Chapter 311 Don't Say You're Dirty

For Haley, there was only one way to go.

Pearl had no idea how she survived that night; it felt endless and torturous.

She stayed up all night on the couch.

By the time she was fully awake, it was already morning.

She was exhausted.

Pearl dragged herself to the bathroom to wash her face. When she looked in the mirror, she was shocked, thinking it was a ghost.

Her eyes were bloodshot, her face pale and haggard, like she was seriously ill.

She touched her face, unable to believe how much she had changed. 'Was I really this devastated by heartbreak? Would I destory myself with Oscar gone?'

The answer was no.

Hadn't she already thought about ending things and divorcing him?

He just brought it up first.

She still had to live well, and she was determined to live a hundred times better than before.

Pearl made up her mind; one night of sadness was enough. The rest of her days had to be brilliant.

She washed her face vigorously, trying to put herself together.

After washing, she suddenly lifted her head too quickly, causing her vision to go black, and she fainted.

She didn't even feel it; she just collapsed on the floor.

She wanted to get up but had no strength left.

When she woke up again, Pearl felt utterly drained, like she had lost half her life.

She was surprised at how much energy she had wasted on Oscar.

Her eyes wandered around the room and she saw Jeffery standing by her side, looking concerned.

This surprised her even more. "Jeffery, what are you doing here?"

Jeffery had never been to her house before; why was he here now?

"I came to check on you," Jeffery said gently. "You were unconscious for half a day before waking up. Do you feel any other discomfort?"

He was worried about her.

Pearl tried to move her hand to get up.

Jeffery immediately helped her and placed a pillow behind her back.

"You haven't answered my question," Pearl asked hoarsely.

Jeffery handed her a glass of warm water. "I know where you live. I hadn't seen you in a while and thought something might have happened. I was worried, so I came over. I didn't expect to find you fainted. Luckily, I was able to help you in time. You're fine now."

"Do you know me that well, even where I live?" Pearl was still skeptical, wondering if it was all just a coincidence.

He just happened to be a doctor and just happened to be there to save her.

And she felt more like a patient.

"Do I have some kind of illness?" Recently, her body had been very weak, and she often felt sleepy. "It's not something terminal, is it?"

If that were the case, her life would be too unfortunate.

Jeffery's eyes flickered, and he quickly said, "What nonsense are you talking about? You're very healthy."

"I'm very healthy." Pearl laughed. "Someone told me that a few days ago, but I can feel that something is wrong."

Pearl's condition had been kept hidden from her.

"Don't say such things." Jeffery looked at her. "It's because you're pregnant. The baby is absorbing your nutrients, which is why you're tired. Don't overthink it."

He reached out to touch Pearl's head but stopped himself, realizing it wasn't appropriate.

At that moment, Jeffery became someone Pearl could confide in. "You really care about me. Even if you don't say it, I know we had some connection before, but I can't remember. I feel like I've lost a big part of my memory, and you're in it, right? Jeffery, did I risk my life for you before? Is that why you're so good to me?"

Her life used to be considered a lucky one. She had a loving family and many people who cared about her, but her love life was a mess.

Maybe her life was too stable, and God had to shake things up, so she experienced heartbreak.

Her words made Jeffery laugh.

He sat beside her, watching over her, his blue eyes exceptionally gentle.

"Of course not, but you gave me a new life," Jeffery said. "You'll understand when you remember."

Despite Jeffery's complicated past, he had saved her many times, and she trusted he wouldn't harm her.

Now, the only person who could stay by her side was Jeffery.

She talked to Jeffery for a while. "Do you have any friends?"

"I don't."

Pearl asked, "None of you have friends?"

Jeffery replied, "I don't need them."

"What about your parents?"

"I don't know who they are."

"That must be so lonely, having no friends or family. Life must be very dull." Pearl suddenly felt sorry for him. 'God hadn't fully blessed him. God gave him a beautiful face, the best medical skills, and endless loneliness. He had no one to share his joy with.'

Jeffery's eyes dimmed.

If Pearl hadn't brought it up, he might not have realized how lonely he was in this world.

He didn't have time to think about it.

He was always thinking about how to survive, with no time to consider normal emotional needs.

"I'm doing fine now," Jeffery said lightly.

Pearl lowered her head and said, "It's okay. From now on, I'll be your friend. You can tell me anything that makes you sad or happy. You can share it with me, and I'll be willing to listen."

She had opened her heart to Jeffery.

After all, people come and go, and meeting someone is a kind of fate. She should cherish the present.

Jeffery's eyes lit up, and a smile spread across his lips. He nodded. "Okay, thank you. Thank you for accepting me."

Pearl looked at his pale, long, slender, and very beautiful hands.

She remembered touching them before; they were cold.

She wanted to touch them again but stopped mid-air and politely asked, "Can I hold your hand?"

Jeffery's face changed, and he instinctively pulled back his hand. He didn't want her to touch him.

Pearl said, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you."

"It's not that," Jeffery said. "I just don't want to dirty you."

This wasn't the first time Jeffery had said this.

It was hard to imagine someone as clean as Jeffery would call himself dirty.

Pearl didn't know him well, and she wanted to understand him.

Perhaps it was Pearl's persistence; she insisted on holding his hand. His hand was still cold, and when she touched it, it trembled slightly.

His hand was smooth, without calluses, even more delicate than a woman's.

Pearl smiled. "Your hands are quite clean. They are very beautiful. Don't say you're dirty anymore."
