Chapter 959 Going Abroad

Now that Lyra knew the news, even though it came a bit earlier than expected, it wouldn't change anything.

Lyra perked up immediately. "Should I start packing today?"

"Yeah, but first, take a look at this." Jeffery slid a document across the table to her. "It's detailed info about the other company's headquarters."

Lyra finally noticed the file on the table.

She picked it up and flipped through a few pages, muttering to herself, "Pioneer BioTech... never heard of it."

Jeffery explained, "It's because it was founded by two people. One is the chairman, Castillo, but he had a stroke last year, so now his son-in-law runs the show."

"And what about the vice chairman?"

Jeffery's expression remained calm, "The vice chairman hasn't been involved in management for a long time, so you can ignore him."

Lyra didn't delve further.

She wasn't interested in the company's internal complexities; she only cared if their newly developed drug was as miraculous as claimed. Pioneer BioTech had been around for decades, focusing on pharmaceutical research from the start.

Recently, they made a breakthrough—successfully developing an anti-cancer drug!

Cancer remained a formidable challenge in modern medicine. Some benign and early-stage cancers could be cured with aggressive chemotherapy.

But late-stage cancers were almost always terminal.

Lyra had been at this hospital for only a few months and had already encountered over a dozen cancer patients.

This showed how high the incidence of cancer was becoming.

That was why she was so excited when she first heard about this project.

"Go home and get ready. We'll head to the airport tomorrow afternoon," Jeffery said.

Lyra nodded and got up to leave.

As she reached the door, she suddenly remembered something and stopped.

Jeffery thought she had another question, "What's up?"

Lyra hesitated for a moment before saying, "Can I... bring someone else along?"

The next afternoon, Lyra got out of the car, dragging her suitcase.

Jeffery naturally walked over and took her suitcase.

Mia, standing nearby with an excited smile, looked around and saw Jeffery helping Lyra. She tried to hand him her suitcase too, "Um... Mr. Gary, could you take mine too?"

Jeffery walked past her, completely ignoring her.

Seeing Mia's disappointed expression, Lyra offered, "Want me to help you?"

"No need, you're not as strong as me. I'll manage." Mia sighed and resigned herself to dragging her suitcase.

She couldn't understand why Jeffery's attitude towards her had changed since she joined this trip. He wasn't exactly unfriendly, just completely indifferent. At the hospital, he was quite approachable, and he had personally agreed to bring her along. So why was he acting like this now?

Mia was puzzled.

She shared her confusion with Lyra, who was equally perplexed. After a moment of thought, Lyra glanced at Jeffery's distant figure and whispered, "Maybe it's just... men being mysterious. Women can never figure them out."

Mia suddenly understood!

They went through security with their luggage.

Knowing what could and couldn't be brought, they passed through smoothly.

As they boarded, Mia looked at her ticket and gasped, "Business class! I've never flown business before. This must be expensive!"

She felt a rush of excitement.

Turning her head, she saw Lyra chatting with Jeffery.

She couldn't hear their conversation, but Jeffery was looking down at Lyra with a gentle expression, and Lyra was smiling.

It was a picture-perfect moment.

Mia, watching them, saw Lyra sharing a funny story with Jeffery, "During security, I saw someone with a big bottle of fresh milk. The officer asked him to take a sip to prove it was safe."

"He was so nervous that he drank the whole bottle in one go and kept hiccuping, holding up the line."

Jeffery chuckled softly.

As they were about to board, he told Lyra, "Find your seat first. I'll stow the luggage."

Lyra nodded.

Then she remembered Mia and looked around for her.

"You finally remembered me," Mia's voice came from behind, "I thought you two had forgotten I existed."

Lyra saw Mia's resentful expression and felt guilty. "I'll treat you to an in-flight meal to make up for it?"

Mia huffed.

She didn't plan to ask about Lyra and Jeffery's relationship now; it wasn't the right time. She had enough sense to wait until after the flight.

But she was surprised to find that Lyra's seat was right next to Jeffery's.

Mia's seat was several rows away.

Once on the plane, they couldn't stay together.

Lyra glanced back; the plane hadn't taken off yet, and the aisle was crowded. She couldn't see Mia. "Strange, why is she seated so far back?"

Jeffery paused, his eyes flickering briefly.

If Lyra had noticed, she would have seen his guilty look.

But her attention was elsewhere, so she missed it.

When Lyra turned back, Jeffery had composed himself, "Tickets are assigned randomly."

Lyra didn't question it.

Soon, the plane took off.

Lyra had never flown before.

As the plane ascended, she realized she was getting airsick!

She felt awful.

Jeffery, sitting next to her, was the first to notice. Seeing her swaying slightly, he immediately supported her, "Lean back and rest for a bit. Are you airsick? I have some medicine, hold on."

He got up to fetch the medicine.

Lyra, feeling miserable, watched him walk away.

But she didn't feel scared, just reassured. Soon, Jeffery returned with a cup of warm water and some pills. He looked concerned, his face tense.

People instinctively moved aside as he walked by.

He seemed more intimidating than he did at the hospital—unapproachable.

But as he approached Lyra, his expression softened, his voice gentle, "Can you sit up?"
