Chapter 232 Anxious and Distraught

Pearl glanced down and saw blood on her pants. Her face went pale.

She'd felt a bit off since yesterday, but work had kept her too busy to notice.

Not knowing any better, she brushed off the discomfort until the pain got worse.

Instinctively, she clutched her stomach, doubling over, her face ashen and cold sweat breaking out.

The moment Oscar saw the blood, his expression changed. He rushed over and grabbed her. "Pearl!"

Pearl was in so much pain she was about to pass out. Only now did she realize how serious it was, and the pain doubled. She clutched Oscar's arm. "The baby..."

Oscar scooped her up. "You'll be fine. I'm taking you to the hospital!"

"Harold, get the car!"

Harold, freaked out, quickly opened the car door.

Oscar placed Pearl in the car and got in, resting her head on his lap. Seeing her so pale, he was worried sick. "Don't be scared. You'll be fine. I won't let anything happen to you!"

Seeing all the blood, he realized he'd never seen her bleed this much. The pain she must be feeling was unimaginable.

Harold floored it, speeding down the road.

Pearl was drenched in cold sweat, her lips colorless. She held Oscar's hand tightly, her eyes full of determination.

The pain and worry made her nails dig into his flesh. She gritted her teeth. "Oscar, save the baby. Don't let anything happen to him!"

This was her only request—not to harm the baby. She feared he wouldn't save it.

Oscar looked into her eyes. There was longing, pleading, and deep resentment. She couldn't accept the situation.

But Oscar stayed silent. To him, a miscarriage would be a relief. He didn't want her to keep the baby. He was more worried about her health.

Seeing his silence, Pearl gripped him harder. "Did you hear me? Save my baby!"

Oscar hesitated, then said softly, "I'll save you!"

Pearl looked into his eyes, knowing how heartless he could be.

She grabbed his collar with all her strength, veins bulging, her head covered in cold sweat. "No, save the baby, Oscar. I've been by your side for seven years and never asked for anything. Just save this baby because he..."

The pain was too much. Pearl couldn't hold on and fainted before finishing her sentence.

"What were you saying?" Oscar didn't hear clearly.

"Pearl. Pearl!"

Seeing her lose consciousness, Oscar's heart tightened. He shook her, calling her name.

Pearl didn't respond.

"Faster, drive faster!"

Oscar couldn't feel her pain, but he sensed it. He gripped her hand tightly, almost shouting.

He wished they could reach the hospital immediately.

Luckily, Harold was a skilled driver, running several red lights, and they finally arrived at the hospital.

Oscar quickly carried Pearl out, shouting, "Doctor, doctor!"

A nurse immediately wheeled out a bed.

Oscar hurriedly placed Pearl on the stretcher. Seeing her pale face, he felt a sharp pain in his chest. He told the nurse, "Save her please. You must save her!"

"We understand, sir. Don't worry, we'll do our best!" the nurse reassured him.

Oscar followed them to the operating room. Watching Pearl being wheeled in, he could only stand at the door, feeling like the sky was falling. Suddenly, he remembered something and shouted, "Save her, and save her baby!"

As the doors closed, Oscar's world darkened.

He stood there, breathing heavily, sweat pouring from his head, his chest heaving. It felt like countless strings were pulling at his heart, making it hard to breathe.

He felt a twinge of fear. Fear for Pearl's well-being. Fear that she would resent him if she lost the child.

At that moment, he realized that even though he couldn't accept the baby, he was more afraid of losing Pearl.

Oscar remained silent. He sat on a nearby chair, head bowed, his face full of worry. His palms were sweating with anxiety.

Harold rushed over, his phone ringing incessantly.

Harold knew Oscar was worried about Pearl and didn't want to take any calls.

As his subordinate, he still had to report.

"Mr. Brown, there's a call."

Oscar didn't even glance at it. "Don't answer!"

Seeing the caller ID, Harold said nothing more and hung up.

On the other end, Mae tried to reach Oscar but the call was rejected. She turned to Haley. "Haley, Mr. Brown isn't answering."

Haley, putting on earrings, said, "That's odd. He knows about the premiere event; I was just calling to remind him. Why isn't he picking up?"

Recently, Haley wouldn't contact Oscar unless necessary.

After what he said last time, Haley understood. She couldn't let him develop feelings of aversion.

Haley had Mae make the call to maintain some distance.

Moreover, Haley knew what was most important to Oscar. He had been with Pearl for many years and couldn't bear to part with her, but he should be even more reluctant to give up his business and ambitions.

These were things Haley could help him with. What Pearl used to help him with, Haley could also assist with. Over time, he would realize this.

Mae complained, "He must be entangled with Pearl again."

Haley added, "I heard from Hathaway that Pearl has already moved out. It seems like divorce is imminent."

Haley even thought that with Pearl gone, there would be no more contact between them.

Mae continued, "I heard from others that Mr. Brown went to find Pearl. He visits her whenever he has time. I don't understand how Mr. Brown could be so bewitched by Pearl!"

Mae couldn't understand why Oscar would ignore Haley and go after Pearl instead.

Upon hearing this, Haley snapped her lipstick in half in frustration!

Haley thought Pearl would leave Oscar soon, but Oscar was still entangled with Pearl, causing her sleepless nights.

Haley was furious inside but showed no expression on her face. She capped the broken lipstick and threw it away. "It's okay, let him go."

Mae, seeing Haley's calmness, wanted to say more, but Haley interrupted, "Get me a coat. I'm cold."

Mae had no choice but to fetch the coat.

After Mae left, Haley unlocked her phone and sent a message: [What has Pearl been up to lately?]

The reply came: [She was working at the TV station.]

Seeing the message, Haley paused. After leaving Oscar, Pearl went to work at a TV station.

Haley couldn't figure out what Pearl was thinking.

After a while, another message came: [It seems like she got pregnant.]
