Chapter 392 The Child is Dead

Pearl was in total shock.

She thought the nurse was joking.

How could her baby not be here?

She forced a shaky smile. "No, you must be mistaken. If my baby isn't here, where else could he be?"

Pearl considered other possibilities. "If my name isn't registered, the father's should be. Oscar, please check again."

Despite trying to stay calm, she was starting to panic.

The nurse checked again.

"Still not registered," the nurse said.

"That's impossible!" Pearl didn't believe it. "I'll check myself!"

She was frantic.

She thought the nurse missed a name and felt better only after checking herself.

When she didn't see the name, despair hit her.

Pearl tried to comfort herself, "Maybe it was missed. I'll go check!"

She pretended to stay calm, insisting on looking herself.

"Miss, you can't go in. Parents aren't allowed beyond this point," the nurse stopped her.

Pearl's emotions rose. "But I'm the mother. I just gave birth. They said the baby was in the incubator. How could he not be here? You're lying to me. He must be here!"

She couldn't believe it. Delilah also said the baby was in the incubator.

If Delilah lied, who wouldn't?

Everyone was lying to her!

"Miss, calm down," the nurse said. "We can check again."

"Check?" Pearl didn't know who to blame. "Didn't you just check? Didn't you find nothing? Where is my baby? Where did he go?"

She widened her eyes, grabbed the nurse, and asked, not knowing who else to ask.

The nurse was intimidated.

More nurses came over.

They held Pearl back, saying, "Ms. Harris, you need to calm down."

Everyone told her to calm down, but they didn't understand she was a mother who had lost her child.

"Will my baby appear if I calm down? Why is everyone lying to me?" Pearl looked at Delilah, grabbed her, and questioned, "They don't know, but you do, right? Where is my baby? Even if I can't hold him, I just want to see him from afar. Where is my baby!"

She was hysterical, making Delilah feel guilty, not knowing how to respond.

Everyone fell silent. No one answered her.

Pearl looked at all the nurses, so many people in the hospital, yet they couldn't keep her baby safe.

They had deceived her for so long.

Why was this happening?

At that moment, Oscar walked in, knowing Pearl had reached the incubator room.

As he approached, Pearl looked at him with red eyes and ran over, grabbing his hand. "Oscar, look at them. They say the baby isn't here. Tell them the baby is here. Didn't you say so? The baby's eyes are big like mine."

Oscar's expression was grave, his brows furrowed, very serious. The look in his eyes made her heart sink. She loudly questioned, "What do you mean by staying silent?"

Oscar pursed his lips and finally said coldly, "The baby is dead."

Pearl's pupils contracted, feeling as if struck by lightning.

Her face went pale, and her legs started to give out.

"What did you say?" Pearl shook her head. "Impossible. How could my baby be dead? Didn't you say he was healthy? Why would he die? You're lying to me."

She stared at Oscar with red eyes, gritting her teeth. "Oscar, when will you stop lying to me? Why lie about the baby too?"

"I'm sorry."

Pearl screamed, "What's the use of saying sorry? Will it bring him back? What did you do? How could he die? What did you do to my child?"

Oscar's eyes were bloodshot, lips tightly pressed, looking cold and harsh.

"He was dead at birth!"

Pearl's heart shattered, her gaze slowly filling with hatred.

She bit his arm.

Oscar didn't move, letting her bite, enduring the pain.

Pearl kept staring at him, biting hard, almost tearing off his flesh.

Blood seeped from her lips, dripping to the ground.

Oscar didn't struggle, letting her vent her anger.

Seeing his lack of reaction, Pearl felt it wasn't enough to vent her rage and hatred.

She let go, blood on her lips, and coldly said, "Oscar, why do you bring disaster every time you appear? Why am I alive while the baby is dead? Why do you hide everything from me? Tell me, where is he? I need to see him, dead or alive!"

"I already buried him," Oscar told her.

"Where did you bury him?" Pearl asked.

Oscar grabbed her. "You're not well enough to go out. We'll talk when you're better!"

Pearl pushed him away. "Tell me, where did you bury the baby!"

"Pearl!"

"Oscar!" Pearl roared. "Tell me now, or I'll hate you forever!"

Oscar stared at her, seeing the determination in her eyes. The baby's death was a huge blow to her.

"It happened so suddenly. I buried him behind the hospital," Oscar said calmly.

Hearing this, Pearl ran off.

Oscar grabbed her hand again. "Don't go out."

Pearl widened her eyes, shouting, "What right do you have to control me! For the baby, I endured many times. Now the baby is gone, and we're over. Isn't this what you wanted? Are you satisfied? You don't deserve to be a father! Don't bother me! Compared to your coldness, Adrian, who is far away, cares about me a hundred times more. Why is it Adrian who had gone missing, not you!?"

With that, Pearl ran out recklessly.

Oscar stood stunned for a while, blood from his arm flowing uncontrollably, his fist clenched, trembling.

Pearl's heart was breaking!

Her baby, whom she hadn't even seen, how could he be gone?

This was unfair!

She carried him for ten months, waiting for his arrival.

She would rather die to let her baby live.

‘Why was God so cruel to me?’

Pearl crawled to the back of the hospital, shocked, and knelt down at the small grave.

Pearl was nearly collapsing, digging the soil with her hands.

Her tears flowed uncontrollably.

Her world had collapsed.

She had lost the will to live.

Pearl kept digging, her fingers bleeding, finally reaching a box.

She froze, her whole hand trembling, crying out in pain. "Baby, how could this happen? Mommy hasn't even had the chance to name you or see you even once. How could you be gone?"

She couldn't accept it at all!
