Chapter 213 You Will Regret It
Suddenly, Pearl slapped Oscar.
Oscar didn't dodge; he took the slap straight on.
A bright red mark appeared on his face.
He tilted his head, then looked up and stared coldly at Pearl.
Pearl was shocked, staring at her hand. She'd slapped him so hard her hand hurt.
Her reaction surprised even herself.
They'd been together for seven years, and no matter how many fights they had, she'd never hit him.
Not just her, but Oscar had probably never been hit by anyone in his life.
"Pearl," Oscar growled her name.
Pearl pulled back her nearly numb hand and said, "I didn't mean to. If you hadn't done this, I wouldn't have hit you."
Oscar was almost driven mad by her. Now she had the nerve to leave him and even hit him. His clenched fists made a cracking sound.
Seeing his angry demeanor, Pearl was a bit scared, afraid he might hit her back.
But Oscar just stared at her coldly. "You could do anything for this man!"
Pearl wouldn't tell him the truth about the child.
She didn't want to be with him, and the decision about the child was hers alone.
Although this approach was a bit selfish, it was better than Oscar getting involved with Haley. It was better to cut off all ties.
If Oscar knew, he might force her to abort the child, or he might decide to keep it, but neither choice was what Pearl wanted.
Pearl was resolute in her desire to have no further connection with Oscar. She believed that the best course of action was for the child to be solely her responsibility.
Pearl couldn't afford to be soft-hearted.
Even if Oscar knew about the child, he might want to stay today, but he might want a divorce once the child was born, depriving her of custody.
She wouldn't allow that to happen.
She couldn't believe that Oscar would live with her.
She had compromised too much in the past, but this time, she wouldn't back down.
Pearl calmed down, looked him in the eyes, and said frankly, "You're right. For him, I'll do anything."
Oscar was furious, and her words only made him more jealous.
For her lover, she was willing to do anything, even willing to have the child.
His cold eyes looked at her belly, and he said cruelly, "What if I make you abort this child?"
Pearl took several steps back, becoming vigilant, and protected her belly tightly, telling him, "Then you might as well kill me along with the child!"
Upon hearing this, Oscar gritted his teeth in anger but was helpless.
She was stubborn and still wanted to have the child. How could he allow her to do that? "I won't let you have this child. You have to abort it!"
"No!"
"You have no choice!" Oscar grabbed her hand, saying coldly, "I won't allow you to keep this child!"
Pearl was completely panicked.
Why did he still want to control her? Why did he want to take away the last thing she had?
Pearl wouldn't allow him to do that. Her eyes reddened with urgency as she picked up a stone and aimed it at her head. "Oscar, if you make me abort my child, I'll smash my head in!"
Oscar looked at Pearl. She held a brick in her hand, her eyes resolute. If he forced her to abort the child, she would kill herself first.
Pearl was indeed ruthless.
This was both a warning and a threat. The child in her belly was more important than her life.
Even without the brick, as long as the child was gone, she wouldn't want to live!
She was betting her life on this.
Oscar grabbed her hand tightly, almost breaking it.
At this moment, he despised her deeply for her obstinacy and stubbornness, just like the day she left without hesitation, only thinking about how to disappear from his life.
He even resorted to drugging her!
He had one demand: abort the child, and she still refused!
She wanted to give birth to another man's child.
How dare she!
How dare she say such things to him!
Oscar finally let go of her hand, no longer forcing her, but his gaze was cold, filled with disappointment. "Pearl, you will regret it!"
He said it with certainty.
After speaking, he ignored Pearl's despondent look.
Tears welled up in her eyes, one drop sliding down her cheek, but she remained stubborn, refusing to yield in front of him.
With those decisive words, he left, ignoring Pearl's desolate gaze.
Pearl slowly squatted down, looking at her reddened hand, tightly clenched, her eyes downcast, filled with indescribable sorrow.
She was utterly alone, but this loneliness was not something she had sought from the beginning.
Only after years of disappointment did she think it was better to be alone, that giving up on this marriage was a good thing.
She had thought her days were better now, light and free, no longer pining for unattainable love, but Oscar had reappeared in her life.
He brought her back to those desperate days. She definitely no longer wanted to live such a complicated life.
Her choice was right.
She could not afford to regret it.
Pearl wiped away the tears that should not have fallen, stood up, and mustered a smile.
Her life would not be worse, only better.
She hoped Oscar would understand that they were not suitable for each other and would not come looking for her again!
She also believed that Oscar would not come looking for her again after this.
After all, men still needed their pride.
They care about their reputation.
Even if he had been unwilling before, knowing she was carrying another man's child, he would not want her anymore.
Pearl straightened her clothes and walked towards home.
She was tired and just wanted a good night's sleep.
Oscar was sitting in the car, his handsome face cold as ice, his eyes staring ahead like sharp swords.
He was furious, and his fist slammed into the car window.
The thud made the car shake slightly.
But the window didn't break; instead, his hand instantly bruised.
"Mr. Brown." The driver had been afraid to speak, but at this moment, he was concerned for Oscar's safety.
Oscar's eyes were clouded with anger, and he had a murderous look. He coldly ordered, "Find him for me, leave no stone unturned to find that person!"
Betrayed by Pearl, who protected him with her life.
Oscar was determined to kill this man!
Pearl arrived at the TV station.
Pearl always arrived at work early, but today, the editor-in-chief was even earlier, sitting at her desk reading her article.
The editor-in-chief, Harper, was a woman in her forties with short hair and a tall, slender figure—she was dressed fashionably.
"Harper."
Harper looked up at Pearl and smiled kindly. "Pearl, you've been here for several days now."
"Yes," Pearl replied. "It's been a week."
Harper placed Pearl's article on the desk and said, "You've left your previous comfort zone, but I think this is also your comfort zone. Your writing is good; the Instagram post you just published has already exceeded ten thousand views!"
Pearl wasn't sure if this was a compliment or not, but since she had previously worked as a secretary, writing wasn't difficult for her. She politely said, "Thank you for your appreciation, Harper."
Harper, however, said, "Why not leave your comfort zone and try something else?"
Harper handed her a document.
Pearl was not afraid of challenges. She took the document, opened it, and her expression changed.
