Chapter 877 Sarcasm
Saskia spotted a big bouquet of red roses.
"Did you already know?"
"So, I got you flowers. Can you forgive me?"
Nathaniel smiled gently. It was hard to believe that someone usually so distant could have such a tender side.
After a moment, Saskia took the flowers from his hand. "I guess I can manage."
Seeing her still being stubborn, Nathaniel turned his face away and chuckled.
Benjamin covered his face, peeking through his fingers.
Pearl coughed. "Alright, we get it, you two are close. But can we sit down and eat now? The food's gonna get cold."
Saskia pulled Benjamin over.
Everyone sat down to eat.
She didn't see the housekeeper and wondered who had made all the food. She looked around and asked Pearl, "Did you make all this?"
Pearl nodded, serving Christopher some food. "I made some of it, and your husband made the rest."
She pointed at Nathaniel.
Saskia looked at him, a hint of surprise in her eyes. "Weren't you at the office all day?"
Nathaniel ladled her a bowl of soup, his movements practiced, clearly having done this many times. "Some dishes need to be prepared in advance. I learned how to make them and stored them in the fridge."
Saskia opened her mouth but didn't know what to say. She felt touched and amused.
They had gone to such lengths to celebrate her birthday.
Even Saskia had almost forgotten it was her birthday today.
She hadn't celebrated her birthday in years.
It was hard to imagine how they had managed to keep it a secret and coordinate everything behind her back.
Benjamin pouted. "Mom, are you not happy? I helped make the food too."
Saskia laughed, pinching his cheek. "I'm happy. Since you made it, you should eat more."
When it was time to cut the cake, she did it herself.
Most of the cake ended up with the two kids, and the rest was stored in the fridge.
Kids loved high-calorie treats, but adults got sick of them quickly.
Saskia was trying to lose weight and didn't want to consume too much sugar at night.
As the evening wore on, she personally escorted Pearl downstairs.
Pearl, holding Christopher, winked at her before leaving. "Nathaniel seems to have another surprise for you. Make sure to search the house carefully."
Saskia was taken aback. "There's more?"
She thought the flowers were it.
Seeing her reaction, Pearl sighed dramatically and said, "Some people don't know how lucky they are. Others would be thrilled to get as much as possible from their husbands."
"Look at you, complaining about the trouble."
Saskia smiled helplessly. "I'm not complaining. It just feels too formal."
"Well, Nathaniel wants to treat you well. Isn't that great? He's really good to you. You made the right choice." Pearl patted her shoulder and got into the car.
Saskia stood in the cold wind for a while.
Just a moment later, a coat was draped over her shoulders.
The coat was still warm, as if it had just been taken off someone. The scent was familiar to Saskia.
Nathaniel's voice followed, low and gentle. "Everyone's gone. Why are you still standing here? Let's go back inside."
She responded softly.
As they walked up the stairs, she suddenly asked, "Pearl told me you have another surprise for me hidden in the house. Where is it?"
Nathaniel paused, raising an eyebrow slightly. "I can't tell you. You have to find it yourself."
He was playing mysterious, and Saskia felt sweetly amused.
It turned out Nathaniel hadn't hidden it very well.
When she went to bed, Saskia found the surprise under her pillow.
It was a photo.
Under a famous tower abroad, Azalea and Heidi stood together, smiling happily.
She was stunned, her eyes instantly welling up with tears. She choked up and asked Nathaniel beside her, "How did you find them?"
Nathaniel placed his hand on her shoulder, half-hugging her. He paused before picking up the photo. "I didn't find them. They found me."
Nathaniel explained.
He had received a letter from overseas yesterday.
In today's internet age, letters were rare. It had taken a long time to arrive from abroad. Even if he flew over immediately, he wouldn't be able to find them.
Nathaniel looked down and said, "I think they remembered your birthday and timed it to send you this photo."
Saskia finally placed the photo in a frame and set it on her nightstand.
Saskia finished her draft in a day.
Electra had timed it perfectly, striding into the Egan Group in high heels. "Saskia, how's the project I asked for? Any progress?"
Saskia was about to answer.
Electra interrupted, fiddling with her nails. "It's okay if you haven't. I'm not some villain who deliberately makes things difficult."
Saskia almost laughed out loud.
"You think the conditions you set aren't difficult?"
"Of course not."
Electra smiled, raising an eyebrow and looking at her smugly, as if certain Saskia wouldn't do anything. "If I really wanted to make things hard for you, would I have gone through the trouble of finding the Egan Group?"
"Go on," Saskia took a deep breath, holding back.
Her efforts over the past two days hadn't been in vain.
Compared to when Electra first arrived, she had made significant progress. She wouldn't be as flustered as last time, despite Electra's condescending attitude.
Electra glanced at Saskia, then rolled her eyes. "You can't compare to Amy. I can't understand why Nathaniel would choose you!"
"I thought we were here to discuss business."
"Fine, you don't need to remind me. I brought a professional team. Present the project as a PPT."
Electra's casual attitude would leave anyone speechless.
Saskia couldn't understand what was going through her mind.
If she had a professional team, why outsource the project? Was she just bored?
But Saskia held back her complaints. "Alright, follow me."
She led them to an empty conference room.
Electra's professional team consisted of five people, both men and women, all staring at Saskia.
Creating a PPT wasn't easy. If Saskia had only prepared a paper plan, she would be caught off guard now.
Facing their scrutiny, Saskia would be mortified.
That was Electra's plan—simple but effective.
There was a minor issue with the projector. Saskia tapped the machine, which seemed to be malfunctioning.
Electra's mockery followed immediately. "What's wrong, Ms. Fuller? Didn't you prepare the PPT? Don't tell me a big company's secretary can't even do that?"
