Chapter 806 Azalea is Dead

Azalea had no idea what was happening.

She couldn't move a muscle, just lying there. Wasn't she already dead? Why were her eyes open?

It felt like someone had yanked her out just before the explosion.

"You're awake?" A deep, familiar voice.

Azalea's heart pounded when she saw the face in front of her.

It was Ken, the masked man.

Ken didn't seem bothered by Azalea's intense glare. He said, "Don't look at me like that. I saved you. If it weren't for me, you'd be dead. Show some gratitude to your savior."

Azalea couldn't speak, but her eyes shot daggers at him.

Ken patted her lightly. "Get well soon. I still need you."

Azalea's pupils trembled. What did Ken want from her?

Meanwhile, Saskia was sick, burning up with fever, calling out Azalea's name in her sleep.

Nathaniel, worried sick, had called Quincy.

"I'm not your personal doctor. If she's sick, take her to the hospital," Quincy grumbled, but he came anyway.

After Quincy examined Saskia, Nathaniel frowned and asked, "How is she? She's been running a fever since last night. We gave her some medicine, but she's not improving."

Nathaniel's worry was evident. He was so anxious that he couldn't even maintain his usual stoic demeanor.

He had wanted to take Saskia to the hospital, but she refused.

So, he had no choice but to call Quincy.

Nathaniel couldn't stand seeing Saskia so weak and fragile.

Quincy finished his examination and pondered for a while. He replied, "Her condition is due to emotional stress. She seems mentally exhausted."

Nathaniel's expression grew somber in response to Quincy's question.

He thought about Saskia's behavior at the funeral.

He said, "That makes sense. Her sister's death hit her hard. It's affected her mentally."

Nathaniel's brow furrowed. "Will she get better?" he asked.

"Yes," Quincy replied, pausing before adding, "But it will take time. Try to keep her spirits up during this period."

The only person Nathaniel could think of who might lift Saskia's spirits was Benjamin.

He glanced at Saskia, her cheeks flushed with fever, and asked Quincy to step outside.

Once outside, Nathaniel asked quietly, "How's Benjamin's surgery schedule?"

Quincy replied, "It's going well. The heart transplant surgery is almost ready to be scheduled, but with Saskia in this condition..."

Nathaniel chimed in, "I'll make sure she gets better."

Benjamin's surgery was something Saskia had to be present for—not just for herself but to support Benjamin. He needed parents by his side.

Saskia had to pull herself together quickly.

Quincy had come to do the check-up and gave Saskia an injection before leaving.

Nathaniel was left to take care of her.

A maid offered to help. "Mr. Egan, you haven't rested since yesterday. Let me take over."

Nathaniel pressed his long fingers to his forehead and shook his head. "No, I'll do it myself."

The maid said, "But Mrs. Egan will worry if she finds out."

Nathaniel's eyes narrowed, his gaze sharp and intimidating. "Are you my servant or my mother's?"

The maid lowered her head, not daring to speak further.

Then Nathaniel dismissed her.He wasn't shocked that Jade had someone keeping tabs on him. She never fully trusted him.

Normally, Nathaniel would have replaced the maid. He hated having spies around. But with Saskia sick, he didn't have the energy to deal with it.

"Saskia, you need to get better. You haven't given me an answer yet." Nathaniel held Saskia's hand, feeling her feverish warmth against his face.

Saskia woke up in the middle of the night.

This time, her headache had lessened. She opened her eyes, still groggy, and looked around.

She immediately saw Nathaniel by the bed.

He was sitting there, his clothes unchanged, without even a blanket. His usually pristine shirt was wrinkled.

Saskia stared for a moment, her hand moving before her mind caught up.

She touched Nathaniel's chiseled face.

Nathaniel's eyelashes fluttered. As Saskia tried to pull her hand back, he grabbed it.

"Touching me as soon as you wake up? Feeling better?" Nathaniel's voice was hoarse, betraying his exhaustion.

Saskia had been sick for a day and a night, and Nathaniel had taken care of her the whole time. He barely drank any water.

Only someone with Nathaniel's stamina could manage that.

Saskia felt embarrassed. "Let go. I just didn't want you to catch a cold and blame me."

Both fell silent.

They had had many disagreements in the past.

Nathaniel had spoken hurtful words that had left lasting scars on Saskia.

"Sorry, I was wrong before. I didn't trust you." Nathaniel apologized. It was the only thing he could do.

Saskia's expression softened. "It's okay. It's all in the past. I don't care anymore."

She only felt a lingering discomfort from back then.

As for everything else, it was gone. Like she said, she was used to being alone.

"How's Benjamin?" she asked.

Nathaniel replied, "He's fine. You just got over your fever. Wait until morning to see him."

Saskia lay back down. "You're right. Benjamin should be resting now. I'll see him at noon and bring him his favorite sandwich."

Nathaniel reached out.

Seeing his movement, Saskia flinched. "What are you doing?"

Nathaniel paused, a hint of bitterness in his smile. "I just wanted to check if your fever's really gone."

He hadn't expected Saskia to react so strongly. Did she really reject him that much?

"Saskia, don't push me away. I wasn't going to do anything." Nathaniel explained, helpless.

Saskia knew she had overreacted, but she didn't think she was entirely wrong. She said, "Given our current relationship, it's better to keep some distance. To me, you're still Azalea's."

Nathaniel said, "She's dead. Are you still not going to accept me because of her?"

Nathaniel's first thought was that Saskia's fever had broken. His second was that it was absurd.

He didn't understand. If it had been about Benjamin before, he could accept that. He hadn't been a good father.

But Azalea?

It seemed unfair. She was gone. It was over, wasn't it?

Nathaniel continued, "Azalea and I ended a long time ago. Besides, she loved George, not Nathaniel. She loved the person I pretended to be."

Saskia replied, "But to me, you're still hers."
