Chapter 738 Why Push Me Away
Louis was speechless; he just held Jimena close until the doctor came in.
The doctor handed Louis the report and said, "The results are in. She's anemic and malnourished, probably from overdoing it lately."
"Overdoing it?" Louis muttered, thinking about all the stuff Jimena had been helping him with.
If he had known it would lead to this, he would've pulled all-nighters himself and never let Jimena help.
Would the baby have been okay if Jimena hadn't helped out?
Thinking about it, Louis couldn't help but ask, "Did the miscarriage happen because she was overworked?"
"It played a part, but it's not the only reason. It also depends on the parents' health. Since the baby is a mix of both parents, any health issues from either side can affect it," the doctor explained.
In some old-school families, when something went wrong with the baby, the first reaction was to blame the mom.
But that wasn't fair to her.
"I get it. Thanks. Can you prescribe some supplements to help her recover?" Louis just wanted Jimena to get better.
Jimena, though, was worried about something else.
She asked the doctor, "Since this was a natural miscarriage, can I still get pregnant? I read online that some people are prone to miscarriages, and if it happens once, it might happen again. Multiple miscarriages can sometimes lead to infertility."
If that were true, it would crush Jimena. She didn't dare hope for a second or third child; even having just one would make her truly happy.
"You're still young. If you take care of your health, getting pregnant shouldn't be a problem. But I recommend focusing on your well-being for at least six months before trying again. A healthy body will support a more stable pregnancy," the doctor reassured her.
Hearing this, Jimena didn't catch much of what the doctor said next.
She was lost in her sorrow, thinking about the worst-case scenario over and over.
What if she really couldn't carry a pregnancy to term?
After the doctor left, Louis sat down next to Jimena. "Jimena, let's focus on some positive things."
"What if I can't get pregnant? What will you do?" Jimena looked up at him.
She looked into Louis's eyes, speaking with utmost seriousness. "I know you love kids, and you need an heir. If I can't give you a child, you should find someone else."
Saying those words felt like tearing her heart apart.
Jimena truly loved Louis, and they both knew it well.
Hearing her words, Louis frowned. "Jimena, I know you're upset, but you can't say things like that. How can you even suggest I go to another woman?""But I can't even give you a child. You were so excited about this baby. The doctor said it's partly because of my health. I can't be a mother. Is it fair to deny you the chance to be a father too?" Jimena wiped away her tears.
Seeing this, Louis kissed her fiercely, his kisses raining down on her.
Then he told her, "The doctor said it's a health issue, and it's not just about you. Besides, it's not like we can't have kids together. Why are you pushing me away now?"
Louis knew Jimena wasn't usually like this. The overwhelming sorrow had clouded her mind, making her act and speak irrationally.
But he had enough patience to stay by her side and help her recover.
"We will have kids. Trust me, I have a good feeling about this," Louis reassured her over and over.
Yet Jimena still had her worries. "What if we don't?"
"Then we don't. Pearl has kids—she's my sister, and we're family. Her kids are enough, right? We can travel the world together once we retire, visit all sorts of places." Louis loved kids, but he also appreciated the beauty of just the two of them.
If they could spend their whole lives together, just the two of them, wouldn't that be a kind of deep happiness as well?
With his reassurance, Jimena gradually let go of her worries.
She stayed in the hospital to recover, while Louis went back to work, forgetting to call Pearl.
Meanwhile, on Pearl's side, Oscar had a light workday, so the family of four went to visit RavenWing.
As soon as they walked in, RavenWing noticed Oscar holding Emily.
Oscar held Emily with practiced ease, clearly used to it.
Seeing this, RavenWing felt reassured. "What brings all four of you here today? Suddenly, this room feels so small with all of you here," he said.
When it was just him, the room felt empty and cold.
"Let's switch to a VIP room. That way, when we visit, the kids can play freely," Pearl suggested.
VIP rooms were much better, not just bigger but also better equipped.
Yet RavenWing shook his head and replied, "No need for that. I'll be out of here in a couple of days. No point in moving."
"You're being discharged?" Pearl felt a heavy weight settle in her chest.
She could see that he was serious. He truly intended to stop treatment and keep it a secret for as long as he could.
That wouldn't do.
But if she confronted him directly, he might become more stubborn. She needed to come up with a different strategy.
"Getting discharged isn't so bad; there's no place like home," Pearl said casually. "I don't know what Emily's deal is—every time she visits the hospital, she looks so wide-eyed and curious."
Hearing this, RavenWing looked at Emily.
Emily, playing along, was looking around curiously. Seeing her interest, RavenWing relented. "Maybe I don't need to rush out. I'll stay a few more days and ask about a VIP room. That way, Christopher can play with his blocks when he visits."
