Chapter 823 Stay and Accompany Me
Saskia had a habit of waking up in the middle of the night.
When she stumbled into the living room in the dark, she was startled by a shadowy figure. It took her a moment to realize it was Nathaniel. "Nathaniel, why are you sitting here instead of sleeping?"
Nathaniel let out a low grunt, barely audible.
She thought she might have misheard him.
It wasn't until Saskia walked closer that she noticed the thin layer of sweat on Nathaniel's forehead and his noticeably pale face.
"Are you feeling unwell?"
"Get me some antacid," Nathaniel's voice sounded almost normal, but there was a hint of weakness.
Saskia suddenly remembered that Nathaniel had chronic stomach issues that flared up from time to time.
It was because he was always so busy with work.
Thinking of this, Saskia became anxious. She paced around the living room before recalling that she might have a box of antacids in her room. "I think I have some in my room. Wait here, I'll get them for you."
She quickly prepared some warm water and brought the antacid to him.
After drinking a glass of warm water, Nathaniel's furrowed brows relaxed a bit.
"Feeling any better?" Saskia asked nervously.
Nathaniel gave a barely perceptible nod.
She sighed in relief, then went to prepare another glass of warm water and fetched her own hot water bottle.
"Heat might help. Try putting this on your stomach."
"You want me to use this?" Nathaniel hesitated, eyeing the pink pig-shaped hot water bottle.
Saskia shoved it into his hands. "At a time like this, don't worry about how it looks. Just use it, it'll help."
Nathaniel's illness had scared away most of Saskia's sleepiness.
She took care of him for a long time, only dozing off on the couch in the early hours of the morning.
When she woke up, she found a blanket covering her.
Oh no, she had fallen asleep.
She jumped up to check on Nathaniel.
To her dismay, he had developed a fever.
"He's burning up and didn't say a word," Saskia muttered, withdrawing her hand from his forehead. The heat shocked her, filling her with both anger and concern.
She felt sorry for Nathaniel, who had suffered so much in one night, and angry that he hadn't said anything about being sick.
But now, Nathaniel was too feverish to listen to her.
She couldn't scold a sick person, so she resigned herself to taking care of him.
She wiped the sweat from his forehead with a warm towel and helped him take some medicine.
When Nathaniel opened his eyes, they were filled with confusion, lacking their usual sharpness. "Saskia, am I dreaming?"
"No, you have a fever. Take your medicine," Saskia said, feeling a pang of sadness.
She knew that during the years she had been away, Nathaniel might have had a hard time, though he rarely mentioned it.
Nathaniel never showed any vulnerability.
This side of him only appeared when he was delirious with fever.
After taking the medicine, Saskia urged him to go back to sleep.
But Nathaniel held onto her hand, not letting her leave.
Saskia sighed, trying to soften her voice. "Why are you holding onto me? I have to work for you tomorrow. If I can't get up, will you compensate me?"
"I'll compensate you, so stay with me," Nathaniel replied, surprisingly coherent.
Saskia wondered if he was faking his illness.
But the thermometer didn't lie. Nathaniel was genuinely sick, likely with a fever caused by his stomach issues.
It was also because he hadn't been resting properly while working on the Egan Group's project.
Thinking about it, Saskia felt even more sympathetic.
She had seen how hard Nathaniel had worked for the Egan Group over the past few days, which was why she had been so upset when she learned about Robbie's actions.
He must be feeling so hurt.
"Alright, I'll stay with you," Saskia relented.
It was just keeping a sick person company. If Nathaniel didn't get better, he probably wouldn't be able to go to work the next day anyway.
Hearing Saskia agree to stay, Nathaniel's grip loosened slightly.
Saskia ended up staying on the couch, covered with a blanket, keeping him company until morning.
Nathaniel never let go of her hand.
...
The next day, Saskia was woken by some noise.
She opened her eyes to find herself on the couch and instinctively looked to her side, but it was already empty.
A housekeeper brought breakfast over.
"Do you know where the person who was next to me went?" Saskia asked.
The housekeeper, who had arrived early, should know where Nathaniel had gone.
The housekeeper paused. "Mr. Egan left early. He told me not to wake you. He also took Benjamin to school and said you could take the day off."
Saskia frowned and checked her phone.
Seeing the time, she nearly fell off the couch.
It was already ten in the morning. She was two hours late.
So Nathaniel had been sick all night, then got up to take Benjamin to school and went to work?
Saskia felt a wave of guilt.
After quickly finishing her breakfast, she rushed to the office.
Her assistant was surprised to see her. "Ms. Fuller, why are you here? Mr. Egan said you were taking the day off. I thought you weren't coming in."
Saskia had recently started working as Nathaniel's secretary.
"Are you heading out?" It was hard to explain, so Saskia asked, noticing his hurried demeanor.
She learned from the assistant that he was going to visit a heart patient at the hospital.
It was the elderly person who had been used as an excuse by the people in the old town.
"Mr. Egan ordered us to finish this project as soon as possible, so we have to speed things up," the assistant said, shaking his head.
Saskia didn't respond.
She thought of Nathaniel's confrontation with Robbie the day before.
With the public pressure mounting, Nathaniel probably wanted to resolve the issue quickly.
"Can I come with you?" Saskia asked.
Seeing the assistant hesitate, she quickly found a reason and managed to persuade him.
At Serenity Health Center.
While the assistant spoke with the nurse, Saskia went ahead to visit the patient.
On her way, she ran into Jeffery.
Seeing his familiar white coat and the people following him, she paused. "Are you heading to surgery?"
Jeffery stopped and spoke briefly to the people with him before they left.
"No, just going to a lecture. Why are you at the hospital? Is something wrong with Benjamin?" Jeffery immediately thought of Benjamin's heart transplant.
"Benjamin is fine. I'm here for work," Saskia shook her head.
Jeffery didn't ask further.
Knowing he was in a hurry, Saskia didn't keep him long.
But before leaving, she remembered Nathaniel's condition from the night before and couldn't help but ask, "By the way, can you give me some tips for stomach care? I have a friend who is always busy with work, doesn't have time to eat or rest properly, and has chronic stomach issues."
"Can you prescribe some medicine or give me some health tips?"
