Chapter 807 Her Fatal Weakness

Saskia was as stubborn as ever, convinced that Nathaniel belonged to Azalea.

Nathaniel almost laughed in frustration and shot back, "You keep saying I'm hers, but did you ever bother to ask me what I think, Saskia? Or are you just blind and deaf?"

He grabbed Saskia's hand and pressed it against his chest, the sound of his heartbeat unmistakably clear.

Saskia tried to pull away. "Nathaniel, let go. I've already told you, we're done. There's nothing between us anymore."

"And what about Benjamin? Are you just gonna ignore him too?" Nathaniel hit her weak spot again.

Saskia froze.

Nathaniel sensed her hesitation, and his expression softened a bit, as if he wanted to have a genuine conversation. He said, "Saskia, don't be like this. Just stop pushing me away."

He had nothing with Azalea. She was gone, and while he regretted it, his heart ached more for Saskia.

In the end, Nathaniel was just an ordinary guy with his own desires. He only wanted to hold on to the one he truly loved.

Saskia said, "I still stand by what I said, Nathaniel. We ended a long time ago. Thanks for taking care of me, but I need to go back."

Nathaniel asked, "Saskia, does staying here with me make you that uncomfortable?"

The atmosphere was tense.

Nathaniel had to soften his tone again. "You just recovered. If you want to leave, wait until tomorrow. Where can you go now?"

Saskia fell silent. Even if she didn't want to admit it, Nathaniel was right.

She had been here for so long. It was better to clear the air than to leave in a hurry and seem insincere.

After thinking it through, Saskia stopped talking.

But her silence was enough to frustrate Nathaniel.

"Just stay here and rest. If you don't want to see me, I won't bother you." With that, Nathaniel left the room and called a servant to take care of Saskia.

Saskia lay in bed, unable to sleep. Thinking of Azalea, she felt tears fall once again.

Outside the room, Nathaniel was also in agony.

Separated by a door, they spent the night like that.

The next day, Saskia got ready to go to the hospital.

She brought Benjamin's favorite sandwich, still warm, thinking he would be happy to see it.

But as she approached, she saw a nurse outside the room in a panic. The nurse said, "The patient is having an episode. He's under ten years old, with congenital heart disease. He needs surgery immediately."

The bag fell to the ground.

Saskia rushed forward, grabbing the nurse. "Which patient?" she asked.

The nurse looked at her strangely and pointed to a nearby room. "That one. Let go; this is serious. I need to get there."

Saskia let go, feeling unsteady.

Nathaniel supported her from behind.

"What happened?" he asked.

Saskia replied, "Benjamin, he's having an episode. How could this happen? He was fine not long ago."

Her face was pale.

Nathaniel felt her pain and worry, but all he could do was comfort her. "It's okay. Benjamin's surgery was already scheduled. They've found a suitable heart donor. The surgery will be successful."

It took a while for Saskia to calm down.

Just then, Jade arrived.

Seeing Jade, Saskia pulled away from Nathaniel. She said, "Mrs. Egan, you've been with Benjamin these past few days. Why did he suddenly have an episode?"Jade was just as anxious. "I don't know. He was just playing, and then it happened." She then turned to Nathaniel and asked, "Nathaniel, is Benjamin going to be okay?"

Jade hadn't known about Benjamin before, but once she did, she grew to love him more and more. Over the past few days, she had come to see him as her most precious treasure.

Now that Benjamin was in surgery, Jade was just as worried as Saskia.

Sensing Jade's genuine concern, Saskia felt ashamed of her fleeting suspicion. She said, "I'm sorry, Mrs. Egan. I thought..."

"It's understandable." Jade cast Saskia a complicated glance, recalling the times she had pressured her before. If it weren't for Benjamin, she might still dislike Saskia and not know when she would come around.

"Let's not talk about it. Benjamin's doctor is here," Nathaniel interrupted.

He went to speak with the doctor. It was clear that while Nathaniel was trying to remain confident, he was still extremely worried. His anxiety was no less than Saskia's, even if he didn't show it.

Saskia watched the scene, her feelings mixed.

The surgery began shortly after. Heart transplants took a long time. They waited from noon until night, their eyes weary, while the surgical lights remained illuminated.

Saskia, still recovering, was struggling. Seeing her pale face, Nathaniel frowned and said, "You should go rest. I'll stay here."

Saskia replied, "No, I can't leave. If Benjamin wakes up and doesn't see me, he'll cry."

Nathaniel said, "Even if Benjamin comes out, he won't wake up right away."

Saskia was too stubborn.

Nathaniel had to find another way to persuade her. "Do you want Benjamin to worry?" he asked.

Saskia would reject anything else, but Benjamin was her weak spot.

Sensing her hesitate, Nathaniel pressed on. "Or if you don't want to leave, go to Quincy. I'll ask him to find you a place to rest."

Saskia finally nodded.

Quincy wasn't there, but a nurse noticed Saskia's condition and arranged a room for her. Saskia, who had refused to rest, fell asleep quickly once her head hit the pillow.

Nathaniel smoothed the crease between her brows, unable to bear seeing her frown even in sleep. He stayed with her for a while.

Worried about Benjamin, Nathaniel went back and forth until Benjamin was out of surgery.

Saskia woke up just in time and rushed over. "Doctor, how is Benjamin?"

The doctor smiled at the three anxious family members. He said, "Don't worry; the surgery was a success. Now we just have to watch for any signs of rejection."

Rejection was rare but possible. Still, it was good news.

Saskia breathed a sigh of relief. The tension released, and she felt an urge to cry.

She said, "Thank you."

"Don't thank me. Thank Mr. Egan and yourselves for your patience." With that, the doctor gave Nathaniel a knowing look before he left.

Saskia understood. She knew the efforts Nathaniel had made. The doctor probably realized this, too.

Saskia looked at Nathaniel.

But Nathaniel seemed to ignore her gaze. He said, "Aren't you worried about Benjamin? Go see him."

Putting her thoughts aside, Saskia nodded.

Outside the room, she didn't dare go in, afraid to disturb Benjamin. She watched from the door. She could see a small body on the bed, breathing softly.

She was relieved. Jade was, too. As long as Benjamin was okay.
