Chapter 786 The One Who Should Die Is Me
Nathaniel grabbed his keys and headed out the door. His assistant saw him and immediately asked, "Mr. Egan, where are you going? I need to adjust your schedule."
"Don't worry about it. Cancel everything this afternoon," Nathaniel said, striding towards the parking lot. As he sat in his car, he couldn't help but berate himself.
What was he doing? Chasing after Saskia because of something she said?
After much hesitation, he decided to go see her.
Meanwhile, in a black car nearby, two men with menacing faces were watching. One of them nudged his companion. "Is that him?"
The man, who had been texting, looked up sharply. Seeing Nathaniel in the luxury car ahead, he gritted his teeth and nodded. "That's him. He's the one who got my son a heavy sentence. I'd recognize him anywhere."
Another man said, "He's driving alone now. Isn't this the perfect chance?"
The two men quickly agreed. The driver discreetly followed Nathaniel's car, while the passenger kept making phone calls, seemingly calling for backup.
Nathaniel finally found Tranquil Time Café, which was quite secluded. When he entered, Saskia was nowhere to be seen. He frowned deeply, his lips pressed into a thin line.
Was Saskia playing him again?
Anger started to well up inside Nathaniel, but when he turned around, he saw Saskia right behind him. Saskia, unsure of Azalea's intentions, reluctantly stepped forward.
"Last night you threatened to call the cops, and today this?" Nathaniel scoffed. "Saskia, what game are you playing now?"
Saskia couldn't find the words to respond. After a moment, she gestured inside. "Let's talk inside."
Nathaniel's expression was complex as he stared at her. "Saskia, why did you ask me to come here today? What's your real motive?"
"I just want to talk," Saskia said hesitantly. What was there to talk about after all these years? Their past was a mess, and now they were practically enemies.
"Saskia, do you think it's fun to mess with people?" Nathaniel, frustrated by her hesitation, turned to leave.
Fearing that Azalea might harm Benjamin if Nathaniel left, Saskia rushed forward and grabbed Nathaniel's arm. "Don't go!"
Nathaniel sneered. "Saskia, what do you want?"
Saskia couldn't give a clear answer. Nathaniel tried to leave again, but Saskia held on tightly. At this, Nathaniel remarked, "Fine, I won't go if you beg me and explain everything that happened back then."
"Consider this me begging you," Saskia said, biting her lip.
Just then, the screech of brakes sounded nearby, and several burly men rushed out. Sensing danger, Nathaniel instinctively pushed Saskia aside. "Run!"
Saskia quickly realized these men were after Nathaniel. As a lawyer, he must have made enemies. Before Saskia could react, the men were upon them. Nathaniel fought back, but he was outnumbered and they were clearly prepared.
Chaos erupted outside the café. Saskia watched in terror, but when one of the men aimed a knife at Nathaniel, she jumped in to shield Nathaniel.
Nathaniel was stunned that she would take a knife for him. As he processed this, Saskia grabbed his hand, pleading, "Nathaniel, please help me save my child."
When Saskia woke up, she was in a hospital. The first thing she did was message Azalea.
Saskia: [Azalea, if someone has to die, let it be me. Don't hurt Benjamin. He's innocent. You're his favorite aunt.]
Azalea, consumed by grief, was unmoved. Her child was gone, while Saskia and Nathaniel's child was fine. If Saskia had truly cared, she would have told Azalea about Nathaniel's identity from the start. Instead, she watched Azalea fall for him.
Now, Azalea had nothing. Her child was gone, and Nathaniel didn't care about her. It was all because of Saskia. Even if it killed her, Azalea wanted Saskia to suffer.
"Aunt Azalea, how long are we staying here? I miss Mom. Did I do something wrong? Why are you ignoring me?" Benjamin's innocent questions tugged at Azalea's conscience. Benjamin was innocent.
Azalea asked, "Benjamin, if your mom and I had a falling out, who would you choose? Would you still talk to me?"
Azalea could be ruthless with Saskia, but she couldn't stay cold towards Benjamin, her beloved nephew. She had always taken care of him, even using her first paycheck to cover his medical bills.
Benjamin, sensing her distress, hugged her. "Aunt Azalea, I want you to be happy. Don't cry."
Azalea remarked, "But Benjamin, I can't have any more children. Things will never be the same with your mom. I can't be strong anymore."
