Chapter 186 Have You Ever Thought of Me When Facing Difficulties?
Oscar asked several questions, and Pearl didn't know how to answer.
"My injury is no big deal." Seeing Queenie there and Oscar not caring about the others' stares, Pearl felt a bit worried and quickly stepped out of Oscar's embrace.
"Why didn't you answer the phone?" Oscar frowned, still concerned, and asked again, "What happened?"
Oscar looked at Sophia and noticed she was there.
Sophia felt a bit embarrassed and called out, "Oscar."
Sophia hesitated. "Pearl saved me. I already feel very guilty. I hope you don't blame me."
Sophia never dreamed that Pearl would come to her rescue.
Sophia believed that even if a stranger had come to help, Pearl would have looked on indifferently, especially considering their past conflict.
Pearl saving Sophia made Sophia feel very sorry.
She also regretted what she had done before.
Pearl wasn't as difficult to approach as others said, nor was she a bad woman.
Sophia felt very remorseful and just hoped Oscar wouldn't blame her. She promised herself that such a thing would never happen again.
"Save you?" Oscar looked at their disheveled state, noticing they were brought back by a police car, and frowned again. "You went out to have fun and encountered danger. Didn't you bring bodyguards?"
"I..." Sophia didn't expect to go to such a place. "I was with a friend."
"Who?"
"Aurora."
Oscar pursed his lips together and asked, "Where is she?"
"I don't know."
Oscar said coldly, "You went out with her and she disappeared when you were in danger, and Pearl had to save you."
Sophia's eyes reddened again upon hearing his words.
Pearl changed the subject. "If you encountered something, would you just stand by and watch?"
"What kind of danger did you encounter?" Oscar still wanted to know.
Sophia recounted the events.
Oscar's frown deepened, and he looked at Pearl with great concern.
"I'm sorry." Sophia apologized, still a bit scared, and started crying again. "I made you worry."
Oscar didn't say much in front of Sophia. Seeing her disheveled state, he said, "Harold, take Sophia to the bathroom"
"Okay," Harold said. "Miss Doe, this way, please."
"Okay." Sophia nodded, dejectedly following him.
Oscar looked at Pearl and said in a calm tone, "Did you see my call?"
Pearl's phone was on silent. When Oscar mentioned it, she turned it on and saw over a dozen missed calls.
"My phone was on silent. It was an urgent situation at the time, and I didn't notice. Sorry." Pearl had no idea why he had called so many times.
Oscar only knew Pearl had gone out and, seeing she hadn't returned for so long, had a bad feeling.
Not answering the phone confirmed it.
He wanted to go out and find her.
Then Pearl came back, with scratches on her face.
Oscar's tone remained serious. "Turn the volume up next time so you can hear it."
"Got it."
They both went inside.
But Oscar was still unhappy, constantly staring at Pearl.
Noticing Oscar's gaze, Pearl asked, "Is there something dirty on me?"
Oscar, hands in his pockets, didn't answer immediately but walked past her into the office coldly.
Pearl followed, sensing he had something to say.
Oscar sat down, looked at her, and asked seriously, "Pearl, do you know what danger is?"
Pearl nodded. "Today's situation was extremely dangerous."
"If you knew it was dangerous, why did you still go to help?"
"I..."
Oscar interrupted her, continuing, "What if the police didn't show up in time?"
Pearl hadn't thought about that. She believed she could handle the situation and didn't want Oscar to worry, so she said lightly, "I had the timing calculated, there wouldn't be any problem."
"Pearl, have you never been seriously injured in your life?"
Oscar's expression was very serious, frowning. Every word made him uncomfortable.
If something had happened to her, it would have been too late.
Pearl paused, not sure how to answer Oscar.
She seriously considered his words.
Her life had been quite peaceful since childhood, except for that she was kidnapped once.
But even then, she wasn't hurt; the biggest injury was borne by Oscar.
Pearl said, "I haven't had any serious injuries, just minor ones."
"What if the police hadn't arrived, or you hadn't escaped in time? Would you have been beaten up? Before saving others, can you make sure you don't get hurt? What if something unexpected happens?"
"It's just a minor issue."
"The next time it could be a major issue." Oscar's voice was low. "I know you saved her because she's Hunter's granddaughter, but I don't want you to get hurt. Before protecting others, protect yourself first. You should have called me. No matter where you are, I would have come immediately."
Oscar seemed really worried about Pearl.
He continued to express his concerns.
Pearl knew he was afraid she would get hurt, and it touched her heart a bit.
"When you face difficulties, have you ever thought of me?" Oscar asked again.
Pearl was momentarily stumped by his question.
She didn't like to trouble others.
To her, Oscar was just her husband in name, so it was even more impossible for her to trouble him.
Whenever she faced difficulties, Pearl always thought of solving them herself.
Of course, in their marriage, he had helped her.
She had also paid an equal price, so it wasn't really troubling him.
Maybe it was her pride that wouldn't allow it.
Seeing Pearl not speaking, Oscar continued, "You've been with me for so long, taking care of everything, never making me worry. Why do you think I wouldn't help you when you face difficulties?"
"Got it. If there's a next time, I'll think of you," Pearl felt pressured by his question and answered to avoid further entanglement.
Her words sounded compliant, but Oscar's gaze remained on her.
He realized something.
Pearl never seemed to see him as her husband, but she always fulfilled the responsibilities of a wife.
Pearl understood Oscar very well.
Oscar indeed enjoyed all the good things Pearl did.
But Pearl never seemed to expect anything from him.
Was this good or bad?
Oscar paid no attention to these things, nor did he care if Pearl needed him.
Now, Oscar felt this was the problem between them.
"Remember, I am your husband."
Oscar wanted to tell her that he would fulfill the responsibilities of a husband as well.
However, Pearl wouldn't focus too much on what he said. If you expect too much and get little, that sense of disparity is the hardest to bear.
Oscar had someone bring iodine to disinfect Pearl's wound.
Pearl initially thought it wasn't necessary, as it was just a small scratch.
But Oscar insisted, even though it was just a small wound, he made a big deal out of it.
"The car was damaged, I took it for repairs," Pearl said.
