Chapter 161 You Still Have Feelings for Her
After Aurora finished speaking, she turned her back .
Unable to reach the person in charge of the Johnson Group, Pearl reported to Oscar , "They requested your presence, complaining that we change representatives too frequently."
Pearl didn't waste any words.
If Oscar wanted to keep this partnership, he would have to go in person. If not, he could ignore it.
And Pearl could take this opportunity to find a lawyer.
Unexpectedly, Oscar ordered, "Come back."
His tone was low yet serious.
"Okay."
Pearl didn't say much.
When Pearl returned to Oscar, he was no longer at his computer. He stood by the large floor-to-ceiling window, holding a cigarette in his right hand.
Pearl maintained a businesslike attitude. "Is there anything else you need me to do?"
Oscar exhaled a puff of smoke.
Through the smoke, Oscar's face was somewhat obscured.
But his voice was clear and cold. "Why did they make such a request as soon as you arrived?"
This tone clearly showed Oscar's suspicion.
Pearl replied coldly, "If you think I did it on purpose, you can ask them yourself."
Pearl showed no emotion on the surface.
But inside, she felt very hurt.
After working with Oscar for so many years, even if there were no feelings involved, was their daily cooperation so fragile?
Oscar didn't respond, but the smoke around him thickened.
Pearl didn't want to stay in such an environment any longer.
She knew smoke bad for health, especially since she was pregnant!
"Mr. Brown, if there's nothing else, I'll leave first." Pearl's intention to leave was clear.
And Pearl really did turn to leave.
Oscar called out to Pearl. "All the people you hire must be approved by me."
"Okay."
Pearl had no objections.
But Pearl had shown Oscar many resumes, and he wasn't satisfied with any of them.
Pearl questioned, "You think I'm sabotaging your cooperation, but what about you?"
Oscar had previously said that if Pearl wanted to leave, she had to find a suitable replacement. It was hard enough to find Sarah, and Oscar made her leave.
Now, with so many resumes and none being satisfactory, Oscar was clearly making things difficult for Pearl, not letting her leave.
These candidates were all top graduates from prestigious schools!
Oscar coldly said, "They are either very ugly or too stunning. This is a company, not a beauty pageant."
These candidates had great appearances, yet Oscar called them ugly!
The good-looking ones were also dismissed because he thought this wasn't a beauty pageant!
Pearl felt Oscar was doing this on purpose!
Pearl suggested, "I haven't been with you as long as Harold has. Why don't you let Harold hire someone for you?"
Oscar was so hard to please, Pearl didn't want to bother anymore.
Oscar threw away his cigarette and looked at her. "Do you want Harold to handle the follow-up things for you?"
Pearl didn't want to argue with Oscar. "No, I'll go and recruit again now. I'll check the job market."
Oscar didn't respond.
To Pearl, Oscar's silence meant he agreed with her.
Pearl didn't go to any job market; she went to a law firm.
Pearl consulted with a top lawyer who happened to be available. In the office, she had a face-to-face consultation. "My husband and I have a contractual marriage. We went to the court todaybut was told that we have to wait four months, which istoo long for me; I want to file a lawsuit."
A man dressed in professional attire sat at his desk and asked Pearl, "Ma'am, as you mentioned, you've already made an appointment at the court. You just need to wait patiently. If your husband doesn't want to divorce, we can proceed according to the process."
Pearl's expression was serious. "I want it done as quickly as possible."
"How much would it cost to expedite the divorce?" Pearl was anxious.
Four months was too long for Pearl to wait.
The man observed Pearl's reaction carefully. "Are you in such a hurry to get divorced because your husband doesn't want to, or because you are with someone else?"
Pearl denied it. "I didn'tcheat. It's a contractual marriage. He has a lover. Our marriage is not public, and I'm tired of this relationship without love. We have no property to divide, no children; I just coudln't wait to start a new life."
The fact that the marriage was not public caught the man's attention.
Only wealthy families would choose to keep a marriage private.
Given this, he could make a fortune.
The man nodded to Pearl. "Please go with my assistant to draft a divorce petition."
"Okay."
Pearl nodded.
In less than a few minutes, Pearl returned with the petition. "Lawyer Egan."
Pearl had heard the assistant mention his name.
The man's last name was Egan.
Lawyer Egan took the divorce petition from Pearl and, after reading it, was very surprised.
The defendant was Oscar.
He looked at it carefully. That's right, it was indeed Oscar and Pearl. The marriage contract Pearl mentioned was one he had drafted for Oscar!
Seeing that he remained silent, Pearl frowned and asked, "Is there a problem with my petition?"
"No problem. You can go back now; I'll notify you when the court date is set."
The man could only tell Pearl this.
Pearl nodded. "Thank you, Lawyer Egan."
After Pearl left, the man called Oscar.
Just when the man thought Oscar wouldn't answer, Oscar's cold voice came through the phone. "What do you want?"
Oscar had a feeling it wasn't good news.
Because Oscar hadn't been in touch with Nathaniel Egan for a long time.
Especially given Nathaniel's status.
Nathaniel laughed. "Do you know who I saw?"
When Nathaniel said this, Oscar immediately realized: "Pearl went to see you."
"And she drafted a divorce petition. I don't get it; Pearl looks decent, and after three years of marriage, you two haven't developed any feelings? This doesn't match any TV show or novel!" Nathaniel's teasing grew more pointed.
Oscar's face turned cold. "Cut the crap. Explain the situation to your friends."
Nathaniel still laughed. "Even if no one in Willow Creek takes your divorce case, that doesn't mean people from their places won't. It seems like you still have feelings for her!"
"Get lost!"
Oscar snorted.
After hanging up on Nathaniel, Oscar had Harold track Pearl's location and then set off directly to where Pearl was.
