Chapter 383 We Truly Wish for Your Happiness in Life

"And besides, he didn't come home. I get mad and vent because he let Haley out, which he can handle, right? But he always leaves. Even when he comes to find me, he agrees to let me go. Isn't that him letting go?" Pearl got it, and tears started to well up.

She held back, thinking it was enough to cry alone. She didn't want anyone else to see her like this.

Janetta was confused too. "Go back for a few days and see what he says. Maybe he respects your decision and is scared you'll resent him for trying to keep you. Men and women think differently, but as long as there's love and understanding, it's not a problem."

"Yeah, it's not a problem," Pearl said with a bitter smile. "But he needs to compromise for me at least once."

"Stop overthinking. Go home and get some sleep. You'll feel better tomorrow," Janetta comforted her.

Pearl didn't say anything more. She felt sad but had to accept reality.

Just like when they got divorced, she got through it the same way.

"Oscar, Ms. Harris has left."

Oscar stood there for a long time, staring where Pearl had gone, not reacting.

Nicholas, unable to bear seeing him so down, wanted to remind him.

Oscar snapped out of it and looked at him. "Let's go back."

His voice was indifferent, like he had lost his soul. Nicholas then said, "Oscar, forgive me, but if you can't let go of Ms. Harris, why not say a few kind words and try to make it up to her? Ms. Harris understands you and would go back with you. It's better than this. I can't stand seeing this outcome!"

It wasn't just their hearts aching. Nicholas wished more than anything for them to be together forever.

If he loved Pearl, he would do anything to keep her.

Oscar was thinking about more than just that. He was considering how long he could be with her.

Oscar got into the car, remarkably composed. "If she comes home with me, how long can I be with her? What if one day I hurt her? She's pregnant now. If anything happens, she'll hate me for life. I'm not afraid of her hating me but of her getting hurt. I'm even more afraid that I won't be the hero in her heart anymore."

With too many concerns, he had to leave some dignity in her heart.

"Oscar, there will be a way. There must be a solution," Nicholas comforted him, knowing how hard it was for him now.

They were incredibly busy.

They not only had to find an antidote but also had other things to handle. It was really difficult to manage everything.

Oscar also thought, 'The poison I had was different from Pearl's. I wouldn't die, but I would live a life worse than death.'

Jeffery had told Oscar about this. While researching the antidote, he could only help one person, who was undoubtedly Pearl.

Even though Oscar didn't say it, Jeffery would have made the same choice. But Oscar still asked him to devote all his efforts to Pearl.

Oscar thought, 'As long as I'm alive, there's hope.'

Pearl went back, once again disappointed, but she didn't want to tell her parents.

She had made her choice clear from the beginning. If she ever regretted it or wasn't doing well, they would definitely be concerned.

Kittie saw her and sighed, "Your belly is so big now. Looks like you're due any day. You didn't even tell us you were pregnant. Are we the last to know?"

Her parents had their complaints too.

She was still their daughter. No matter how much they grumbled, they still cherished her. Plus, they were going to be grandparents.

They had always hoped Pearl would have a child. When they were gone, the child would be there for Pearl, which was a comfort.

So they accepted it.

"No, Mom," Pearl said. "I wasn’t ready to tell you then. I’m really sorry."

Evans stood at the door, seeing only Janetta, and immediately guessed. "Did you have another fight with Oscar?"

He guessed right, but Pearl didn't want to face it. "Can't I just come home? It's not like I haven't lived here before. You all keep guessing and saying things that make me unhappy."

"We're just worried about you," Kittie said. "We want you to be happy. You're pregnant. If you really suffer any grievances, Evans and I would be heartbroken. So we want to know everything clearly. Otherwise, we won't feel at ease."

"No, I just wanted to come back and see you." Pearl still didn't tell the truth. She wanted to leave some dignity for Oscar. If she told them, her parents would definitely hold a grudge, and their impression of Oscar would worsen. She still wanted to protect Oscar's image.

"That's good." Kittie had tested Oscar. If he made Pearl suffer within three days, she had misjudged him.

Kittie also became very cautious when asking about their relationship.

Janetta brought Pearl back, chatted with them for a while, and then left.

They wanted her to stay, but Janetta had things to do and couldn't stay.

Then they warmly saw Janetta off.

"Do you want to eat something now?" Kittie asked her again. "You're pregnant and get hungry easily. If you want to eat something, I'll make it for you right away."

"No need, Mom." Pearl immediately grabbed her hand and then looked at Evans. "Dad, you sit down too."

Evans listened to her and sat down next to Kittie.

"Have you picked a name for the baby?" Evans was very happy and looking forward to the arrival of his grandchild. He chatted with Pearl, "If you haven't , you should start thinking. Otherwise, there won't be enough time when the baby is born!"

Kittie also said happily, "Yes, when you were born, Evans spent hours researching names, delving into their meanings and origins, to find the perfect one for you. As a mother, you should be prepared too."

"Okay," Pearl responded softly.

"Will the baby have the last name Brown or Harris?" Kittie continued. "I think Harris sounds nice."

Pearl sat with them, wanting to ask a question. Amid their cheerful mood, she asked, "Mom, Dad, I wasn't kidnapped in middle school. It happened in high school. Why didn't you tell me?"

Her question left Kittie and Evans momentarily speechless, their faces growing tense.

Evans was the first to react. "Who told you that?"

Pearl said, "No one. I discovered that I lost a part of my memory. You also kept it from me. Does this have anything to do with you?"

Pearl was starting to distrust others, including her parents.

In her past life, Evans had chosen to deceive her.

Kittie and Evans exchanged a glance. "Pearl, we didn't tell you for your own good. We were afraid you'd be traumatized again. Evans and I only have you. Of course, we want you to live happily. Since you didn't want to remember, we didn't dare to bring it up."
