Chapter 229 I Agree to Divorce You

Pearl tried to hold it in, but her sensitive nose got the best of her, and she started retching.

Elliott was chatting with her when he noticed her reaction. "Pearl, you okay?" he asked, concerned.

Pearl couldn't hold it any longer. She covered her mouth and rushed to the restroom.

Elliott was puzzled. 'Only pregnant women reacted like this, right?'

His expression shifted multiple times before he finally followed her to the restroom door.

Pearl vomited for what felt like forever. The pregnancy symptoms were getting stronger.

Afterward, she washed her face and came out. Elliott handed her a tissue.

"Thanks," she said, taking it.

"Why are you vomiting so badly? Are you pregnant?" Elliott asked.

"Yeah, you figured it out," Pearl admitted.

Elliott was surprised. It hadn't been that long since he last saw her, and now she was pregnant. "Congrats! I didn't expect this. You even have a kid now."

He thought it was good news.

But Pearl just smiled and changed the subject. "Let's talk about something else."

Elliott noticed she didn't want to mention the child's father. For whatever reason, he didn't press further.

He looked at her thin figure, working hard even while pregnant. 'Could her pregnancy be why she resigned? She'd rather take a lower job than stay at the Brown Group. Something must've happened.'

Elliott felt a bit sympathetic. Pearl had limited options, and with her belly growing, she'd still have to work hard every day. It was pitiful.

He immediately instructed his assistant, Oliver, "Go buy some things for me."

"Yes, Mr. Reid," Oliver said and left.

Pearl followed the photographer to finish her work. Whenever she smelled something fishy, she'd cover her nose, frown, and try to suppress her nausea.

"Elliott," Pearl said, closing her notebook. "The TV station has a new project. Just giving you a heads-up. If you're interested, we can discuss it further."

"Alright, but let's not discuss work now. You need to rest." Elliott noticed she didn't look well.

"It's fine," Pearl insisted. "Work is important." She couldn't afford to slack off.

She still had drafts to write when she got back.

Elliott followed her, keeping a close eye on her. Suddenly, Pearl felt dizzy, and Elliott instinctively supported her. "I told you, you need to rest. Pregnant women need more rest."

Before he could finish, someone grabbed Elliott's hand, pulling it tightly and painfully. Then, before Elliott could react, a fist landed on his face.

Elliott was knocked to the ground.

"Mr. Reid!" Oliver was shocked and immediately went to help Elliott.

Pearl was still dizzy, just sensing something was wrong.

Oscar looked down at Elliott on the ground, his face dark and angry. "Are you Magee? Is the child in her belly yours?" he demanded.

Elliott, not knowing what had happened, was punched, and his cheek instantly bruised. He saw Oscar standing in front of him. "Mr. Brown, I..."

Oscar grabbed his collar, lifted him up, and punched him again.

Pearl's dizziness had just passed when she saw Oscar throw another punch. Her face changed dramatically. "Oscar, what are you doing?"

Oscar, holding onto Elliott, questioned Pearl, "Is this the lover you've been fond of for years?"

"Let him go!" Pearl saw that Elliott's mouth was bleeding and shouted loudly.

Pearl's protection of Elliott made Oscar even angrier. He sneered, "You care about him. Do you want to see me hit him again?"

Oscar kicked Elliott directly.

Elliott didn't even have time to speak before he was kicked to the ground again.

Pearl was stunned and quickly went to help Elliott up.

Oscar grabbed her and shouted, "How dare you care about him?"

Pearl looked at Oscar, furious, and pushed his hand away. "You're being unreasonable. Elliott is my new business partner!"

"I don't believe you," Oscar said sternly. "He was just supporting you, caring about your child, and even prepared things for a pregnant woman. If he's not your lover, who is he? Why would he care so much about you? Are you lying to me again?"

"When did I lie to you?"

"Haven't you lied to me?" Oscar was even angrier. "You arranged to meet me, but you weren't there. What's the deal with Chloe being there?"

At the mention of this, Pearl couldn't justify herself and said, "I admit, I used you in this matter. We'll talk about our issues later. Let's check on Elliott's injuries first."

"You still care about him!" Every word Pearl said angered Oscar.

Elliott was bleeding from his nose, holding it and saying, "It's okay. You two talk. There is some misunderstanding."

Pearl was still angry, not understanding Oscar's impulsiveness, and couldn't continue talking to him. "Elliott, I'm sorry for getting you hurt and involved. I'll take you to treat your wounds first, and then I'll apologize to you!"

"It's fine. I can go by myself. Mr. Brown might have misunderstood. You two should talk it out," Elliott said, supported by Oliver as he walked away.

Pearl was worried about him, but seeing Oscar, who could erupt at any moment, she hesitated and stopped in her tracks, her gaze fixed on Elliott.

"Pearl, don't you owe me an explanation?" Oscar looked at Pearl coldly.

"What explanation do you need?"

"Is this man the father of the child or not?" Oscar was suspicious, doubting every man he saw.

Magee in Pearl's heart was the father of the child, but who could Magee be?

Pearl said, "No!"

"I can't believe you anymore!" Oscar didn't want to be deceived by Pearl.

"Then what do you want?"

"You ask me what I want to do? What do you want?" Oscar said to her. "I thought you had come to your senses, but you had Chloe drink with me. Pearl, do you love me or not?"

Pearl looked at him, seeing his face full of anger, so different from his usual calm demeanor, and said faintly, "You're right. I don't love you. So I don't care which woman is with you. Do you know why Chloe was there and why I lied to you? Because I care more about my work. Everyone looks out for themselves, and I just happened to disappoint you. When I become ruthless, I can even use you!"

Oscar grabbed Pearl's collar, his hand tightening, his eyes filled with anger as he looked at her. "Do you know what you're saying?"

Pearl stood on tiptoe, her eyes stubborn, and she struggled to say to him, "I did it on purpose, Oscar. Stop wasting your time. I want a divorce!"

Hearing her resolute words, with even her gaze icy and unyielding, Oscar's once fiery heart turned cold. He released Pearl, full of disappointment. "Fine, I agree to divorce you!"
