Chapter 331 Making a Living
'So, does this mean things are rocky between him and Pearl? No wonder he came back drenched. Once a relationship has a crack, it's hard to fix.' Haley felt a bit of satisfaction.
She looked at Oscar and said, "Oscar, I'll always need you. I'll never leave you, trust me. I'm the one who loves you the most. If Pearl really loved you, she wouldn't treat you like this!"
She snuggled into Oscar's arms, feeling joy.
Knowing she was poisoned, Pearl went to the hospital for a check-up.
She wanted to know how long she had left.
Could she make it until the baby was born?
But the doctor said she was fine.
'Could the hospital really not detect the poison?' Pearl was deep in thought, facing more challenges. 'What if I die before the baby is born? What if I die after?'
She needed to plan for the baby's future.
She was scared of dying, but the thought of being harmed made her determined to live.
Death didn't seem so scary after all.
She was just worried about the baby being motherless.
She stroked her belly, making a tough decision.
'Should I abort the baby? Would it be too cruel to let the baby live a hard life? If the baby grows up, would he hate me for giving birth but not being there?' Tears filled Pearl's eyes, and her heart ached.
She was torn.
She had never struggled like this before.
Pearl went to the operating room.
The cold, lifeless place gave her chills.
Suddenly, her belly moved.
That movement snapped Pearl back to reality. How could she end this life?
She backed out in fear and fled the operating room.
She sat outside, panting, and stroked her belly, feeling insecure.
"Baby, I'm sorry," Pearl said with red eyes. "Mommy loves you. I will give birth to you and make sure you have a happy life, I promise!"
These words seemed to calm the baby.
It was the first time Pearl felt the baby move, and she was happy, though mixed with sadness.
She didn't know if the baby was healthy, or if the poison would affect the baby.
Pearl didn't have much time to dwell on these issues; she still needed to work hard.
She was alone, and her maternal instinct was strong. She had to earn a lot of money while she was alive to ensure the baby's safety.
In the days that followed, Pearl threw herself into work.
Her belly grew bigger day by day.
The filming of "Glory" was halfway through.
Although Pearl was an investor, she felt the same passion as Penelope.
She went to the set every day, watched the scenes, learned, and put in a lot of effort.
Gradually, she became more proficient.
Recently, Penelope sprained her foot on set, tearing a ligament, and had to stay in the hospital for several days.
The crew needed to keep shooting. They couldn't afford waiting for Penelope's recovery or delaying the filming.
In desperation, Pearl took over Penelope's role.
"Alright, take a break!" Pearl said.
Eileen had just finished a scene with Brandon.
Brandon was a newcomer, 6'2", had done a few web series, and was super handsome with a sunny smile and dimples.
The script had the male and female leads in an age-gap relationship.
He had great chemistry with Eileen.
"Pearl."
Brandon came out shirtless. He worked out regularly and had a great physique. With his height and looks, if this film took off, he'd be a star.
After every scene, he politely bowed to the crew, greeted them, and then went to Pearl to review the footage.
"Did I miss the mark in this scene?" He was talking about a pool scene with Eileen.
Brandon's performance was a bit green.
Pearl said, "No, the male lead is younger, experiencing love for the first time. This performance is spot on."
"That's good." Brandon took his scenes seriously.
Eileen, in a swimsuit, dried off with a towel and joined them to watch the footage.
"No problem," she said, patting Brandon on the shoulder. "Don't worry."
"Thanks, Eileen," Brandon said with a smile.
"Everyone, take a break. We have a night shoot tonight!" Pearl announced.
Eileen noticed Pearl seemed full of energy.
She was tired, but Pearl wasn't.
Pearl still had to organize the night shoot, and she was pregnant.
Eileen was a bit worried about Pearl.
She also felt that since Adrian's family showed up, Pearl had changed.
Though she smiled, there was always a hint of sadness in her eyes.
Plus, Pearl was working harder than ever.
"Pearl, your belly is big now. Even if you're filling in for Penelope, you need to rest. Let Emma handle some things. You don't have to do everything yourself," Eileen said, genuinely admiring her.
If she were pregnant, she wouldn't want to do anything.
Pregnancy was hard enough.
Pearl, in loose maternity clothes, was thin except for her big belly. She smiled and said, "It's okay. If I'm not here overseeing things, I won't feel at ease. I've gotten used to it. Besides, I'm earning a living for my baby."
Eileen said, "The baby's father has to be responsible too. You're working too hard!"
Thinking about her situation, Pearl smiled and said, "Relying on others is never dependable. It's better to rely on yourself."
This made Eileen suspicious. "What's wrong with you? Since that day, you seem different. You always need to earn money. When the baby is born, won't it be the same? Besides, you're not alone. We all want to be the baby's godmother. What are you worried about?"
They had all competed to be the baby's godmother.
Even without a father, the baby would have plenty of love from them.
Pearl said, "Maybe I'm just being cautious."
"You should rest for a while. We have a night shoot tonight. Take care of your face. Don't let it look bad on camera!" Pearl teased.
Eileen, getting more familiar with Pearl, smiled. "Don't worry, I never relied on my looks."
Pearl walked away alone, holding her phone.
These days, she didn't know how many times she had called Adrian.
She still worried about him, but there was no news.
The Egan family had come to trouble her several times.
She wanted to know his whereabouts more than anyone.
This time, she called again, but it didn't go through.
A few seconds later, the phone rang.
It was Adrian calling!
