Chapter 355 Kevin's Pressure

Oscar, looking flustered, asked, "Where's Pearl?"

Elijah, equally confused, replied, "Ms. Harris was just here."

Oscar worried Pearl might've been kidnapped and this time he couldn't guarantee her safety. "Any suspicious people around?"

"No way, everyone here is my guy!" Elijah was sure no one could've taken Pearl.

Oscar couldn't take any more chances. Even if it was their own people, he feared someone might use Pearl for ill intentions.

"Find her now," Oscar ordered sternly, but a sharp ringing in his ears suddenly hit him, intensifying his headache.

Meanwhile, Pearl was heading to the back of the lab, following a gut feeling. She'd walked a long way. Despite the dangers, she needed to understand why she felt so strongly.

The area was overgrown with weeds, and she was cautious of snakes and insects with every step. Hearing some noise, she hid in the grass, fearing it was someone from the lab. She saw Kevin crawling out of a hole in the ground.

Anyone crawling out of that hole must've escaped from the lab. She stayed silent, watching Kevin, injured, head toward the river where a small boat was ready. Kevin had prepared it in advance.

Watching Kevin's figure when he was out, Pearl felt he was familiar, as if she had seen him before and he had stolen something important from her. The feeling made her very uncomfortable. She tried to dig up in the memory but couldn't recall anything.

Pearl's first instinct was to find someone. "Oscar, Ms. Harris sent her location, it's behind the lab!"

"Hurry up and search!"

The terrain behind the lab was complex, designed to prevent escapes. Oscar didn't understand why Pearl would go there. 'Wasn't it dangerous for her?' He didn't waste a minute and had people search immediately.

Meanwhile, Pearl watched from the grass as Kevin came out with a small box. Seeing Kevin about to take the boat and escape, she knew she couldn't let him go. She needed to buy time.

Pearl deliberately made some noise.

"Who's there!" Kevin's sharp ears caught the sound, and he looked in that direction.

Pearl bit her lip. Seeing Kevin's face clearly, she was sure she'd seen him before, more than once, but she'd lost that part of her memory. Despite this, she wanted to bluff him. If he recognized her, he'd react.

Kevin, being smart, knew there was a noise but was more worried about special forces chasing him. He stayed put and watched cautiously.

Pearl stood up from the grass. Wearing a white dress with her hair loose, she stood up slowly. If someone had done something bad, they might mistake her for a ghost.

"Trying to escape?" Pearl said.

Kevin's pupils contracted in shock and fear. The box in his hand almost fell onto the boat. "It's you!" he exclaimed in disbelief. Then, realizing something, he added warily, "No, you should've been dead long ago!"

Pearl was puzzled hearing this.

'Did he think I was dead, or is he mistaking me for someone else?' Pearl wondered.

She suddenly shouted, "Kevin! You're Kevin. You can't escape!"

Kevin, the owner here, would know about the hole. Hearing his name, Kevin's composure cracked. "Are you a human or a ghost?"

The wind blew, lifting Pearl's hair, making her pale face look even eerier. Kevin frowned, feeling immense pressure.

Pearl hesitated, afraid of saying the wrong thing. She sensed Kevin was hiding a secret that scared him.

Kevin calmed down, realizing the woman he feared was dead and couldn't be here. Looking at Pearl's face, he narrowed his eyes. "No, you must be Pearl! How dare you come here alone? Aren't you afraid I'll kill you?"

Pearl was caught, but she braced herself and sneered. "You saw through me. We've never met, but you know my name. Kevin, it seems we knew each other."

Kevin, wary of being tricked, asked, "What do you mean?"

Pearl guessed, "The dark room, you locked me in there!"

Kevin was shocked. "Do you remember?"

Pearl had been guessing, but it turned out to be true. What was her connection to them?

She still didn't understand. "How did you get close to me?"

Logically, she was in school at the time; it shouldn't have been easy to take her to such a place. And why was she so familiar with the terrain?

"You're tricking me again!" Kevin frowned, realizing she knew nothing.

Pearl steadied herself. In this secluded environment, it was a psychological battle. She needed to be stronger.

Pearl walked towards him, smiling. "I'm not afraid of death, so what if I trick you? You seemed scared when you first saw me. Did I remind you of anyone?"

Kevin's eyes turned cold. "You're really not afraid of death!"

"Don't move!" Pearl shouted. "There might be a sniper aiming at you!"

Kevin grew more vigilant, looking around. The place was surrounded by mountains; a sniper could be anywhere. But then he scoffed. "If there were a sniper, I'd be dead already. You came alone, Pearl. You're brave!"

Kevin aimed his gun at Pearl. "Then kill me. Let's see if you can escape!" Pearl stared coldly.

Kevin was still worried. He wasn't afraid of the lab being destroyed but feared for his life. Otherwise, he wouldn't have sacrificed so many lives to escape.

"Don't come any closer!" Kevin warned. "If you move again, I'll shoot!"

Pearl's presence still pressured Kevin. He hadn't killed her before, and now he wanted to save his life. He was thinking of escape, but Pearl fearlessly stopped him.

Using fragments of her memory, Pearl questioned, "Why did you lock me in the dark room? Who told you to do it?"

Kevin clenched his fists, cold sweat dripping from his forehead, showing how much her questioning scared him. He couldn't bear it anymore. If he had to die, taking Pearl with him would be worth it.

He aimed at Pearl's head and pulled the trigger. A gunshot rang out.
