Chapter 902 Test
Lyra wanted to rush over and confront Aaron right then and there.
Jeffery stopped her.
"Hold up. If you go now, you won't get what you want. Aaron's in the ICU, still out cold. If you show up, it'll just stir up more trouble."
Lyra finally calmed down.
Every move she made was being watched. The commotion in the hospital had died down, but there were still so many eyes on her.
She hadn't cleared her name yet.
Until Aaron woke up, she couldn't get close. If anything happened, the blame would fall on her again.
Lyra sat back down, covering her face in frustration for a moment. "Thanks. I wasn't thinking straight."
She paused and looked at him.
"Good thing you're here."
Jeffery's eyes softened slightly. After a moment, he said, "You're my chosen assistant. Of course, I'll help you. Don't worry, we just need to do a urine test."
But even something that simple wasn't easy.
When they mentioned doing a urine test for Aaron, Elowen fiercely objected. "You can't do any tests on Aaron. Lyra, if you have any conscience left, send this man away!"
Lyra frowned. "We're just here to do a test. Why are you so determined to stop us?"
"He ended up like this because of you. Who's going to believe anything you say?"
Seeing that she wouldn't let Jeffery leave, Elowen raised her voice, shouting to the people around them. "Everyone, look! It's her! Our adopted daughter, who put my son in the hospital just a few days ago. And now she wants to harm him again!"
People gathered around.
Someone recognized Lyra and started pointing. "I know her. It's true. I heard she got mad over something and put him in the hospital. He's still not awake."
"What an ungrateful wretch!"
"See, this is why you shouldn't adopt daughters. People always want sons because they'll take care of you when you're old. They already had a son, and they still adopted a daughter. Just asking for trouble."
The chaotic voices filled Lyra's ears, but they no longer hurt her.
After hearing such things so many times, she realized it was just noise.
The main reason was that Lyra wasn't alone.
Jeffery looked at Elowen coldly. He wasn't as patient as Lyra. "This is a hospital. Following medical advice is basic. Besides, we need to cooperate with the police investigation."
"If you don't like it, you can move your son out of the hospital. That would free up a bed for someone else."
Jeffery's words were sharp and unyielding.
Elowen's face turned grim. "You! You're the director. How can you not care about my son's life?"
Jeffery's lips curled into a mocking smile. "Why should I care about his life? I'm not his father."
His words stunned everyone, including Lyra.
Jeffery's eyes were cold, and it was the first time Lyra realized how ruthless his words could be.
But it felt good.
"You two are in this together. You and this ungrateful wretch want to harm Aaron. I won't let you through. If you want to get past, you'll have to step over my body!" Elowen blocked the door.
Jeffery moved immediately.
Elowen thought he was serious and dodged.
Jeffery retracted his foot, hands in his pockets, his white coat giving him a carefree look. "If I really stepped on you, you'd just complain."
Elowen's face turned even grimmer.
A nurse stepped forward and pulled her away.
Lyra followed Jeffery into the room.
Elowen's eyes fell on the bed. "Aaron, you're awake?"
She stared at Aaron, full of surprise and confusion.
How could he be awake without anyone saying anything? There were supposed to be nurses watching him.
Jeffery's face grew colder. He turned to the nurse behind him. "Who's on duty?"
The nurse lowered her head. "Wilhelmina."
"She doesn't need to come back."
Jeffery's words were final; no one dared to speak.
Aaron's eyes flashed with panic but quickly steadied. "What are you doing here? Haven't you done enough? This is a hospital. Don't cause trouble."
He glanced at Jeffery behind her, his tone full of mockery.
"If someone dies, not even your lover can protect you."
Lyra was furious. "Aaron, watch your mouth. If you can't speak properly, I can teach you."
"You dare talk back to me now? You've got some nerve." Aaron's expression darkened.
Jeffery was already having the nurse prepare.
Lyra glanced at him and didn't waste words. "Get up. Time for the test."
Aaron refused; why should he cooperate?
He lazily looked at Lyra. "You want me to take the test? Fine. Serve me, and I'll get up. You've done it plenty of times before, haven't you?"
Lyra wanted to shove the test tube down his throat.
Disgusting!
She took a deep breath. Just then, a slender hand grabbed Aaron.
Aaron started yelling. "What are you doing? Let go of me. I'm a patient. Is this how you treat patients?"
Jeffery ignored him, dragging him to the bathroom and locking the door.
Aaron pounded on the door.
Jeffery's voice was cold and clear. "If you want out, use the toilet and cooperate."
Aaron cursed for a while but realized no amount of yelling would get him out. He finally gave in.
The nurse took the urine sample for testing.
Jeffery let Aaron out, his expression calm, showing no sign of his earlier forcefulness.
Lyra's heart stirred slightly.
It felt like something inside her had been touched.
But for now, it was a small change. Maybe in the future, it would lead to something bigger.
The test results came back quickly.
Lyra glanced at them; it was just as Jeffery had expected.
To be sure, they also did a blood test, which confirmed the same results.
Jeffery looked at her. "Now you can confront him."
Lyra's smile was bitter. She no longer had the heart for it.
The facts were clear. What was the point of asking? What she had given was already lost.
"Call the police." She put down the test results, her voice firm.
For the first time, Lyra was decisive about the Hill family matters.
Jeffery raised an eyebrow, a bit surprised.
But he said nothing, calling the police. The officers came and took the test results.
