Chapter 637 Changing Their Minds Overnight

Desiree quickly covered the box and said, "Nobody says a word about this; got it?"

With everyone looking puzzled, she rushed to the office and plopped the red velvet box on Harold's desk.

Harold took one look and asked, "Is it that guy again?"

"Seems like it." Desiree frowned, still unsure why this person kept sending her stuff. "This time, there was a note asking me to meet up tomorrow."

Harold picked it up and saw the address written on it, just like she said.

"Universal Studios isn't far from here," Harold noted.

Desiree asked, "You think I should go to meet him?"

Harold put down the note, his voice calm and steady. Since starting the company, his authority had only grown.

The Harold of today was no longer just an assistant; he was a leader.

"Yeah, go see what he wants. Don't worry; I'll go with you."

A sudden smile lit up Harold's eyes, softening his earlier sternness. Desiree blushed and said, "No need! I can handle this myself."

But despite her words, she didn't turn down Harold's offer.

The next day, she arrived at Universal Studios.

The person who left the note had arranged to meet at an old record store.

Desiree had to search a bit to find the place, and when she did, she saw someone she didn't expect.

"Long time no see. You haven't changed a bit." The man in the suit had a gentle smile, but his sharp features made him look like he was full of it.

Desiree suppressed her shock and said, "Daryl Fields. I thought you went abroad?"

He explained, "I decided to come back recently for some projects. Just worked out that way."

"Oh, I see." Desiree sat down awkwardly and took a sip of coffee, not sure what to say.

Daryl had been a friend once.

But he left for family reasons years ago, and she hadn't heard from him since. Any old friendship was pretty much gone.

So, what could they even talk about?

"This must be from you, right?" Desiree put down her cup, remembering the main issue, and took out the red velvet box. "It's too valuable; I can't accept it."

Daryl stared at her, "Why not?"

"Because..."

Daryl cut her off, "Our families have always been close, and we grew up together. Refusing a small gift like this would hurt our relationship."

Desiree felt like she was sitting on pins and needles. Daryl's direct gaze made her uncomfortable, but he kept talking about their childhood.

She had no good reason to refuse.

Just as she was stuck, the door of the record store opened, and a tall, slender figure walked in. "I think it's inappropriate for her to accept gifts from another man, so please take it back."

"Harold, you're here." Desiree breathed a sigh of relief, feeling at ease.

No matter the situation, as long as Harold was there, she felt safe.

Daryl stared at Harold and asked, "And who are you?"

"He's my boyfriend." Desiree took Harold's arm and smiled. "Daryl, you came back suddenly, so you might not know, but I already have a boyfriend. We're just waiting for my parents' approval, and then we can get married. You'll give us your blessing, right?"

Daryl's eyes darkened, and his fists clenched under the table.

Desiree was sharp and knew how to handle things.

She was using this polite chat to push him away. She'd already figured out his intentions and wasn't having any of it.

Because in Desiree's heart, there was already someone better than him.

The burning jealousy almost made him lose it. Daryl forced a smile and shot back, "Your parents haven't agreed, which means this guy isn't right for you. You've always been like this, only caring about what you want. But what you want might not be what's best for you."

Before Desiree could respond, he got up and left.

The meeting ended on a sour note.

On the way back, Desiree explained her history with Daryl to Harold.

Even though he didn't ask, she knew he cared.

"I only knew him from childhood." As Harold stopped the car, Desiree's hand quietly climbed up his arm and gently tugged, "I didn't tell you before because I didn't know he would come back. You won't blame me, right?"

Harold stayed silent.

Her initial calmness was gone, and she started to get anxious. "Harold, are you mad? I don't..."

Before she could finish, a shadow suddenly covered her, and her lips were captured.

The fresh scent filled her mind, and Desiree was kissed until she was dizzy, feeling that Harold's kiss was more intense than ever.

He was definitely jealous.

But realizing they were in the car, she tried to push Harold away. "Not here, someone might see us."

"They won't." Harold pulled down the car curtain.

Instantly, everything went dark, and without sight, other senses became more acute.

When it was all over, Desiree's hands were too tired to lift.

She angrily punched Harold. "What are you doing, messing around in the car?"

"I pulled the curtain; no one will see," Harold said.

"That's not the point! If someone saw, I'd lose all my dignity!"

Harold coaxed her for a long time before she finally calmed down.

After that, Desiree kept a close eye on things at home, worried that Daryl would go talk to Liam and Tessa.

Liam and Tessa had always liked Daryl.

If he showed interest, Liam and Tessa would likely not refuse him.

Luckily, she kept an eye out for a couple of days and nothing happened.

Just as Desiree was starting to relax, thinking Daryl had given up, one of their long-prepared deals was snatched away.

The partner called Harold early in the morning to apologize, "I'm sorry, but upon further consideration, your company is still too new. Even with the Brown Group backing you, there's no guarantee the project will be completed. To avoid any risks, I prefer to work with a more established company."

The words were final, giving them no chance.

Harold's brow furrowed deeply.

If it were just this one call, he wouldn't have taken it to heart, but then similar calls came one after another, as if they had been coordinated.

And the content of the conversations was invariably about changing their minds.

The company held an emergency meeting, and Oscar also attended.

"Someone must be orchestrating this," Oscar said with absolute certainty. "Otherwise, it's impossible for so many people to change their minds overnight."
