Chapter 570 Seeking Compensation

"You just wait and see," Oscar said with a sly grin, leading Pearl into the office.

Before they could even sit down, the secretary knocked and came in, looking all jittery at Archie but too scared to say anything.

"Spit it out," Archie said.

"Marvin's downstairs, trash-talking Mr. Davies to the reporters." Before she could finish, Archie was already on his feet, ready to confront Marvin.

Oscar grabbed him and said, "Dude, you stole his girl. A little trash talk is nothing; he lost his shot at happiness."

Archie paused, then laughed. "Yeah, if it makes him feel better, let him yap. No biggie."

The press conference felt kinda forced, but it was all part of Oscar's plan.

As the secretary led the reporters to the first-floor reception room, Oscar, Archie, and Pearl made their way downstairs. They could hear Marvin still badmouthing Archie before they even got there.

Exchanging looks, they shook their heads in disbelief.

Oscar pushed open the door and walked in first. The noisy room went dead silent, except for their footsteps.

"Isn't that Mrs. Brown? Pearl, right? Why's she here? Shouldn't Magdalen be here?"

"No clue, maybe Magdalen chickened out and sent her instead."

People whispered about Pearl, but Oscar and the crew acted like they didn't hear. After they sat down, the secretary handed out gifts.

The murmurs got louder, and everyone was waiting for Archie to say something.

Oscar spoke up first, "Everyone knows Mr. Davies had an accident at my company, and he requires an explanation. Actually..."

"Mr. Brown, just tell us what you're gonna do," Archie cut him off, giving Oscar a look.

Ignoring him, Archie turned to the reporters and said loudly, "Do you know what kind of drug I was given? An aphrodisiac. Everyone knows what that does. Mr. Brown, what were you trying to do? Embarrass me or make your employee hook up with me?"

The room exploded.

Oscar's face darkened, and he squeezed Pearl's hand.

Pearl realized Archie was gunning for the Brown Group and tried to get the secretary to call Magdalen, but Oscar stopped her.

Pearl pointed at her phone, showing a headline she just saw.

Oscar nodded, then shook his head, saying nothing.

"Mr. Davies, before you seek explanation, can you clear up your relationship with Magdalen? I heard you used to bug her a lot," Marvin stood up, glaring at Archie.

"Mr. Davies, is that true? Is Magdalen not here 'cause she's scared of you?"

"Mr. Davies, I heard you once took Magdalen to the hospital. What's up with that?"

All eyes were on Archie, giving Oscar his chance.

Oscar nodded to the secretary, and after she left, he kicked Archie.

"What the hell, man?" Archie was already pissed that Oscar wasn't backing him up against Marvin. When Oscar kicked him, he lost it.

The crowd was stunned, watching the drama unfold in silence.

Oscar looked troubled and said, "I had no idea you took Magdalen to the hospital. When was this? What happened to her, or what did you do to her? Mr. Davies, I need an explanation. Otherwise, even if I can't take on the Davies family, I'll fight for Magdalen's justice."

"You!" Archie was at a loss for words. Oscar was playing dirty but so was he.

Archie suddenly got it and smirked at Oscar. "What if I said I want to marry Magdalen, Mr. Brown? Would you mind?"

Everyone was floored.

Marvin yelled, "I vehemently disagree!"

"Who cares what you think? Who do you think you are?"

"Yeah, look at youself. Mr. Brown should just agree. A strong alliance would boost the Brown Group."

"If that happens, it would be huge for Willow Creek."

Some reporters even started backing the idea. 'Since when did these folks start meddling in other people's affairs?' Pearl pondered.

Oscar felt uneasy under Pearl's gaze and whispered, "This is my turf. I had to plant a few people. If we got cornered, it would be a huge embarrassment."

"True." Pearl thought it made sense.

Suddenly, someone shouted, "Did Mr. Brown drug Mr. Davies because they haven't gotten together yet and wanted to resort to drastic measures?"

Oscar's smile widened, staying silent.

A sharp-eyed reporter noticed and snapped a photo, asking, "Mr. Brown, since it didn't work out, do you have a next step?"

Pearl couldn't take it anymore. What kind of reporters were these? They were so obsessed with others' privacy. Weren't they afraid their own would be exposed?

Her face darkened, and she slammed her cup down hard.

Everyone looked around, confused.

Marvin fearlessly stood up again, pointing at Archie. "I think Mr. Davies drugged himself and tried to force Magdalen. When it failed, he framed Mr. Brown. Mr. Davies, am I right?"

"Marvin, I really didn't want to argue with you here, but you keep slandering Magdalen. I can't tolerate it anymore." Archie stood up, walked to the projector, connected his phone, and played a segment of the surveillance footage.

The video was long, showing Marvin entering the Brown Group, changing clothes, and then going to the break room on the top floor.

Before the video finished, the secretary suddenly shouted, "It was you! You drugged Mr. Davies. Why did you frame me?"

She turned to Oscar, tearfully pleading, "Mr. Brown, you see, it wasn't my mistake. It was him, Marvin."

Marvin's face turned pale. He hadn't expected Oscar to have discovered the truth. Seeing no way out, he tried to escape through the back door, only to be caught by the police, who were waiting there.

"Archie, even if you get away this time, it doesn't matter. This scandal is so big, Magdalen will never agree to be with you," Marvin said.

Even at the end, he still struggled. Archie sneered in disdain.

With the truth out, there was no need for Oscar to explain anything to Archie.

The reporters began to leave, but music started playing. The surveillance footage on the wall turned into a love confession.
