Chapter 461 Poisoning
Pearl stayed quiet, but she knew something or someone was way more complicated than they seemed.
Louis whispered, "Don't think about anything else. I have plans tonight. If you need anything, go to Giovanni."
Pearl stayed silent, feeling groggy and replaying Louis's words and old memories in her head.
Suddenly, in the middle of the night, someone covered her mouth. She tried to fight back, but they were too strong.
Meanwhile, Oscar woke up with a start.
"Mr. Brown, dreaming about Ms. Harris?" Elijah asked, noticing Oscar's sudden movement.
Oscar was drenched in sweat and didn't respond, confirming Elijah's suspicion.
Oscar didn't care about anything else. He told Elijah, "Keep an eye on the troops. Report anything to the higher-ups. If they want to punish me, I'll take it."
He wasn't scared of punishment, just of Pearl dying.
Elijah knew he couldn't stop Oscar. "Don't worry, Mr. Brown. I'll keep the troops in line."
Pearl woke up groggy in a dimly lit room full ofthe smell of formaldehyde in the air. She sensed someone approaching but realized she was bound and couldn't move.
She felt pain from an injection. "Kevin?" she frowned, a bad feeling rising.
The only ones who could do this on RavenWing's turf were Kevin or RavenWing.
Suddenly, the room lit up. Laughter echoed, and a man appeared, looking a lot like Haley.
It was Kevin.
"Didn't expect you to be so smart. But you're still in my hands. If you hadn't come here, you might've survived."
Donald had drugged her, thinking she was doomed, but she survived. Kevin had other plans and didn't want to deal with her back home. But Pearl came to Eldorians, so he had to act.
Pearl smirked. "So what if I'm in your hands? You'll die too."
Everyone dies eventually. Kevin's time would come.
"Threatening me? You're not that important," Kevin scoffed.
Pearl was given a pill. Kevin stared at her like a predator. "Can't wait to see everyone's reaction when you're a test subject."
Kevin left. Pearl didn't panic. She wasn't scared of being captured by Kevin. She'd find a way to escape.
She also realized something about her relationship with RavenWing.
Kevin intercepted Louis's three DNA test results. Keeping Pearl around felt like having a ticking time bomb, and Louis's attitude towards her was also a concern.
That night, Carol found Louis. While rewarding the Eldorians, she offered him a drink. After drinking, Louis spat out blood.
Carol turned pale. "Louis! What's wrong?"
Louis squinted at her, scanning the crowd. For the poisoned drink to reach him, it had to be someone close.
He grabbed Carol's wrist, a cold smile on his lips. "What do you think?"
"Louis, I'm innocent! How could I harm you?" Carol looked innocent.
RavenWing stepped forward. "Louis, you can suspect anyone, but Carol is your sister."
"Is that so?" Louis took a step towards RavenWing but collapsed. Carol caught him.
Louis wanted to push her away but was too weak. He lost consciousness.
Louis was taken away, and RavenWing ended the banquet.
Carol stayed by Louis's side, taking care of him. RavenWing noticed her dedication.
RavenWing understood the complexity of his relationship with Louis, including bringing Carol back and his indulgence towards her. Louis's dislike for Carol was understandable.
"Carol, don't take Louis's words to heart. I know you've always wanted to get along with him. I'm investigating. I'll clear your name in front of Louis."
He patted Carol's head.
Carol had been separated from him for over ten years; he wasn't a good father.
Carol nodded. "Okay."
She began to massage RavenWing's back. "Does this feel good?"
"Your birthday is less than a week away. What do you want?" RavenWing patted her hand. He needed to find out who was behind the poisoning but had planned a special birthday party for her.
Carol's voice was soft. "I want to stay with you and Louis. I want Louis to like me, and I want you to be healthy."
RavenWing's heart sank. He didn't expect her thoughts to be so pure.
He smiled. "Carol, all your wishes will come true."
Later, Carol stayed by Louis's side all night. He didn't wake up until Kevin came. "No need to stay here. Go back to your room and rest."
"It was you who poisoned him..."
Kevin coldly interrupted, "Yes. Louis has realized the problem. Should we wait for him to expose you as a fake in front of RavenWing?"
Carol was speechless.
"I'll have someone watch over Louis. You just need to keep up appearances. I have big plans for your birthday party."
"I understand."
Carol didn't have the right to refuse. But she needed to do something rather than just stand there being scolded by Kevin.
After they left, Louis suddenly opened his eyes.
Giovanni walked up. "Mr. Mitchell, what should we do next?"
