Chapter 645 Devil's Love

Desiree could tell Harold was worried, so she gave him a reassuring smile. "Don't stress; I'll be right back. If I'm not back after you chat with Sebastian, come find me."

Harold finally let her go.

The cruise ship was massive, and it took Desiree a bit to locate the restroom.

The restrooms were ridiculously fancy, like something out of a palace.

The walls sparkled, the sink had a mirror with intricate designs around the edges, and everything screamed luxury.

Desiree washed her hands and was about to leave when she paused at the door.

"Desiree, fancy seeing you here."

She looked up and saw Daryl standing there.

"What are you doing here?" She instantly regretted asking. Of course, if Bronte was here, her son Daryl would be too.

Daryl just smiled, his dark eyes giving her a look that made her uneasy. "You really haven't changed."

Desiree frowned, ready to tell him to stop bringing up the past. It was over, so why keep talking about it?

But Daryl seemed to read her mind and switched topics. "I heard there's a rare gemstone at today's auction, carved by some famous foreign designer. They call it Devil's Love. Sounds creepy, but it's just an amethyst. The designer's just being dramatic."

The hallway light cast shadows on Daryl's face, making his features look even sharper.

It was almost dizzying.

Desiree frowned harder, not wanting to stick around.

"I'm not into gemstones. Thanks for the info, but I gotta go." She walked off without looking back.

Soon, a guy in a suit approached Daryl and bowed. "Mr. Fields, everything's set. When the auction starts, that person will approach Miss Sandvik."

"Good," Daryl replied, his tone much colder now.

It seemed like he only smiled around Desiree.

The assistant didn't dare look at Daryl's face, feeling a chill just from being near him, and secretly felt bad for Desiree.

Daryl adjusted his cuff and suddenly asked, "Is the auction ready?"

"Yes," the assistant nodded. "We'll bid directly. Don't worry, Mr. Fields; we've already talked to the organizer. We'll get that gemstone."

Daryl didn't say anything else.

Desiree walked quickly, like she was being chased by something dangerous.

Thinking about the dark, intense look Daryl had given her, she shivered.

Why couldn't Daryl just leave her alone?

Childhood things were supposed to stay in the past. But someone kept bringing them up.

In her rush, Desiree accidentally bumped into someone coming out of a private room.

This was the internal hallway, just outside was the main hall. In the long hallway, couples were all over each other, sneaking into private rooms. It was pretty obvious what they were up to.

Desiree noticed the person coming out, reeking of perfume and booze. She wanted no part of it.

She quickly apologized and tried to move past.

"Hey! You think you can just say sorry and walk away after bumping into me? No way!" A hand grabbed her roughly.

Desiree yelped as she was slammed against the wall.

The guy seemed to sober up a bit and took a good look at her.

His eyes lit up. "You're pretty cute. How much for a night? I'll take you!"

He was clearly mistaking her for one of the women trying to snag a rich guy on the cruise.

But Desiree wasn't one of them.

"Get lost! Do you even know who you're messing with? You think you can just make a move on me?" Desiree stomped on his foot, and as he gasped in pain, she lifted her skirt and bolted.

The guy shouted and chased after her. "Bitch, how dare you attack me? I'll kill you today!"

The door of the private room he came out of opened, and a bunch of bodyguards rushed out, filling the hallway.

The guy desperately ordered them to catch her.

But Desiree was too fast.

They couldn't believe how quickly she was running in high heels.

In no time, Desiree reached a corner, dashed out, and entered the main hall.

But those guys still wouldn't let her go. Two of them grabbed her arms and lifted her up.

The fat guy, who had been stomped on, ran over, panting. "Run again."

Desiree sneered, "Catch your breath before you talk."

The fat guy got angry and immediately ordered his men to drag her out.

But before they could move, there were screams, and his bodyguards were thrown aside.

"Desiree!"

Desiree's eyes softened when she saw Harold rushing towards her, her eyes reddening slightly. "Didn't I tell you to come quickly after talking with Sebastian? Why are you so late?"

"I'm sorry." Harold hugged her, his heart aching.

His gaze fell on her swollen ankle, and his eyes instantly turned icy.

"And who are you? I have a special relationship with the auction organizer." The fat guy pointed at Desiree, threatening, "This woman has offended me. If you protect her, you'll both be thrown into the sea to feed the fish!"

"The one who will be fed to the fish is you." Daryl walked into the hall with a cold face.

The fat guy's expression changed immediately upon seeing him, his face full of flattery. "Mr. Fields, do you know her? Oh, if I had known you know her, I wouldn't have made a fuss. This is all a misunderstanding. Don't stand there. Didn't you see Mr. Fields come in?"

Daryl ignored the fat guy's flattery and glanced at his assistant, who immediately dragged the man away.

The fat guy's pleas for mercy echoed through the hall.
