Chapter 534 It's Not That I Don't Want to Help You
Alfonso shot Oscar a frosty glare.
Oscar knew Alfonso had been pretty decent to him before.
Oscar ran the whole Brown family show, and Alfonso never griped. Even after Hathaway's mess, Alfonso had his back.
But now? Different story.
"I ain't taking what Grandpa left you," Oscar said, his voice ice-cold, eyes sharp.
Translation: "Don't even think about grabbing anything David didn't hand you."
Alfonso was floored by Oscar's stubbornness!
He jabbed a finger at Oscar. "Oscar, without the Brown family, you'd be a nobody. I'm trying to be nice, but don't push me."
"You wanna tell everyone I'm not a Brown?" Oscar cut in, smirking.
Alfonso clammed up, but he got it. Oscar had seen some stuff abroad; he wasn't clueless.
"Since you know, you should realize how much you owe the Browns. Why you trying to snatch what's not yours?"
Alfonso was ready to cut ties.
Oscar stayed cool. "If you want it, take it to court. I'm game. Harold, show him out!"
Harold hustled over.
He motioned for Alfonso to leave. "This way, Mr. Brown."
Alfonso knew Oscar's game; David wouldn't have handed over the Brown Group if he didn't trust Oscar's chops.
To avoid a scene, Alfonso left on his own. But he wasn't done.
He went to find Magdalen.
Magdalen and Harold had been running the Brown Group tight. Pearl had handed over her shares, but Magdalen gave them back.
Oscar's return had Magdalen stoked; at least he wasn't dead.
She was ready for a break.
But then Alfonso showed up.
"What do you want?" Magdalen asked.
Alfonso had never lifted a finger for the Brown Group, always doing his own thing.
He never reached out to her either.
"We're both Browns, and you're my sister. Don't help an outsider," Alfonso said, dead serious.
The "outsider" was Oscar, right?
When she was running the show solo, Alfonso never said squat.
Now Oscar's back, and he's got opinions.
Alfonso and Hathaway were cut from the same cloth.
"I'm helping my nephew, how's that an outsider? If you want something, fight for it fair and square. But let's be real, you never cared before, so save it."
Magdalen knew Oscar was legit and couldn't stand Alfonso's antics.
"So, you think I should just sit back and let all the Brown family assets go to some outsider? Magdalen, you're totally brainwashed by them!"
Alfonso was fuming.
He got what she meant loud and clear.
She figured since the assets were handed to Oscar, he should handle them solo. Once given, no take-backs.
But Oscar wasn't even a real Brown!
"Yeah, I'm brainwashed. If you think I'm siding with an outsider, then we're done here." Magdalen wasn't in the mood to argue or waste time on this nonsense.
She wanted to see Christopher.
She was curious how Christopher would carry on their legacy.
Alfonso was livid at Magdalen's stance. Already mad, her attitude cranked his anger up a notch.
"Magdalen, you know Oscar's deal better than I do. You'd rather let the Brown family's assets go to an outsider than help your own brother?"
Alfonso's rage grew, and he even took a few threatening steps toward Magdalen.
Magdalen didn't budge.
Her eyes met Alfonso's coldly, with a hint of defiance.
She wanted to see if Alfonso would actually hit her!
In the end, Alfonso didn't.
Magdalen's voice was icy. "It's not that I don't want to help you. The Brown Group's success is all Oscar's doing. Dad gave it to Oscar. If you wanted it, why didn't you step up before?"
Alfonso was left speechless.
Magdalen was done arguing. "Even if you take Oscar to court, it won't work, let alone coming to me."
"I don't want to manage it, and I don't want to hear about it. But you should know, you have no right, and what's not given to you isn't yours."
With that, Magdalen walked away, not looking back.
Alfonso stood there, stunned, watching her leave, her words echoing in his head.
No right?
All the Brown family assets handed to Oscar, just like he told Oscar, he couldn't let Oscar run the whole show alone.
After dealing with Alfonso, Oscar handed everything over to Harold and headed back to Serenity Haven Estates.
Pearl was getting Christopher ready for school.
Oscar came back with food and red roses. Seeing him juggling flowers and groceries, Pearl laughed. "At our age, you're still bringing me these?"
"Age has nothing to do with it. Plus, we haven't had our wedding yet." Oscar saw no issue.
Romance never gets old. He always felt he owed Pearl. While they were together, while they were still young, he wanted to give Pearl everything.
