Chapter 768 What Are You Doing
But the woman was still fuming, her eyes practically shooting daggers at Saskia.
She'd been with Marlon for five years. Five long years, almost two thousand days and nights. She'd brought up marriage a bunch of times, wanting a stable home, but he always shot her down.
Marlon's excuse? They were still young, and he didn't want to be tied down by marriage just yet.
She bought it until she saw Saskia. In that moment, she realized that when a guy says he doesn't want to be tied down, it usually means he just hasn't found the one he really wants to marry.
If Saskia had popped the question, Marlon would've said yes in a heartbeat, grinning like an idiot.
"Come on, leave already. Do you want them to call the cops and have you arrested before you calm down?" Marlon came over to pull her again and said, "This is a hospital, not your home. Even if you want to make a scene, there's a limit."
What did he mean by saying she was making a scene?
Was any of this her fault?
If Marlon hadn't taken time off to come to the hospital to fuss over Saskia, and if Saskia hadn't reached out to Marlon, none of this would have happened. She was clearly the victim of all of this!
The woman had a lot of grievances she wanted to voice, but when she saw the impatience in Marlon's eyes, her words got stuck in her throat.
What was the point of saying anything?
He didn't think he was in the wrong at all. He would just think she was being unreasonable. In the end, she would be left with nothing but the label of a shrew.
"George, she just tried to hit both of us. My stomach hurts a bit now. I'm scared." Azalea clung tightly to Nathaniel's arm and said, "Will the baby be okay?"
Azalea and Saskia didn't come from good families. Even though they had parents, it felt like they didn't have any. One was a drunk and a gambler, while the other just broke things at home, unleashing all their negative emotions on Azalea and Saskia.
After Azalea's parents died, she finally felt genuinely free.
Since she was a kid, she had secretly vowed that when she grew up, she would be a good mother and find a good father for her children.
Everything seemed to be on track now. Azalea had her own little family, and George was so good to her. If anything were to happen to the baby, it would be a devastating tragedy.
"She's pregnant?" The woman's face turned even paler upon hearing this.
There were cameras in the hospital hallway. If something were to happen to the baby, she wouldn't be able to evade responsibility. And with Nathaniel being a lawyer, she risked losing everything she had.
In a panic, she grabbed Marlon's hand and ran out.
Azalea watched their retreating backs, fuming. "They come and go as they please. How can they be so domineering?"
"I'll take you to see the doctor first. The baby is the priority." Nathaniel prepared to take her downstairs for a check-up.
Before leaving, he glanced at Saskia, who hurriedly followed, her eyes full of worry.
Azalea's injury today was all because of her.
After registering, Azalea took the form to get checked, while Saskia and Nathaniel waited in the hallway.
"Even if you can't go a second without a man, you should at least have some basic decency. Throwing yourself at someone to be a mistress and dragging Azalea into it—what am I supposed to say to you?" Nathaniel deliberately provoked Saskia. He went on, "I've noticed a pattern. Anyone who's good to you ends up getting hurt. It happened to me back then, and now it's happening to Azalea."
His mistake was loving Saskia too much and putting her on a pedestal. That's why he was so heartbroken when she left without a word.
If he had been more heartless, like other rich kids who just saw women as playthings, he wouldn't have been so hurt when she left.
Azalea, if it weren't for Saskia, how could she have been dragged into this mess today?
Saskia fell silent.
She knew Nathaniel was deliberately aiming for her soft spots. With his profession and their shared history, he knew exactly which words would hurt her the most.
She kept telling herself not to listen, not to care, but his words were like a curse, burrowing deep into her mind.
"Why aren't you saying anything?" Nathaniel grabbed her face, forcing her to look into his eyes. "Don't play dumb with me. You're so good at talking when it comes to men. Why can't you say anything now?"
The door behind them suddenly opened, and Azalea walked out.
Seeing the two of them so close, she hesitated. "What are you doing?"
They were standing so close; wasn't it a bit too intimate?
This was Azalea's dearest sister, Saskia, and her fiancé, George. No way— even if the whole world betrayed her, Saskia and George would always be by her side.
At this, Saskia instinctively stepped back.
But Nathaniel didn't let go, maintaining his grip. "You saw it all, didn't you?"
"George, let go of Saskia. What's going on here?" Azalea looked from him to Saskia, desperately needing an explanation.
This was Azalea's dearest sister, Saskia, and her fiancé, George. No way— even if the whole world betrayed her, Saskia and George would always be by her side.
Azalea's doubts vanished in an instant.
George had such a big issue with Saskia that there was no way he could be involved with her.
Azalea thought that she had been overthinking it.
She quickly came over to mediate. "Alright, don't be mad. Today's incident wasn't Saskia's fault. We didn't know that man was married. If we had known, we would have kicked him out long ago. I even wanted to set him up with Saskia at first. We're both victims here."
Nathaniel's expression turned icy.
Did Azalea really want to play matchmaker?
She must have too much time on her hands.
To Azalea, his current demeanor just showed how much he cared for her, which was why he was so rough.
Azalea wrapped her arms around his, gently steering him away as she softly pleaded, "George, let's just forget about what happened today. You both mean the world to me, and I really want you to get along. If you two clash, I won't know who to support."
Saskia stood by, hearing everything clearly.
Azalea saw her as the closest person in her life, but her relationship with Nathaniel was complicated.
"Kiss me, and once it's done, we can forget about it. Whoever brings it up again is just being childish." Azalea stood on her tiptoes, aiming to plant a kiss on his cheek.
Nathaniel instinctively dodged.
He then found an excuse for his earlier behavior. "This is a public place, there are cameras."
"We're an engaged couple. What does it matter if there are cameras? We're together, and that's what matters." Azalea felt unhappy but chose not to say anything more.
