Chapter 824 The Ungrateful Person

Jeffery's eyes were full of meaning. "Your friend wouldn't happen to be named Egan and be a lawyer, would they?"

Saskia looked away, feeling a bit embarrassed that he had guessed correctly.

Fortunately, Jeffery didn't press the issue and still gave her the information she needed.

He reminded her, "Tell Nathaniel to ease up on his workaholic habits. If he keeps this up, no one will be able to save him."

After seeing Jeffery off, Saskia headed to the hospital room.

The patient was Nyah Moss, sixty-five years old.

At her age, having heart disease was extremely dangerous. A single misstep could lead to a heart attack. The Egan Group took her case very seriously, fearing any mishap. They arranged the best room for her and even covered her medical expenses in advance.

So the man causing trouble really didn't know how good he had it.

"Are you the caregiver arranged by the family? When you get a chance, contact the patient's family and have them come visit. It's their mother, after all. They can't just leave her like this."

"Sorry, I'm not..."

The nurse was stunned for a few seconds.

Saskia explained her purpose for being there.

The nurse smiled awkwardly. "I mistook you for the caregiver arranged by the family."

Saskia noticed her wording and probed subtly. "You said the family doesn't visit often? From what I understand, he seems quite concerned about his mother's condition."

That man had caused several disturbances out of concern, almost injuring someone last time.

"Concerned? If he really cared, he wouldn't have ignored her for so long. He's just ungrateful." The nurse said, clearly irritated by the situation.

Saskia learned some things from the nurse that others didn't know.

It turned out that the man who claimed to be seeking justice for his mother hadn't visited since the day he brought her in.

Nyah was bedridden and slept most of the time.

No one was there to take care of her, so the nurses, out of pity, occasionally helped out.

But the nurses were busy and couldn't do much.

"They said they would hire a caregiver. I thought Ms. Moss would finally get some proper care, but no one has shown up."

"And Ms. Moss?"

The nurse sighed, glancing at the room with a look of pity. "Ms. Moss is old and not very sharp anymore. She keeps talking about her son. It's really sad."

Saskia felt a pang in her heart.

Especially after the nurse left and she went into the room. Just as the nurse had said, Ms. Moss lay in bed, constantly murmuring her son's name.

She had seen the man last time, seething with anger, and thought he cared deeply for his mother. But seeing the reality at the hospital was a shock.

She walked out, her face grim, and ran into Marcus. "Ms. Fuller, are you okay? You look pale."

"I'm fine. I just visited Ms. Moss."

"I also checked with the hospital about her condition." Marcus sighed.

Nyah's situation was dire.

"Ms. Moss is too old to undergo a heart bypass. The surgery is too risky, and the doctors don't want to take the chance." He was so worried he could pull his hair out.

They had been working on this project for days, and now there was no progress.

Now there was such a terrible news like this. If someone died halfway through the project, he couldn't imagine the media frenzy.

Hearing this, Saskia's eyes flickered with concern.

But she pushed her thoughts aside for now and found a caregiver for Nyah.

After arranging everything at the hospital, Saskia turned her attention to the police station.

The man causing trouble in the Flower Coast District had been detained for a month and hadn't been released yet.

Back at the office, she found Nathaniel.

Before he could speak, she shared her thoughts. "I think Kirk Moss is being manipulated by someone."

Kirk Moss was the ringleader, and the others were mostly following his lead.

Nathaniel raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything, clearly thinking the same.

Everything seemed too coincidental—first, someone was dissatisfied, then Nyah fell ill, and the conflict escalated. It all felt orchestrated.

Saskia briefly recounted her visit to the hospital and what she had learned.

Then she returned to the topic of Kirk.

"Check his recent transactions. If there's any unexplained money, we'll have our answer."

"It's already been checked."

Nathaniel frowned.

Saskia guessed from his expression that the news wasn't good.

Sure enough, Nathaniel handed her the documents. "These are all of Kirk's records. We've checked his accounts, and there's been no recent income."

Saskia quickly scanned the documents.

The records were clear. Kirk was unemployed, living off his parents, and his accounts were mostly inactive with no salary deposits.

His expenses, however, were high, mostly gambling losses.

After reading the materials, she was shocked. "Ms. Moss supports him, and he doesn't even visit her when she's sick?"

She immediately understood why the nurse was so angry.

If she were the nurse, she would be angry too.

"It just means the person behind this is very careful." Nathaniel said, his eyes cold.

Saskia paused. "We could try approaching it from another angle."

There were eight families in the Flower Coast District resisting the demolition. It didn't seem like much, but with all their members, it added up to dozens of people.

The tricky part was that they couldn't use force.

"One family wasn't caught that day. I'll go check it out."

"No." Nathaniel refused her suggestion without hesitation.

Saskia frowned, not understanding why he wouldn't let her go. "This is the best option right now. If we keep stalling, who knows when this project will be completed."

She knew Nathaniel wanted to finish the project quickly and leave the Egan Group Building, so she wanted to help him in any way she could.

Nathaniel's brow furrowed, his face tense, and his lips slightly pale.

He had been sick the night before and still came to work today.

Even though he tried to hide it, it was clear he wasn't well.

Saskia immediately softened her tone. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, but you can't go. This isn't up for discussion." Nathaniel said firmly.

He closed his eyes.

All he could think about was if he hadn't arrived in time that day, Saskia would have been surrounded and helpless.

He couldn't let her take that risk again.

Saskia wanted to argue, but Nathaniel used the excuse of her not needing to work today to send her home to rest.

Of course, she wasn't going to just go home.
