still came.
"I thought you wouldn't come," Saskia said, her voice wavering. She hadn't cried out in pain when her wrist was nearly crushed, but now she felt a bit aggrieved.
Maybe that's how people are. They can be strong in the face of anything, except when faced with concern.
Nathaniel hugged the slightly teary-eyed Saskia, his shoulders trembling. "Sorry, I'm late."
Saskia didn't resist and leaned into him for a while.
The troublemakers were taken into custody.
Saskia was about to get into Nathaniel's car when she caught sight of a sneaky woman with a DSLR camera.
"That woman is a paparazzo!" she shouted.
Nathaniel's sharp gaze shot over, instantly startling the woman. She turned to run.
But she didn't get far and was caught.
Nathaniel looked at the camera, his face darkening.
Saskia didn't understand at first until she saw the photos in the camera.
The camera's storage was full of their photos, including ones from when they went to the mall to buy supplies for Benjamin.
She was so angry her hands shook. She recognized the woman.
"You're the one we bumped into last time."
"I'm not."
Saskia wasn't sure at first, having only seen her once. But seeing the woman's hurried denial, she was certain.
It was her!
No wonder she didn't say anything when they bumped into her.
She had been secretly following and taking photos.
Saskia thought about the online rumors over the past few days and suspected her. "Did you post the photos online too?"
The woman didn't admit it.
"You better think carefully. It's better to be in our hands, but if you don't talk, we'll have to take you to the police," Saskia said coldly.
The woman panicked and, after some hesitation, confessed, "I posted them."
So it was her.
Saskia felt a bit relieved and immediately demanded the woman take down the photos and help them clarify the truth.
But the woman looked troubled. "I can't decide that. I sold the photos to someone else, and they asked me to spread the rumors."
Saskia was shocked. She hadn't expected this.
Suddenly learning a secret, she was eager to ask more.
Nathaniel interrupted in time. "This isn't the place to talk. Let's discuss it in the car."
Saskia looked at the chaotic surroundings and nodded.
The woman was taken with them into the car, where she confessed everything she knew.
When asked who had instructed her, they hit a wall.
The woman told them, "I don't know who he is. He contacted me anonymously. I've never met him, only have a bank account."
From the woman, they got the bank account number.
Nathaniel noted it down, planning to investigate later.
As for the woman, she had to cooperate with them to issue a statement.
That evening, a clarification statement was posted online, and the rumors eased significantly.
Saskia also used her Twitter to post a long explanation in the Egan Group's account comments, clarifying their relationship.
The trending topic changed immediately.
"It's resolved now," she sighed in relief, seeing no more hateful comments on Twitter, feeling much more at ease.
