Chapter 616 How Much Are You Offering

"Yeah, totally. They like Janetta, and knowing she's in trouble, they'll definitely help out. Plus, we're not asking for charity, right?" Savannah's words gave Damian a glimmer of hope. After finding an excuse to send Savannah away, he headed to Janetta's hospital room.

The moment Janetta saw him, she got defensive. "What are you doing here? I don't want to see you. Leave, or I'll jump out of here."

Damian didn't move closer. He just stood at the door and said, "I've arranged the kidney transplant, and I got those paintings back. Once you agree, I'll set up the exhibition."

"No need. Mr. Clark, you don't have to worry about my business." Janetta's icy tone crushed Damian's bit of hope.

After staring at her for a bit, Damian scribbled down an address and phone number on a piece of paper, left it on the armrest of the sofa by the door, and walked out.

Janetta didn't care, as long as Damian stayed out of her way. What he did didn't matter to her.

Henry came rushing into the room, panicking when he saw the door open. Seeing Janetta playing on her phone, he let out a sigh of relief.

With his sharp eyes, he spotted the note, picked it up, and asked, "Who wrote this? Are they trying to sell a kidney to pay for their kid's college?"

Janetta ignored him, pulled the blanket over her head, and shut him out.

Without an answer, Henry went to find a nurse. When he learned Damian had just left, Henry put two and two together.

He immediately went to find Damian to confirm the note's authenticity. If it was legit, Janetta could be saved.

At the hospital room door, he ran into Savannah.

"What are you doing here? This isn't Janetta's room," Savannah said loudly, clearly for Damian inside to hear.

Henry snorted and tried to open the door, but Savannah stopped him. He glared at her angrily.

Savannah didn't flinch. When she saw the note in his hand, she got it. She cleared her throat and asked, "Mr. Doe, you want to see my husband?"

Henry stayed silent.

She smiled and said, "If that's the case, then I was being rude. Go ahead."

Henry shot her a cold look and pushed the door open.

Watching him go, Savannah hatched another plan. She pulled out her phone and made a call. When the call connected, she instructed, "Keep a close eye on it. No mistakes."

After giving the instructions, she didn't go into the room but left the hospital.

Inside, Henry coldly asked Damian, "Is this note real?"

Damian nodded and calmly said, "You need to take her there. That family owes Janetta a favor. If she asks, they'll agree to the kidney transplant."

"Did you just tell her about this?" Henry asked, suspicious.

Damian smirked, "Don't you want to save Janetta?"

"That's not what I mean," Henry denied.

"Then why are you doubting when there's hope?"

Henry's mouth twitched, speechless. Damian felt victorious and smug.

After a moment, Henry left.

Outside the room, he immediately called the number on the note. When he learned the other party was indeed planning to sell a kidney, he quickly returned to Janetta's room.

As soon as he walked in, Henry announced, "The note is real. We're leaving right now."

Janetta looked at him, totally confused. A kidney transplant was no small thing, and she had already started to accept her fate, not wanting to fight it anymore.

Henry walked over, scooped her up, and headed out.

Janetta yelled, "What are you doing? Put me down!"

Nurses and patients stared as they passed, making Janetta feel embarrassed, but Henry didn't care.

Once they were in the car, Janetta fumed, "Do you think this will make me feel grateful?"

Henry started the car and said, "You got it wrong. I just want you to live. Now that there's hope, I don't want to waste it."

With that, he sped up, running red lights all the way to the south side of town.

When they found the address on the note, they were both shocked to see a run-down house.

It looked more like an abandoned property than a small business owner's place.

"Stay behind me," Henry said, shielding Janetta as he knocked on the door.

The door creaked open slowly. The courtyard was clean, and an old woman was hanging clothes.

Henry asked, "Hello, is this Gabriel Miller's home?"

The old woman stopped, turned around slowly, and squinted at them for a long time. Finally, she nodded. "Gabriel is my husband. What do you want with him?"

Henry looked relieved and pulled Janetta inside. He introduced Janetta and explained why they were there.

The old woman got excited, dropped the clothes, and circled Janetta twice. "You look just the same, you haven't changed at all."

She then shouted into the house, "Gabriel, come quickly. Our benefactor is here. Hurry."

After a few minutes, they heard the sound of a cane tapping, and a hunched old man shuffled out. "Are you Ms. Clark?"

Gabriel's hands trembled with excitement as he approached Janetta.

Janetta nodded. "Yes, it's me."

"Great! Finally seeing you. Come in and have a seat," Gabriel said enthusiastically, pulling Janetta inside.

Henry quickly stopped him, awkwardly looking at the old woman, hoping she'd take Gabriel away. Instead, she invited Janetta in for tea. They didn't have time for tea; the priority was the kidney transplant.

Henry said, "I heard you want to sell something. Name your price, and we'll buy it."

Gabriel and the old woman exchanged a sad look.

Henry felt a pang of guilt but pressed on for Janetta's sake.

Gabriel sighed, "We do want to sell something, but at least come inside to talk, right?"

He wobbled as if about to fall, and Henry quickly supported him.

Feeling Gabriel's frail arm, Henry frowned but didn't show it and nodded in agreement.

They went inside, and Gabriel instructed the old woman to make tea while he entertained Janetta and Henry.

"Ms. Clark, you're not used to hard benches, right? I got you two cushions, please use them," Gabriel said, handing them two brand-new cushions from somewhere.
