Chapter 77 She Suspects Pearl Likes Oscar
Oscar was surprised. "Why didn't you say so last time?"
"Last time, you didn't give me a chance to explain."
Pearl still remembered how he had walked away without looking back last time, not listening to a single word she said.
Oscar had doubts and asked, "If Seraphina wasn't brought here by you, she shouldn't know you. But the first time I saw her, she was already so familiar with you, so you two must know each other."
What she said and did were indeed contradictory.
Fortunately, when she had found Seraphina before, she hadn't fully explained the situation, and no one knew that she had gone to find a replacement for herself.
This gave her an opportunity to make an excuse.
"I have indeed seen her twice," Pearl said. "President Oscar, you asked me to find her. The task you assigned to me, I had to take it seriously."
Oscar found fault in her words. "You didn't find her, so you kept it a secret from me?"
His words left Pearl temporarily unable to refute. She was afraid that Oscar would think she did it on purpose and explained, "I haven't found out enough yet. If that woman really is her, I will bring her here as soon as possible."
In reality, she had no idea why he was furious.
She had always been a diligent and responsible secretary. She would take responsibility, but she wouldn't take responsibility for something that wasn't hers.
She hadn't even considered that she was still his wife.
Oscar adjusted his tie and calmly said, "I understand, you can leave now."
Since she had already said it and Oscar had heard it, she shouldn't be involved if anything happened in the future.
"Okay, President Oscar. Rest well. I will call you when the meal is ready," Pearl said.
She walked out and quietly closed the door.
Oscar stared at the dessert with deep eyes, touched it lightly, and smirked.
Seraphina didn't see Pearl in the kitchen, so she ran over and asked, "Where is Ms. Harris?"
The maid replied, "President Oscar has been in a bad mood lately, and Ms. Harris went to bring him dessert."
This caught Seraphina's attention. "How long has she been gone?"
"About fifteen minutes."
Seraphina fell into deep thought. Pearl cared so much about Oscar's well-being.
As his secretary, did she also have to take care of Oscar's personal life?
Something didn't seem right.
Just then, Pearl came down holding an empty plate. She had already delivered the dessert.
Seraphina fixated her gaze at Pearl, and wondered if being Oscar's secretary and a beautiful one at that, would make Oscar fall for her.
After the food was ready, Pearl went to call Oscar to come eat.
They sat at a table wordlessly, creating an awkward atmosphere.
Finally, Seraphina gathered the courage to break the tension and introduced the food to Pearl, saying, "Ms. Harris, this is the cook's signature dish, spicy and delicious."
Oscar raised his gaze and saw Seraphina talking enthusiastically to Pearl. Noticing there was pepper in the beef, he casually remarked, "She doesn't like eating pepper."
Seraphina's hand stopped in mid-air. Upon hearing him say that, she suddenly felt embarrassed and put her hand back down, saying, "Oh, I didn't know. I'm sorry, Ms. Harris."
"It's okay." Pearl lowered her eyes and placed her sandwich on the plate, and softly said, "You go ahead and eat. There's no need to help me."
Seraphina understood and refrained. If Pearl didn't like it, she wouldn't be so enthusiastic about it anymore.
As she ate her spaghetti, she had concerns in her mind, but her gaze kept drifting toward Oscar. Did he really understand Pearl? Could a boss really know the preferences of their subordinates?
Suddenly, Pearl felt nauseous and couldn't hold it in. She put down her tableware and covered her mouth as she rushed to the restroom.
Seraphina's train of thought was interrupted when she saw Pearl rising from her seat. She exclaimed in shock, "Ms. Harris!"
Before she could finish her sentence, Oscar's expression turned serious as he nervously got up from his chair and walked toward Pearl.
Now, Seraphina was even more surprised and felt a bit disappointed. Could a boss really care this much about their subordinates?
"What's wrong?" Oscar frowned and stood at the restroom door, only to see Pearl hunched over the toilet, retching.
She looked pale and extremely exhausted.
Oscar grew increasingly worried and went to support her, whispering, "Are you feeling really sick?"
Pearl was still vomiting, feeling more nervous with Oscar watching, which made her vomit more forcefully. She could only shake her head.
Oscar had never seen her like this before, and he became even more worried. His voice was low and serious. "We need to go to the hospital."
"No!" Pearl grabbed Oscar's sleeve, her words filled with excitement.
Her reaction was intense, as if she was afraid of going to the hospital. This made Oscar's eyes deepen in thought.
Pearl didn't want him to notice anything strange about her. She calmed herself down, took a tissue to wipe her mouth, and explained, "I have been to the hospital before. I'm just feeling sick in my stomach. The last time it was because of low blood sugar, also because my stomach wasn't feeling well and I hadn't eaten anything. You don't need to worry too much, I just need to rest for a bit."
"Are you sure you're okay?" Oscar asked once again.
"Yes, I'm really fine." Pearl stood up. "You go and have your meal, don't worry about me."
Oscar stared at her pale face, uttered a soft agreement, and did not force her to go to the hospital.
Pearl washed her face before going out. As soon as she sat down, Oscar came over, placed a cup of warm milk in front of her, and said softly, "Have a glass of milk. This is the sweet milk that you like, it will give you some energy, so you won't have low blood sugar again."
There was steam rising from the cup, Pearl held the cup in her hands, and responded, "I will finish it."
Upon hearing her words, Oscar was satisfied.
Seraphina had noticed everything. She realized that their relationship was not just that of a leader and subordinate.
At first, she thought Oscar was just teasing Pearl.
But now she didn't think that was the case.
Besides, she also noticed that when Pearl looked at the milk in the cup, there was a slight smile on her lips.
Was she happy because Oscar remembered her preferences?
Pearl had always been calm and restrained in front of her, rarely smiling.
Does she like Oscar?
Seraphina clenched her fist, thinking about what Pearl had told her. Pearl warned her not to like Oscar, saying she couldn't hold onto him.
Pearl advised her not to like Oscar, but she couldn't help but like him.
Maybe Pearl intentionally said that to discourage her, so that Pearl would have one less competitor.
