Chapter 499 What Are You Planning
Pearl pushed Oscar away and said, "Just keep my child safe. Do what you need to do."
"You don't want me anymore?"
Oscar couldn't bear to hear more. His eyes were locked on Pearl, red and teary.
He knew showing up after five years would make her mad and blame him.
But he couldn't fight fate; he couldn't come back as a cripple.
Pearl felt a lump in her throat, her face flushed with emotion.
She noticed the scar on Oscar's forehead and his gray hair.
Her heart ached.
She reached out to touch his face. "I know you have your reasons. Oscar, I can't stop you or help you. I just want Christopher."
She wanted to be with Christopher and make up for the lost five years.
Oscar's heart ached too.
He'd rather Pearl scold him than understand him.
Oscar wanted to say more, but blood surged up his throat. He took a deep breath and forced it down.
He said hoarsely, "You should eat something. I'll grab something and be right back."
He placed the porridge on the bedside table and left.
As soon as he stepped out, he couldn't hold it in and spat out blood.
"Mr. Stewart. here's your medicine." Leroy quickly approached, handed him three pills from a small white bottle.
Oscar took the medicine and leaned against the wall, gasping.
Leroy said, "Mr. Charles Stewart has arranged for more help. Why don't you go back?"
Charles wanted Oscar to take over his position. No way would he let Oscar quit or turn against him now.
Determination flashed in Oscar's eyes. "I won't leave."
He'd never leave Pearl again.
Pearl had already blamed him and didn't want him. If he left now, she'd never see him again.
"Keep an eye on her."
"Yes," Leroy responded, watching Oscar leave.
Charles had found and saved Oscar at great cost. From the moment Oscar was found, Charles had assigned Leroy to watch over and protect him. Leroy had watched over Oscar for more than three years before he woke up.
Oscar had multiple fractures and severe skin damage. Over the next year, he had countless surgeries to recover.
Leroy, having accompanied Oscar, knew his hardships and knew that every time Oscar was in pain, he cried out "Pearl."
Leroy hesitated but still opened the door to Pearl's room.
Hearing the noise, Pearl thought it was Oscar but was surprised to see a stranger.
The recent events were still fresh in her mind, and she was extremely vigilant.
"Don't be afraid, I'm not a bad person. I'm Mr. Stewart's bodyguard."
Leroy noticed Pearl's wary eyes and quickly tried to reassure her.
Pearl frowned but stayed silent.
"I won't hurt you. I came to tell you something," Leroy said.
Pearl looked at him, waiting.
After a pause, Leroy said, "Mr. Stewart was saved by Mr. Charles Stewart and was in a coma for over three years. The bullet was close to his heart, and he had multiple fractures and severe injuries. During his coma, he could only recuperate to avoid anesthesia side effects. He spent the next year in rehab and surgeries. When he was in pain, he called your name. Mr. Stewart cares about you a lot. Now, for your sake, he's going against Mr. Charles Stewart, who has arranged for many people. He has a 'Zero' plan."
"Leroy!" Oscar's angry voice interrupted from afar.
Leroy instinctively stood up straight.
Oscar's people were all like this.
But Leroy's words still echoed in Pearl's ears. She had guessed Oscar had his reasons but didn't expect him to have been in a coma for so long.
The long recovery and surgeries must have been very painful for him.
"Get out!" Oscar shouted again as he walked over.
Leroy nodded and left.
Pearl and Oscar looked at each other, neither speaking.
When they both started talking at the same time, they stopped, taken aback. After a moment, they tried again, but once more spoke in unison.
Oscar nodded for Pearl to go first.
After a pause, Pearl said softly, "I know you're doing your thing. You didn't tell me because you didn't want me in danger. Oscar, after sending Christopher to me, regardless of whether you succeed, you'll sacrifice yourself. Is that your plan?"
Her eyes were fixed on Oscar.
She could understand his thoughts. Five years had passed, and she had accepted he was dead. If he didn't tell her and died again, she would never know and wouldn't be sad for him again.
But things didn't go as planned.
Oscar wanted to speak, but the words stuck in his throat.
To Pearl, his silence was an admission.
She took a deep breath and said sarcastically, "Oscar, you really have a good plan. You've arranged everything perfectly, but you overlooked one thing. Not everything goes as you imagine. I don't allow you to have such thoughts again. I hope you can survive," she said, holding his hand seriously.
As long as Oscar survived, she could accept him living under another identity, even if he married and had children.
Oscar refused, saying seriously, "Pearl, that's impossible. I won't marry and have children with someone else. I want to be with you and Christopher!"
He pulled Pearl close, holding her tightly.
Pearl heard his strong, steady heartbeat and smelled his faint scent.
