Chapter 210 Unaccustomed Without Her
Oscar paused, his eyes narrowing dangerously. "What secret?"
Seeing Oscar's interest, the other guy spilled the beans. "Pearl has made several visits to the hospital. The medical staff has kept it under wraps, likely at her request. However, we did some digging and discovered that she was spotted on the hospital's surveillance footage entering the obstetrics and gynecology department."
Oscar was stunned, unable to process it right away.
He'd run into Pearl at the hospital a few times. She'd said her periods were irregular and she was just getting checked out.
He'd offered to take her, but she always turned him down.
She was clearly hiding something from him.
He never pried into her private life, nor did he think much about it.
He didn't even want to think about it.
For the past three years, he and Pearl had kept their distance; they never had a sexual relationship.
Even if he wanted to, Pearl wasn't interested, and he wouldn't force her.
There was a huge gap in their marriage, and he had to respect that.
Even now, Oscar didn't want to jump to conclusions. The more he thought about it, the more tangled his thoughts became, like an invisible net trapping him.
"Is this info legit?" Oscar asked calmly.
"It's legit. I copied Pearl's movements in the hospital and I'll send them to your phone soon."
"Alright."
Oscar hung up.
After a bit, his phone screen lit up.
The surveillance footage had arrived.
Oscar didn't look at it right away. He just sat in his office chair for a long time.
He sat until it got dark, and he sat into the late hours of the night.
The office staff had long gone, but his light stayed on, and he sat there, deep in thought.
Maybe Oscar was just scared.
He feared Pearl's visits to the obstetrics and gynecology department weren't just routine check-ups; he feared something worse.
When did he become so hesitant?
He couldn't accept it.
As Pearl's husband, he wouldn't let something like this happen.
Oscar didn't leave work, and Harold didn't either. He waited outside, always aware of Oscar's mood.
After that phone call, Oscar's expression had changed.
It seemed like a tough issue for him to handle.
The only person who could make Oscar look like that was probably Pearl.
Even though Oscar hadn't mentioned Pearl since she left and kept up his routine, Harold still sensed his unease.
Only when no one was around did Oscar show it on his face.
Maybe he wasn't ready to let Pearl go.
"Let's go home."
Suddenly, Oscar walked out of the office, speaking coldly to Harold.
Harold didn't dare ask about Pearl.
He'd also warned the staff not to mention her.
Bringing her up would definitely cause a stir.
Naturally, the staff didn't dare mention Pearl. Even though things seemed off, her name had become taboo.
On the way, Oscar didn't say a word, just stared out the window.
Harold noticed this through the rearview mirror. If anything had changed, it was that Oscar spoke much less.
Whenever he had time, he would fall into deep thought.
Oscar returned to the Brown family's old house.
Hathaway was sitting in the living room, drinking coffee, waiting for him.
Seeing Oscar, she immediately put down her coffee and greeted him with a smile, "Oscar, you're back. Why so late today?"
She didn't hold any grudges over their arguments.
Oscar took off his suit jacket, and Hathaway instinctively caught it and helped him hang it up.
"Busy," Oscar replied curtly.
Lately, Oscar had been coming home as usual, but Hathaway noticed Pearl wasn't with him.
Hathaway knew Oscar didn't want Pearl to face her displeasure, so he had taken her somewhere else to stay. But for several days now, Oscar had been coming home alone, which made Hathaway curious.
She hadn't heard Oscar mention Pearl, so she started to worry.
Hathaway found out that Pearl hadn't been to the company for several days.
Had they broken up?
Hathaway was eager to uncover more details, but Oscar wasn't always forthcoming with her. She found it particularly challenging to obtain any information regarding the events unfolding at Serenity Haven Estates.
Although Hathaway was Oscar's mother and the mistress of the house, nobody listened to her; they only listened to Oscar.
This frustrated Hathaway.
The key issue was whether Pearl and Oscar were still together.
Hathaway had to find out.
As Oscar was heading upstairs, Hathaway spoke up, "I haven't seen Pearl lately. Are you two fighting, or are you already divorced?"
If they were divorced, Hathaway would quickly share the news with Haley.
That way, Haley could become Oscar's next wife.
Haley was quite impressive now. If everyone knew the Brown family had married a famous star, it would be prestigious.
Oscar stopped in his tracks. He had managed to stay composed earlier, but now he said coldly, "Instead of worrying about others, you should focus on Dad!"
Hathaway's face turned unpleasant and angry at his words.
She wanted to say more, but Oscar went upstairs without looking back.
He didn't even want to look at her now and said things that hurt her feelings. For the sake of Pearl, Oscar didn't even care much about their mother-son-relationOscar cared so little about their mother-son relationship, all for the sake of Pearl..
Hathaway was both angry and frustrated, but she had to endure it because she had abandoned him once and now had to seek him out again.
It was all the consequence of her own actions.
Oscar returned to the bedroom and felt a cold breeze as he opened the door.
The room was empty, with no trace of Pearl.
He stood at the doorway, staring blankly. Pearl used to be on the bed.
She would either be playing on her phone or reading a book.
Oscar's gaze lingered on the bed for a long time, and suddenly he saw Pearl sitting on the bed in her pajamas, looking at him.
A hint of joy appeared on his face, and he was about to go over and hug her, but she disappeared.
His hand hung in the air; it was all just his imagination. Pearl had never come back.
She had already left.
Oscar snapped back to reality, his emotions reined in. He walked over to the closet, preparing to take a shower and go to bed.
When he opened it, the clothes were neatly arranged, but it was no longer the case that he could just come back, put his clothes aside, and go straight to the shower.
No longer could he immediately see the clothes he wanted to wear.
The closet was tidy, but at a glance, he couldn't find anything.
It was no different from being messy.
Only with Pearl around did everything go smoothly.
He wondered again, what method did Pearl use to make his life so easy? Clearly, the organization was the same, but why did it feel so different?
He closed the closet again. The sudden absence of what once was pressed heavily on his heart, making it hard to breathe.
This bedroom was unbearable for him to stay in.
Oscar walked out to the study.
He opened his phone and clicked on the video on the computer.
Pearl's route in the hospital indeed led to the obstetrics and gynecology department.
She came out after about twenty minutes.
She was holding many papers, but it was unclear what was on them. He only saw Pearl tearing the papers into pieces and throwing them into the trash can.
However, Oscar noticed Daniel.
