Chapter 855 Not Just a Cover-Up

Nathaniel decided to skip the office that day.

He nudged Saskia, "It's time. Let's get going."

Saskia hurried out, carrying Benjamin. "I'm coming."

Seeing her looking so radiant, Nathaniel smiled and said, "You get more beautiful every day."

Saskia rolled her eyes playfully. "When did you become so smooth-talking?"

Nathaniel chuckled, "You just don't realize how stunning you are."

Saskia sighed, "Alright, let's go."

Nathaniel was about to get in the car, but paused, checking out his outfit. "Nope, this doesn't match yours. We don't look like a couple."

"Are you seriously gonna change?" Saskia raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah, help me pick something." Nathaniel grinned.

Unable to argue with him, they went back upstairs. Nathaniel picked an outfit that matched hers, and after checking himself in the mirror, he was satisfied.

"Perfect, now we look like a family."

They went downstairs with Benjamin and got into the car.

They didn't notice Jade watching them with a hint of longing on her face.

After they left, Jade approached the driver who was switching shifts.

"Where did they go with Benjamin?"

"They went to a photo studio," the driver replied.

"Take me there too," Jade said, guessing they were going to take family photos. She felt a mix of anticipation and hesitation as she got into the car.

They arrived at the photo studio in the afternoon. The studio was spacious, and since they had a VIP appointment, the photographer greeted them warmly. "This way, please. This area is perfect for family portraits."

They followed him, finding various scenes set up.

"Alright, let's have the three of you sit together for the first shot," the photographer directed.

Jade arrived just in time to see them happily taking photos, looking like a peaceful, content family.

If she hadn't interfered years ago, she might have been part of this scene too. But the past left shadows in everyone's hearts, making acceptance difficult. She lowered her head, sighing, her eyes filled with longing but hesitant to approach.

The photographer continued directing, "Alright, parents, hold the child closer."

As Saskia adjusted her position, she looked up and saw Jade standing outside, watching them with envy.

She paused, then turned to Nathaniel. "Mom's here."

Nathaniel glanced over, saying nothing.

Saskia got up and walked to the door, inviting, "Mom, why don't you join us for the family photo?"

Jade was taken aback, her eyes glistening with tears. "Really?"

"Of course, you're Benjamin's grandmother," Saskia said with a warm smile. "It's only fitting for us to take a family photo together."

Jade's face lit up with joy as she quickly walked in.

Saskia linked arms with her, and they sat down with Nathaniel and Benjamin. Jade felt an overwhelming sense of happiness.

"Thank you, Saskia."

Saskia just smiled, saying nothing.

The past wounds couldn't be healed overnight, but for the sake of the family, she maintained a peaceful facade.

"Benjamin, give Grandma a kiss?" Jade asked, holding the child.

Benjamin shook his head, "No!"

Jade's face showed a hint of hurt, but she understood it would take time for full acceptance. She didn't push it. "Let's just take the photo."

The photographer was about to continue when a commotion erupted outside.

Annoyed, he went to the door and shouted, "Quiet down!"

Suddenly, a crazed man burst in, grabbing the photographer's equipment and smashing it to the ground.

Everyone was stunned. Saskia instinctively shielded Benjamin.

Seeing the happy family, the madman became even more enraged, charging at them, shouting, "Why do you get to be so happy? Why?"

Saskia quickly hid Benjamin behind her, not caring about herself.

Nathaniel reacted swiftly, pushing Saskia and Benjamin aside, standing in front of them.

His body tensed, ready to face the attack.

But the madman, seeing a strong man in his way, hesitated, then bypassed Nathaniel to go after Saskia.

Saskia screamed, watching the knife coming towards her. Nathaniel couldn't react in time to stop it.

In that critical moment, Jade suddenly jumped in front of Saskia.

The knife slashed down, and the sound of it cutting into flesh filled the air, along with the smell of blood.

Saskia couldn't believe what she was seeing.

"Mom!"

Fortunately, the wound was on Jade's back, not hitting any vital organs.

The madman, seeing their happiness, became even more frenzied, raising the knife to continue his attack.

Nathaniel rushed forward, grabbing the madman's wrist, and they struggled.

Saskia tended to Jade, who, despite the pain, remained conscious. "Don't worry about me, go help Nathaniel."

Saskia turned to see Nathaniel and the madman grappling, the knife dangerously close.

Nathaniel managed to pin the madman down, knee on his chest.

Even restrained, the madman clung to the knife. Saskia, fearing for Nathaniel, rushed to disarm him, nearly breaking his fingers to get the knife away.

Just then, the police arrived, subduing the madman.

"Let me go! Let me go!" He screamed.

Saskia finally turned her attention to Jade. "Mom, are you okay? We need to get you to a hospital."

"It's just a scratch," Jade waved it off.

"Let me see." Saskia checked the wound. Jade's thick clothing had absorbed most of the impact, and the bleeding had stopped.

Saskia sighed in relief but was still shaken. She couldn't believe Jade had protected her.

"Mom, why did you do that?"

"Saskia, since you married Nathaniel, I've considered you family," Jade said sincerely, patting her hand.
