Chapter 167 Delay

Pearl washed her face with a lot of facial cleanser.

She even used hand sanitizer and body wash.

The air was filled with a faint scent of tulips.

It was Pearl's favorite perfume.

She did so to disguise the lingering smell of Oscar, the strong scent of smoke or alcohol and blood.

Pearl's hand paused, and she was stunned.

But Pearl quickly explained, "You're overthinking. You know the reason for our divorce."

It was time for divorce.

And he never truly wanted her to stay.

Pearl had no intention to stay and witness the happy life of Oscar and Haley.

Oscar sneered, knowing that she was going back to Magee, to be with Adrian.

When Oscar thought of this, he recalled the scene of Pearl and Adrian sitting by the flower bed today, chatting and laughing.

Pearl was so calm by then.

But she didn't mention it to Oscar after she got back.

At this moment, Oscar could no longer control his emotions. He stepped forward and forcefully grabbed Pearl by the neck. "Pearl, I've changed my mind. I won't go to the Civil Affairs Bureau with you anymore."

"You!" Pearl didn't expect that Oscar, who had clearly agreed, would now break his promise.

It was only at this moment that Pearl understood why there was a separation period.

Pearl took a deep breath. "It's fine if you don't want a divorce. Since you mentioned reciprocity, then tonight I want to..."

Pearl told herself not to argue with Oscar about this.

But before Pearl could finish her sentence, she was silenced by Oscar's kiss.

He held her waist with one hand, forcing her backward with large strides.

Within seconds, Pearl was pushed to the edge of the bed by Oscar.

Oscar wanted more than just this.

He pressed Pearl beneath him.

When Pearl tried to resist, he raised her hands high above her head.

Oscar terrified Pearl by doing this. "Oscar, calm down! I beg you, don't do this!"

The doctor had explained that in the first three months, she needed to supplement with folic acid and calcium.

And she couldn't have sex.

What if Oscar's actions hurt the baby?

Oscar didn't stop his actions. When he buried himself deep inside Pearl, she didn't dare to move.

Oscar tasted the tears at the corner of her eyes.

They were bitter.

At this moment, Oscar sobered up.

He pushed Pearl away.

Pearl lay beside him, trembling all over.

The moment Oscar lay down,  he felt dizzy, as if he had fallen onto cotton.

Oscar had drunk a lot of alcohol, and at this moment, the effects of the alcohol were kicking in. In his daze, he seemed to see a sky full of flames.

"Haley!"

When Oscar shouted this name, Pearl felt a pang of pain in her heart.

In Oscar's heart, he was always thinking of Haley.

It was precisely because of this that Oscar let go of Pearl.

How ridiculous!

The only time Oscar and Pearl had sex, Pearl became a substitute for Haley.

This time, Oscar instead sobered up and restrained himself.

Early in the morning, Pearl went to the law firm.

Pearl met with Nathaniel. "Lawyer Egan, I want my divorce case to proceed as quickly as possible."

"Mrs. Harris, no one in Willow Creek is willing to take your case right now. But since I've already taken your divorce case, I will naturally see it through to the end. However, I'm very busy in the coming days. After I handle a few cases on my plate, I need to make a trip to Elysium Haven. I won't be able to help you with your divorce case for another two and a half months."

Nathaniel's words were slow and clear.

Pearl was completely stunned.

Two and a half months, by then Pearl would be four months pregnant, and it would be noticeable.

At that time, Oscar would be even less likely to let her go.

However, Pearl quickly realized something.

Pearl sneered, "Should I call you Oscar's friend?"

Nathaniel's eyes darkened slightly, but he quickly smiled. "You are very smart."

Although Nathaniel appeared calm on the surface, he was very admired Pearl.

Pearl recognized him at a glance. "Since you won't handle my divorce case, goodbye."

With that, Pearl turned and left.

After she left, Nathaniel called Oscar.

Oscar was still sleeping.

He had drunk too much, and now being woken up, his whole body ached.

Hearing Oscar's hoarse voice, Nathaniel sneered. "Are you still sleeping? Your wife came to see me early in the morning and recognized who I was. I think you should pay more attention to it!"

The weariness in Oscar's eyes disappeared instantly, replaced by a chilling expression.

He didn't say anything and directly hung up on Nathaniel.

Then, Oscar called Pearl.

At this moment, Pearl was looking for a lawyer.

She encountered trouble as soon as she entered a law firm.

Seeing Oscar's call now, she became even more worried.

But she couldn't ignore it.

Oscar's cold voice came through the phone, "Pearl, where are you?"

"I'm out shopping. Do you need something? I want to take a day off today."

Pearl gripped her phone tightly.

Oscar hadn't woken up when she left.

She wasn't panicking about looking for a lawyer.

"Did you finish what I told you yesterday?"

Oscar asked her coldly.

Pearl pressed her lips together, "I'll head to the office now."

"Okay."

Pearl nodded.

However, she didn't go to the Brown Group immediately.

Oscar was still at home; he wouldn't be there so early.

After hanging up, Oscar got up and went to the dressing room.

At this moment, his phone rang again.

Thinking it was Pearl, Oscar's tone turned cold. "I don't want to repeat it. Don't test my patience."

Haley was stunned.

Oscar's tone was so cold; was he really talking to Haley?

"Oscar."

Haley's voice was hoarse.

Oscar then realized it was Haley calling him.

He immediately pressed his lips together and changed his tone. "What's going on?"

Although Oscar's tone was much softer, Haley still sensed the distance in his words.

Haley's voice choked. "I want to see you. There's something I want to tell you in person."

"I'll come by in the afternoon."

"I'll wait for you."

Determination flashed in Haley's eyes.

When Oscar arrived at the Brown Group, the new hire had already arrived.

Pearl brought the person to him. "Mr. Brown, this is Lily Mitchell."

Oscar looked up, his gaze falling on Lily.

She had long curly hair and was very thin.

"You go to assist the Johnson Group's representative."

Oscar said this while looking at Lily.

Lily nodded.

At this moment, Pearl spoke up, "Alright, Mr. Brown, I'll make sure Lily handles this matter."

Then, Pearl personally took Lily to the hotel where the Johnson Group's representative was staying, intending for Lily to take charge.

Unexpectedly, the Johnson Group's representative, Aurora, directly stopped Pearl. "Pearl, I didn't know it was you last time. I'm really sorry."
