Chapter 411 Louis and RavenWing Are More Than Just Acquaintances
A kid spotted Louis and waved excitedly. "Mr. Mitchell!"
Pearl glanced over.
Louis was in a black shirt, top two buttons undone, sleeves rolled up.
He stood in the sunlight, one hand in his pocket, holding a few books, eyes unreadable.
But he had a slight smile.
In no time, the kids around Pearl ran to Louis.
"Mr. Mitchell, she said we read it wrong! Didn't you say this is how it's read?"
"Mr. Mitchell, we only listen to you!"
"Mr. Mitchell, who is she?"
Some kids glared at Pearl.
Suddenly, Ricardo Ortega, one of the boys, threw a stone at Pearl.
Pearl dodged, but Louis rushed over.
The stone hit Louis on the thigh.
Louis's face turned serious. "Ricardo, what have I taught you?"
Ricardo looked down. "Mr. Mitchell, you always teach us to be kind and not use force."
Louis wasn't only a teacher but also a role model for the locals.
Otherwise, Pearl and Miguel wouldn't have been allowed in the village.
Miguel was from Eldorians, which made it harder.
Ricardo grumbled, "Mr. Mitchell, you're our only teacher. Who is she?"
He shouted in Eldorians.
Oddly, Pearl understood his angry words. Miguel had taught her some basic phrases.
She had studied more on her own and found Eldorian not too hard to pick up.
Louis said firmly, "Even if she's not a teacher, if she corrects you, listen. I won't always be here. Now, apologize."
Ricardo reluctantly walked to Pearl. He muttered in broken English, "Sorry."
"It's okay. Now that Mr. Mitchell is here, he can explain it to you."
She stayed friendly.
'Louis stayed to teach these kids, so he couldn't be wrong. But he defended them and admitted he might not always be right.'
Pearl couldn't link him to RavenWing.
But she couldn't keep watching him.
Pearl left with Juan and worked with Miguel to fix the school. Miguel was silent, not speaking to Pearl.
Soon, Pearl heard the kids reading.
She couldn't believe how well-protected the village was!
"This is our lunch today," Juan suddenly said, and handed Pearl a charred potato.
"Thank you," Pearl said in Eldorians.
She was sitting on a brick, peeling the potato, when a shadow loomed over her.
Looking up, she saw Louis standing there.
Louis smiled gently. "The kids are young, and I'm the only teacher. Sorry about earlier."
He sat down next to Pearl and handed her a piece of cheesecake.
Pearl didn't take it. "Ricardo already apologized."
"He only did because of me. If you hadn't dodged, he would've hit you." Louis kept holding out the cheesecake. "I don't think I know your name yet."
"My name is Pearl."
Pearl knew she was being watched but still gave her name. RavenWing's people were after her, so hiding her name seemed pointless.
Louis's smile stayed gentle.
He placed the cheesecake in her hand. "This place is chaotic. Why are you here? I noticed you seem to understand Eldorians. Can you speak it too?"
Louis's voice was kind, but Pearl knew he was testing her.
She smiled. "I was sold here. I just picked up a few phrases."
A breeze blew, and Pearl brushed her hair back, revealing a cross bracelet that sparkled in the sunlight.
Louis composed himself and smiled. "The kids call me Mr. Mitchell. My name is Louis."
"I'll be gone for a while. Since you're here, you can teach the kids English. I'll pay you according to Tranquiloria's standards. If you need anything, let me know, and I'll bring it back."
Pearl's gut told her Louis was an alias. He seemed nice, but RavenWing was bad news.
Pearl smiled, hiding her true feelings. "The kids only recognize you as their teacher."
"It's okay, I'll explain it to them. Don't worry."
"Alright, you don't need to pay me. Just let me stay here. Also, I need a charger."
In this dangerous place, Louis moved freely, showing his high status. He was more than just acquainted with RavenWing.
"I'll get it for you later." Louis seemed gentle and courteous.
No wonder the kids loved him and the Eldorians respected him.
"Thank you."
Pearl instinctively thanked him.
Louis stood up and left.
After he left, Pearl finished her roasted potato.
Seeing Miguel approach, she offered him the cheesecake, but he glared at her. "Didn't you hear Juan say he knows RavenWing? How can you eat what he gives you and chat so happily with him?"
Miguel knocked the cheesecake out of Pearl’s hand onto the ground.
