Chapter 486 Help Needed Here

"I don't need it. I'm heading out and won't have time to spend money," Pearl said, refusing it anyway.

Evans replied seriously, "Pearl, you said we're always your parents, right? We're family, and it's normal for parents to give money to their kids."

"Pearl, you'll have expenses over there. Think about the poor, injured kids and the elderly. Won't you want to help them?" Evans added softly.

He wasn't as upset as before. Though he still didn't want Pearl to leave, he understood her better now.

Pearl was speechless, not expecting them to think of this.

Kittie chimed in, "Take it. It's a small token from Evans and me. When you help others, God will bless you. We both hope you come back safely."

"Okay," Pearl finally agreed and took the bank cards.

Initially, she wanted to keep her plans from Evans and Kittie, but she realized they'd worry if they couldn't find her. It was better to be honest.

Who would've thought Evans and Kittie would understand her? If she didn't take the money, they wouldn't be at ease.

Everyone enjoyed the meal.

Evans and Kittie told Pearl, "When you get there, take lots of photos for us. Call whenever you can, and come back whenever you want. Just don't let yourself suffer, okay?"

Pearl nodded.

Though they were ordinary and not as wealthy as RavenWing, to Pearl, they were the best parents in the world.

Since Pearl was going to a war zone as a correspondent, she couldn't take much with her. Evans and Kittie had given her all the advice they could.

In the end, they watched Pearl leave.

On the way back, Pearl told Barbara, "I have my own thing to do, so you don't need to follow me. Go follow your dreams and be with the one you love."

"Pearl, what are you talking about?" Barbara was stunned. "You're going to a war zone. I can be part of any plan you have. Why are you pushing me away?"

Barbara's eyes welled up with tears.

Pearl smiled. "I'm not pushing you away. You have your own life. You and Elijah like each other. When you get married, if I have time, I'll come back for your wedding."

"Pearl, how can you joke like that? Elijah and I aren't even together yet. But you can't push me away. I didn't recognize you back then and injected you with poison under Donald's orders. Later, I didn't protect you well and we got separated..."

"Barbara, you've done very well. Don't blame yourself; you've suffered a lot."

Before Barbara could finish, Pearl hugged her, patting her back.

When she rescued Barbara from the slave camp, Barbara was covered in scars and had lost her memory. One could only imagine how much Barbara had suffered!

Barbara hadn't blamed Pearl back then, and she wouldn't blame her now.

"What are you talking about? You're going to be a war correspondent, and I can stay by your side to protect you. If you're in danger, I can help."

Barbara wanted to be there for Pearl, but Pearl preferred to go alone. She knew Barbara meant well, but she couldn't let her stay all the time.

"Barbara, you have your own life. Don't worry, I made this decision knowing I could protect myself."

Barbara knew Pearl well. Once Pearl made up her mind, she wouldn't change it easily.

She didn't argue with Pearl, but privately, she was determined to stay close. She felt she owed it to Oscar and herself, and there was also Jeffery to consider.

After settling everything, Pearl set off for Serenea.

Five years later, in the war-torn northern region of Serenea, Pearl was capturing the aftermath with her camera. The situation had escalated from a small conflict to a full-blown war, with ambitious countries trying to annex Serenea.

The place was in ruins, with countless casualties.

Pearl was about to do a report when she noticed a group of children with vacant, uneasy eyes.

One of them, Christopher Stewart, stood out. His white shirt was stained and tattered, but his eyes were bright.

The army marched in, and the children waved desperately. "Help! Help me!"

Pearl recognized the local Serenea army and peacekeeping forces from other countries.

The soldiers helped the children, but Christopher stood still, not responding to their questions.

"Come here," one soldier said in English. Christopher didn't respond, but the soldier wiped his face clean.

"He's from Tranquiloria. Notify the Tranquiloria troops to come and get him," the soldier said.

A soldier noticed Pearl. "That's a journalist from Tranquiloria!"

Pearl was called over, and a soldier approached her.

Before she could speak, the Serenea soldier said, "We have other tasks. Since you're here, please take this child to the local embassy. They'll make arrangements."

"Okay," Pearl agreed and walked towards Christopher.

Serenea, besides the homeland, had the largest population of Tranquiloria citizens in the world. Since she was called out and he was a fellow countryman, and a child, she couldn't ignore him.

She approached Christopher and said in English, "Hello, I'll take you to a safe place. Don't be afraid, I'm a journalist."

Pearl spoke gently, but Christopher remained silent. She noticed his back was covered in torn clothes.

Pearl couldn't bear it and took off her coat, draping it over Christopher.

At first, Christopher struggled, but then he gradually calmed down.
