Chapter 594 Worried About You and the Child
Oscar didn't wait for Claire to say a word. He just called up the hospital director and told him to fire her on the spot.
Claire freaked out and grabbed onto Oscar's legs, pleading, "Mr. Brown, I messed up. Please, give me another shot. My parents went above and beyond to help me get this job. I can't let them down."
"If you knew how hard they worked, you shouldn't have badmouthed me." Pearl wasn't having any of it and told the hospital director, "Sir, if you don't fire her, I'll take this higher."
Given to Oscar's clout, the hospital director quickly gave Claire the boot.
Claire kicked up a fuss, crying so loud it echoed through the whole floor.
The hospital director apologized to both of them and got the head nurse to cover Claire's duties right away.
Oscar was pleased by hospital director's decision and offered to fund a renovation for the inpatient department, which made the hospital director over the moon.
After taking her meds, Pearl dozed off but had a vague feeling someone came in. Thinking it was Oscar, she didn't bother.
When she noticed the door closing quietly, she snapped awake. "It's you?"
Pearl opened her eyes to see Claire standing by the bed, holding a syringe and looking pretty scary.
"What are you up to?" Pearl grabbed her pillow, eyeing Claire.
Claire sneered, "What am I up to? I lost my job, so I'm here to settle the score."
With that, she lunged at Pearl. Pearl blocked her with the pillow and jumped out of bed, making a dash for the door.
Claire was quick, grabbing the syringe and charging at her. Pearl turned and slammed Claire's hand against the wall.
The syringe hit the floor, and Claire, gritting her teeth, yelled, "I'm gonna kill you."
Worried about hurting the baby, Pearl didn't want to make any big moves. She shoved Claire away and tried to leave, but Claire grabbed her foot.
"You really think I can't do anything to you?" Pearl fumed.
She thought the beef between them wasn't serious enough for Claire to go this far, but Claire wasn't letting it go.
Claire held onto her foot, trying to trip her up.
Pearl stopped holding back and kicked her away.
Claire screamed, and Pearl bolted out of the room.
Claire chased her, grabbing a pair of pliers from the nurse's station as she ran by.
Pearl didn't dare run too fast and got caught from behind, with Claire locking her neck.
Claire's voice was cold as she whispered, "Move an inch, and I'll make sure the blade finds you. Your baby won't survive the bleed-out from your carotid artery."Pearl froze, letting Claire hold her neck, trying to talk her down. "What do you want? Maybe I can help you out."
"Should've said that earlier. But now, I don't need anything. You cost me my job, so I'll make your husband lose you and the baby." Claire laughed like a maniac.
The patients and nurses around them were too scared to make a peep, worried Claire would hurt Pearl.
Pearl said, "Even if I die, you won't get away with it."
"Fine by me. We'll go down together. Every time Mr. Brown thinks of you, he'll remember me. Not bad." Claire had totally lost it.
Pearl tried to stay calm, looking for a way out.
From a distance, Oscar saw what was happening and rushed over.
Seeing it was Pearl, he frowned. "Let her go, and I'll agree to your demands."
"Alright, divorce her and marry me. Then give me seventy grand." Claire threatened, "If you don't agree, I'll kill her and then myself."
Pearl blinked at Oscar, signaling him not to rush into a decision.
Oscar got the hint and said, "I'll call my lawyer now. Just put down the pliers first."
"No way!" Claire got more agitated, and the pliers nicked Pearl's neck, causing blood to seep out. The people around gasped.
"Then I can't agree to your demands. Do whatever you want. I'm calling the police now." Oscar pulled out his phone, pretending to call the cops while keeping a close eye on Claire.
If she made any sudden moves, he would be ready to jump in.
Claire was at a loss, regretting not finishing Pearl off the moment she walked in.
The hospital director showed up, panicking at the scene. "Claire, what are you doing? Let her go."
He moved closer, but Claire yanked Pearl back.
Whether on purpose or not, they ended up near the window.
Pearl whispered, "You can still stop now. Once the police get here, it'll be too late to regret."
"Yeah, think about your parents," the hospital director tried to reason with her.
Oscar inched closer, but Claire noticed just as he was about to grab her.
Claire screamed, "Come any closer, and I'll really stab her."
She pointed at Oscar. "Mr. Brown, I want you to remember me. I truly like you. Please don't forget me."
With that, she tried to drag Pearl towards the window, but Pearl wasn't having it.
She had thought about giving Claire a chance, but now, no way. Pearl shoved her away and ran towards Oscar.
Claire hit the wall and was quickly restrained by two patients' family members. The police arrived and took her away.
After that mess, Kittie brought meals three times a day, and Oscar stayed by Pearl's side without leaving.
With no more drama, Pearl's condition got better, and she was discharged a week later.
While handling the paperwork, Kittie held Pearl's hand, not wanting to let go.
Pearl got it and patted her hand. "Mom, if you miss me, just call, and I'll have someone pick you up."
"Seeing you always in trouble, I'm worried about you and the baby." Kittie wiped her tears.
Oscar cleared his throat and said to Kittie and Evans, "The paperwork's done. Let's head downstairs. There's not much at home. Why don't you stay with us for a few days?"
"Nah, we have a lot to take care of at home." Evans didn't want to impose and thought it would be better to grow more delicious food for Pearl post-baby.
At the hospital entrance, they said their goodbyes, and Pearl felt a twinge of sadness watching her parents leave.
Oscar hugged her and whispered, "When you're feeling better, we'll go back and stay for a while."
"Alright." Pearl understood but still felt sad.
Back home, RavenWing had whipped up a meal with all of Pearl's favorite dishes.
During dinner, Harold called, and Oscar stepped aside to take it.
Seeing his serious expression, RavenWing frowned. "He's too busy. Pearl, why don't you come back with me? That way, he can focus on work, and you won't get hurt by any random people."
Pearl replied, "I don't want to be separated from him. We've been apart for five years. I don't want any regrets."
Before, it was out of necessity. Now, if she had a choice, she'd definitely choose to be with Oscar.
Even though trouble kept finding them, they always managed to get through it.
RavenWing sighed, "I'm not saying you won't see him. He can visit you when he's free. Think about it. Wouldn't it be safer with me than here?"
