Chapter 324 Comparison
When the time came, Haley couldn't wait to see Pearl make a fool of herself.
'Instead of focusing on journalism, she’s investing in TV dramas. She better watch out or she'll lose everything and go broke.' This was what Haley looked forward to the most.
Oscar stayed quiet, but his eyes showed a hint of emotion.
They were parked at the entrance, sitting in the car.
Haley tried to lean on Oscar, but he said, "You've posted so much online. When are we getting married? When will Pearl get better?"
Haley almost smiled to spilt her face. "Don't rush. I'm busy filming and don't have much time. Besides, Pearl won't die now. I won't let her. She might suffer a bit more, but with Jeffery around, she won't suffer too much. I promise she'll be healthy in the end!"
Oscar looked at her coldly. "I hope you keep your word."
Haley said sweetly, "It looks like you're betting on Pearl, but I'm betting on you. If I betray your trust, I'd be throwing myself into the fire. I'm not that stupid. I want a grand wedding. I want to be the happiest woman in the world, and only you can give me that!"
She leaned her head on Oscar's shoulder, enjoying the moment.
She had longed for such moments before.
Now, they had finally come true.
One had to fight for what one wanted, even if it meant using any means necessary.
They got out of the car at the film base.
"Pearl, hurry up. We're going to be late!"
Pearl and Emma arrived in a Volkswagen, driving slowly, and they were already five minutes late due to traffic.
"Okay."
Pearl, carrying a big bag, followed Emma's pace.
She ran into Oscar and Haley.
Pearl was without makeup, dressed in loose clothes, and wore black-framed glasses.
She recently found out she was nearsighted and got glasses.
Probably because she was rushing work and busy with filming, spending too much time looking at screens.
She jogged and bumped into Oscar and Haley.
No need to think, Oscar must be accompanying Haley to the set.
Emma paused and politely greeted, "Mr. Brown."
Pearl just glanced at them and didn't pay much attention.
"Pearl, congrats on becoming an investor now," Haley said.
Pearl looked up at Haley. Although she said congrats, her eyes said the show was destined to fail.
Pearl responded formally, "Thanks."
Haley continued, "Did you know I was chosen as the lead actress for 'Echoes of the Enchanted Realm'?"
She wanted Pearl to know her capabilities.
Pearl said, "Sorry, I've been busy with the new drama and haven't followed entertainment news."
"No worries." Haley smiled. "After all, you're not an actress. We're just filming in the same place. I heard the script is by Penelope. Penelope isn't famous, right? I haven't heard much about her. Be careful with your investment."
Pearl smiled slightly. "I have my own judgment, no need for your concern!"
She and Emma quickly walked inside.
Compared to the big production of 'Echoes of the Enchanted Realm,' theirs was low-budget.
There were more actors and cameras on the 'Echoes of the Enchanted Realm' set, making their side seem a bit deserted.
But they were determined to make a good drama.
Pearl was busy all day and didn't have time to eat.
Penelope, holding a script and sweating, shouting, "Cut!"
The scene ended.
Eileen's makeup had changed significantly, with a modern look and makeup that made her appear injured, full of brokenness and stubbornness.
Pearl watched the footage on the camera. Although they had only shot the first take, she had read the script and thought Eileen's acting was excellent.
Eileen's emotions in her eyes had already embodied the lead character.
Suddenly, someone was knocked down.
Pearl looked over and saw Jacob Campbell, suspended by a wire, knocking down their actress Madison Price.
Jacob said, "Sorry, we couldn't control it."
It was quite painful to be hit.
"Your set is so big, why do you have to come to ours?"
"We have a lot of people and fight scenes, flying around. We really can't control it, sorry!"
Despite his words, Jacob continued flying around.
"You've already encroached on our space!" Emma said angrily. "We're filming a modern drama here. Is it reasonable for you to fly around? Aren't you afraid of continuity errors?"
"We haven't crossed your spot yet, and you're already complaining. Have you thought about why you got hit? Maybe you intruded on our space!" Jacob retorted.
"You!" Emma put her hands on her hips, knowing from his words that it was intentional.
Jacob glanced disdainfully and said, "What kind of crappy drama are you filming? Your investment isn't even half of ours, and you're still shouting. Do you really think the film base belongs to you?"
"You!" Emma was furious.
Penelope held Emma back and warned them, "Our investment may not be as much as yours, and we may not be as popular, but there are rules in filming!"
Jacob, however, disdainfully walked away on the wire.
"This is infuriating. They're clearly bullying us!" Emma said.
Penelope said, "It happens often. Just endure it. Once we finish this scene, we won't have to stay here. Everyone, stay focused!"
Unable to compete with the big director, they had no choice but to endure.
But during filming, Jacob kept getting into the frame, causing constant disruptions.
They had to cut more than ten takes.
Seeing Jacob deliberately causing trouble, Pearl couldn't stand it anymore. She looked at Madison and said, "Don't you have a tennis scene? Let's shoot that first."
Madison immediately understood. She was a professional tennis player and picked up a tennis racket, hitting a ball towards Jacob.
She hit several balls in a row, directly at Jacob.
Now it was Jacob's turn to scream.
"What are you doing? Trying to kill me?" Jacob, with several bumps on his head, covered his face and said angrily.
Pearl smiled at him. "We're filming. Sorry if we hit you, but we're within our designated area. If you get hurt, it's not our fault."
She immediately told Madison, "Come on, keep playing, be professional, hit the ball higher!"
Jacob was frightened and quickly left.
Emma felt relieved.
The actors in the crew also felt a sense of justice.
"Pearl, you always have a way!" Emma gave her a thumbs up.
Pearl smiled without saying anything, but she knew they were deliberately making things difficult.
Seeing Jacob, Haley's face changed, and she quickly told him to leave.
During lunchtime, both crews started to take a break.
They gathered in a similar area to eat.
Oscar and Haley were together. Seeing Pearl looking at the footage on the camera, Haley said, "Oscar, the soup is really good. You should try it."
Then she told the crew, "There's plenty of soup, everyone can have some!"
"Haley, you're so nice," the crew thanked her repeatedly.
"She’s such a show-off!” Emma couldn't help but mutter. "Two-faced!"
Pearl saw this and knew Haley was deliberately showing off in front of her.
She happened to meet Oscar's gaze. His eyes were cold, but he didn't reject Haley's service.
Pearl clenched her fists.
"Pearl, someone’s here to see you!”
She turned around and saw Adrian and his assistant approaching, carrying a lot of things.
"Adrian, what are you doing here?" Pearl shifted her gaze.
Adrian smiled. "It's your first day at work, I came to support you. These are for everyone to enjoy!”
"Wow! Pearl's friend is treating us! And it's gourmet food!"
"Adrian is so generous! This food looks great. I hate drinking soup. Fresh food like this is much more filling!" Emma said loudly on purpose.
