Chapter 143: Trouble

Pearl's heart immediately sank.

Pearl still concealed it. "I'm not. I just ate something different at work and wanted something more familiar."

Kittie had asked Pearl about her marriage before, and Pearl had mentioned about divorcing Oscar. If Kittie found out she was pregnant, she would definitely nag about it.

Kittie advised. "It's best if you're not pregnant. After all, you've made a decision. Being pregnant at this time will make things difficult."

Kittie wanted to say more, but Evans gave her a meaningful look.

Evans urged Pearl. "Pearl, eat more. Whatever happens is up to the both of you to both decide."

"Okay." Pearl nodded.

Being pregnant, Pearl's appetite changed, and she easily felt sleepy. After eating, she felt drowsy. Just as Pearl was thinking of going back to her room to lie down, Harold called her.

"Ms. Pearl, Mr. Brown is drunk."

Pearl couldn't ignore it.

"Where is he?"

Harold said, "Sarah and I are taking him to Serenity Haven Estates."

Upon hearing Sarah's name, Pearl was momentarily stunned.

Oscar had gone to meet the head of the Johnson Group, but he had only taken Harold with him.

"Alright, I'll come over right away." Pearl didn't inquire further.

At that moment, Pearl felt no drowsiness.

Pearl came out of the room, and Kittie had prepared hamburgers and lamb for her, with a homemade tomato sauce.

"Weren't you asleep?"

Kittie saw Pearl coming out and asked in surprise.

Pearl nodded. "I just went in to get something. I have something urgent to attend to."

Kittie sighed. "You were so busy yesterday! Take these with you!"

Because they were going to Serenity Haven Estates, Pearl had no choice but to take them.

With two full bags, they hailed a taxi at the door.

Pearl got in and told the driver to speed up.

In less than forty minutes, the driver stopped the car at the entrance of Serenity Haven Estates.

Pearl carried the things inside.

Just as she passed the entrance, Pearl caught a faint scent of roses.

The next moment, Pearl saw Sarah holding a glass of grapefruit juice in front of Oscar.

Oscar would usually take omeprazole after drinking outside.

Privately, Pearl would prepare grapefruit juice to help Oscar sober up. The grapefruit juice Pearl made would include a touch of Cannes rose petals.

Sarah had seen Pearl's notes, which contained detailed instructions on making it.

"Mr. Brown, this is the grapefruit juice I made following Pearl's instructions. Please taste it."

Sarah's voice interrupted Pearl's thoughts. Pearl saw Oscar, who was usually very picky about food, accepting the grapefruit juice from Sarah.

Oscar drank it. He even commented, "It tastes good."

Sarah was pleased. "I felt happy to hear that, Mr. Brown."

Pearl's notes were indeed valuable.

This scene happened to be witnessed by Pearl.

Pearl didn't know how to describe her feelings at that moment.

Sarah was someone Pearl had chosen from many applicants, and her ability to cater to Oscar was a good thing. Moreover, Sarah was a college graduate who excelled in all aspects.

With Sarah's current behavior, she would only make Oscar more and more appreciative of her.

"Pearl, you're here!"

The first to notice Pearl was Sarah. With Sarah calling out, Oscar noticed Pearl standing at the entrance.

Oscar said, "You and Harold continue to negotiate with the head of the Johnson Group. Pearl, you stay here."

No one could say anything about Oscar's arrangement.

As soon as Sarah left, Oscar's eyes fell on Pearl. "Where did you bring so many things from?"

Because the bags were transparent, only some packaged food could be seen.

Pearl said, "I got them from my parents."

"Didn't you go to meet Adrian?" Oscar asked.

At that moment, Oscar showed no signs of being drunk. It seemed that Sarah's learning and execution abilities were indeed strong.

Pearl remained calm. "He has his own matters, and we're not that free."

With that, Pearl carried the two large bags and headed for the kitchen.

Since she was going to stay at Serenity Haven Estates for a while, Pearl didn't say much.

After Pearl had put away the things, Oscar nodded towards her. "Come here."

Pearl didn't want to argue with Oscar, so she quickly walked over to him.

Oscar reached out, and in the next moment, he pulled her into his arms.

The strong smell of alcohol immediately filled the air.

It made Pearl extremely uncomfortable.

Frowning, Pearl said, "The smell of alcohol is too strong. How about I go prepare a bath for you?"

Pearl tried to create some distance between herself and Oscar, but his hand landed lightly on Pearl's chin, exerting a slight pressure.

With a low, mocking laugh, Oscar said, "What will we do after the bath?"

Pearl pursed her lips. "I've had a busy day, I want to rest."

"Just like that?" Oscar raised an eyebrow.

Pearl nodded.

"Do you now feel that with Sarah around, you can just leave?" he asked in a husky voice.

Pearl remained silent. She did think so, but Oscar didn't give her the chance.

Not wanting to argue with him, Pearl said, "No, you called for me, and I'm here. My mom gave me some food, so let me know if you want to eat."

In the past, Oscar would eat a few bites of what Kittie made.

By saying this, Pearl made it clear that she didn't want to get too involved with Oscar.

"Did Sarah make the grapefruit juice following your instructions?" Oscar furrowed his brows.

"No, she learned it on her own," Pearl said. After all, she had only given Sarah a notebook. The specifics were all up to Sarah's interpretation.

Oscar chuckled. "If you didn't teach her, how did she learn? If I remember correctly, only you put rose petals in the grapefruit juice."

This was Pearl's unique way of making grapefruit juice.

Sour and sweet, it was very good for sobering someone up.

Pearl pursed her lips. "She's now your secretary. I have to instruct her on certain matters."

Oscar lightly laughed. "So you're grooming her?"

According to Pearl, she had given quite a few instructions.

Pearl denied it. "I'm not grooming her. She needs to understand your preferences, after all, she's the one who will be by your side in the long run to assist you."

The truth of Pearl's words couldn't be denied.

A hint of displeasure appeared at the corner of Oscar's mouth. "When you hired Sarah, did you get my approval?"

Pearl asked, "Didn't you say that I should handle everything before I leave? Isn't Sarah doing well?"

"If she's doing well, does that mean I have to keep her?" Oscar frowned.

Pearl pursed her lips and continued. "That's up to you."

As the CEO, if Oscar wanted to dismiss Sarah, Pearl couldn't say much.

"I have a lot of engagements recently and don't want to deal with others for the time being. You'd better stay by my side." Oscar held Pearl's waist, and his sudden movement made Pearl particularly uneasy.
