Chapter 523 A Chorus of Curses
Now, on the international forum, his rep had tanked, and it was just a flood of hate against him.
Especially since his face was caught crystal clear.
"It's you!"
Charles's eyes were blazing with rage. He had one thing on his mind: taking out Pearl.
Pearl was the real problem!
Without her, Oscar wouldn't have kept defying him.
But with the live stream going, he couldn't touch Pearl.
Facing Charles's grilling, Pearl didn't flinch. "Yeah, it's me. You pushed us too far. We just wanted to live in peace, but you wouldn't let us. You kept Christopher close and didn't cure him just to use him against Oscar."
Oscar hadn't reached out to her for five years. First, 'cause he was in a coma from some nasty injuries, and later, he wanted to wait until things were sorted to live a good life together.
But things changed. He was scared Pearl would get hurt, so he showed himself to her early.
Luckily, he made the right call by sending Christopher to Pearl. Later, they could take Christopher to the Eldorians.
Charles's eyes were ice-cold. "If there was a way to cure Christopher, you think I'd let him die?"
"But the fact is, my dad cured Christopher," Pearl locked eyes with Charles and spoke coldly, word by word.
Charles's smile turned more mocking. "Well, there's nothing I can do. You just happen to have a dad who loves experimenting."
"In that case, why did you have the antidote back then?" Pearl squinted at Charles.
Charles had the antidote back then and went looking for Oscar to make a deal. That was the main point.
Pearl had a camera on her, so he couldn't say more.
Pearl had already read everything from his expression. Meanwhile, the heat on the international forum was getting louder: [Honestly, I never thought a president could be this awful. Can he even run his own country right?]
[No wonder Serenea's had so many wars lately. It's all because of him!]
[Unbelievable!]
[Step down! Give the people of Serenea a bright future!]
[Not helping his own son is one thing, but he even wants to crush him. Poor Oscar and Pearl!]
[War correspondents, such a noble job. And Oscar, wasn't he part of the Tranquiloria army? In such a mess, it's amazing he didn't get sucked in by Charles!]
[If something happens to Pearl and Oscar, I'll be the first to call out Charles. Who's with me?]
Even though Charles hadn't seen these comments himself, his bodyguard would definitely tell him.
Charles didn't want to get too affected, so he waved his hand. "You can go."
Pearl had a camera on her, and with such a big impact on the international forum, if something happened to Pearl and Oscar, he'd be the main suspect.
But then again, this had to be Pearl's plan!
Pearl was a war correspondent, and she was smart and gutsy!
At that moment, Charles finally got why Oscar was so head over heels for Pearl.
Pearl knew that Charles wouldn't be coming after them again.
But Mackenzie? She wasn't about to let them go that easy.
Mackenzie rushed in front of Oscar, blocking their way. "Oscar, you think you can just take her away? I'm your fiancée, I won't allow it!"
"That was Charles's doing, not mine. Pearl is my wife," Oscar said calmly, shutting her down.
Then he grabbed Pearl's hand and walked out.
Mackenzie tried to chase after them but got yelled at. "Mackenzie, stop!"
With no other choice, Mackenzie had to stop. But she was dead set on getting Oscar back.
The humiliation from Oscar, and with so many people watching, she had to get her revenge!
Meanwhile, on Louis's side.
Louis took Christopher to grab a bite, then sent him to RavenWing for treatment. When he got back to his room and had only been handling business for a bit, he saw Jimena standing at the door, holding a carefully chosen shirt for him.
The shirt was black and white with fancy embroidery, totally matching his vibe.
But when she handed it over, Louis turned it down. "Jimena, I can buy my own clothes."
It wasn't her place to give him stuff.
Jimena got the hint but wasn't ready to give up.
She softened her tone, almost pleading. "Louis, I spent a long time picking this shirt. It's a limited edition, and I went through a lot to get it. Just take it and try it on. If it doesn't look good, you can toss it."
The moment she saw the shirt, she thought it was perfect for Louis.
No matter what she said, Louis just wouldn't budge.
He straight-up said, "Jimena, I've made it clear. I don't like you."
Jimena knew this.
But hearing Louis say it so bluntly still hurt, and her eyes welled up.
"Louis, I know. You don't want me now. That's fine. I can wait as long as it takes." Jimena forced a smile.
She really loved Louis, loved him deeply.
So even if it was one-sided, with no response from him, she was willing.
But Louis didn't see it that way. "I don't like you now, and I won't in the future. Why waste your time on me?"
Jimena deserved someone who loved her back.
"But I don't think it's a waste of time. I'm willing to do these things for you." Jimena was on the verge of tears.
She didn't even dare to hope for Louis's love. But did he really have to reject her one-sided devotion too?
That would be too cruel.
"Return the shirt, or give it to someone else. And don't come looking for me again." Louis turned and left.
He didn't look back as he walked out the door.
Behind him, Jimena's eyes stayed on him. She watched him leave until the door closed, cutting off her view.
She looked down at the shirt in her hands, tears falling onto it.
