Chapter 155 We're Just Friends
Hearing this, Janetta finally understood.
Janetta sneered. "It's just an attempt. No one knows if she really cut her wrist. Since the original manufacturer confirmed that the packaging hadn't been tampered with a second time, the problem must lie with Haley."
In fact, Haley just wanted to use suicide to divert everyone's attention, and to prove her innocence.
Some people would think that if Haley was willing to die to prove her innocence, then they would turn around and slander Pearl, questioning her instead.
This was a risky move by Haley.
Pearl didn't respond, but her mood was particularly heavy.
What Haley did was her business, but the key was that Oscar would never let anything happen to Haley, and Hathaway also cared a lot about Haley.
While driving, Janetta brought up Hathaway. "It's really funny. You haven't even divorced Oscar Brown yet, and Hathaway wants to make Haley Oscar's lover?"
"Maybe."
Hathaway indeed likes Haley a lot.
If Hathaway hadn't casually mentioned it back then, the person married to Oscar now would be Haley. Given their relationship, they would probably already have kids by now.
Pearl leaned back in her seat. "Janetta, I'm so tired. Wake me up when we get there, okay?"
"Okay, have a rest."
Janetta didn't say anything more.
To make Pearl more comfortable, Janetta adjusted the temperature in the car.
All the way, Janetta drove very carefully and steadily.
Oscar arrived at the hospital.
Haley was already lying on the hospital bed, her face extremely pale, and her wrist wrapped in thick white bandages.
The moment she saw Oscar appear, a glimmer of light appeared in Haley's previously lifeless eyes. "Oscar, you're here."
Oscar's face was tense, exuding a cold aura. "Don't you think this is a very foolish act?"
Using suicide to prove innocence.
"Innocence" is important, but only when someone was still alive. After all, those online trolls who post malicious comments won't feel any guilt.
They certainly wouldn't regret it for the rest of their lives if Haley really died.
Haley's tears continuously streaming down. "No, to me, it's very important. I don't want to see those people attacking me. I am innocent. I never said this had anything to do with Pearl. I was the first to investigate it. I didn't expect the netizens to be so crazy!"
She probably never expected Pearl to put those things online.
"Public opinion is hard to control. Don't do anything foolish again." Oscar pulled out a chair and sat in front of Haley.
Haley felt miserable.
After a moment of silence, Haley slowly spoke and looked up at Oscar, her eyes full of expectation. "Oscar, I've affected your company. I'm sorry tolet you down."
Oscar slowly said, "Didn't I just make it clear? Don't worry about others, and don't do such foolish things again."
A smile finally appeared on Haley's face. "Oscar, you're so kind. Thank you for not blaming me!"
"The netizens are too aggressive. I want to be discharged," Haley's voice was hoarse, with tears still hanging in her eyes.
Haley looked very aggrieved and pitiful in this state.
Oscar responded, "I'll have Harold arrange it, but given your current condition, you should stay in the hospital and rest for a few more days. I'll have Harold find a few bodyguards, so you won't have to worry about those things."
Haley understood that although Oscar said this, he was still intentionally keeping a distance from her. In fact, from the time the incident happened until now, Oscar hadn't mentioned Pearl at all.
Oscar was still protective of Pearl.
"I'm not worried about your arrangements. But Oscar, you don't understand, some people online are really terrifying. I just couldn't take it, that's why I..."
In the end, Haley couldn't continue and cried bitterly.
Haley still asked the key question, "Oscar, do you have time to come over recently?"
Oscar handed Haley a tissue. "I don't have much time lately, and I promised Pearl to take her to France."
Haley couldn't believe it.
Haley had been insulted by netizens and had even attempted suicide. In everyone's eyes, she was lucky to be alive, yet Oscar still planned to take Pearl abroad.
Wasn't her life important?
Haley lowered her head. "Oscar, I know you're married to Pearl now. But your marriage is a contractual one. I can wait."
Haley thought that after saying this, Oscar wouldn't reject her.
However, Oscar calmly rejected Haley. "Don't wait. You saved me, and I owe you a favor. But we are just friends."
In Oscar's eyes, he now only considered her a friend!
Oscar had previously been involved with Seraphina Everhart, but he wouldn't get involved with Haley. Haley couldn't understand. "Oscar, don't be so cruel to me. I'm not the same as before. Look at me now, I'm being insulted by netizens, and even my acting career is in shambles. I can't even imagine the scene."
Oscar offered a simple consolation. "All those things you're worried about will pass. I have other matters to attend to. Harold will arrange everything I mentioned. If you have any more questions, call me."
With that, Oscar didn't wait for Haley to say anything else. He stood up and walked away, leaving Haley with only his back.
Haley watched Oscar's retreating figure and clenched her fists tightly.
Janetta drove home and saw that Pearl was still asleep. She didn't want to wake her up.
Half an hour later, Pearl woke up.
Seeing that they were still in the car and surrounded by familiar scenery, Pearl was a bit exasperated. "Didn't I ask you to wake me when we arrived?"
"You were sleeping so soundly, I don't want to wake you up"
Just as Janetta finished speaking, she caught sight of someone approaching the car out of the corner of her eye.
It was a man.
The man was wearing a white shirt, black trousers, and gold-rimmed glasses. Most notably, he was holding a bouquet of pink roses.
Janetta's expression turned cold, and she rolled down the window. "Why are you here? Didn't I tell you not to come looking for me anymore?"
