Chapter 962 Mia

Jeffery's face was just as serious as he occasionally whispered to Lyra beside him. Their heads instinctively leaned closer together as they discussed the molecular structure of the drug and feedback from clinical trials, working in perfect sync.

Mia sat nearby, watching the two of them engrossed in their conversation. Feeling she couldn't contribute, she quietly observed the expressions of the Pioneer BioTech team.

She noticed Rocco's assistant frequently glancing at Jeffery and Lyra, his eyes holding a hint of something deeper.

After a heated discussion, the initial plan began to take shape.

Rocco, smiling broadly, tapped the table lightly. "Today's discussion was really productive. Everyone must be tired. How about we take a break for lunch and refine the details this afternoon?"

Everyone nodded in agreement.

As they stood up to leave, Rocco approached Lyra with a friendly smile. "Dr. Cole, you're young and talented with unique insights. I look forward to more sparks flying in our future collaborations."

Lyra responded with a modest smile, not noticing the fleeting scrutiny in Rocco's eyes. Lunch was arranged at the company's rooftop restaurant, with a table full of exquisite dishes. However, Lyra was preoccupied with the project, barely tasting the food as she absentmindedly pushed it around her plate before setting down her utensils and diving back into her notes.

Seeing this, Jeffery softly advised, "Don't overdo it. You need to balance work and rest to stay energized for the afternoon."

Lyra looked up, meeting his concerned gaze, and felt a warmth in her heart. She nodded in agreement. The afternoon meeting resumed, focusing on key points like selecting clinical trial samples and coordinating with partner hospitals.

Occasionally, disagreements arose, and the atmosphere grew tense.

Jeffery argued his points sharply, while Lyra supplemented with evidence, using a softer approach to counterbalance. Together, they managed to stabilize the situation and gradually refine the plan.

As the evening sun cast its glow through the windows onto the conference table, the final plan was finally settled.

Rocco stood up and clapped. "Great teamwork!"

Everyone smiled and shook hands in celebration.

On the way back, Lyra leaned back in her seat, exhausted but satisfied, watching the cityscape fly by outside the window. She murmured, "It was worth it. Now we just have to hope the clinical trials go smoothly."

Jeffery turned to her, his gaze gentle. "It'll be tough for a while, but don't worry, I'm here with you."

Mia, sitting in the back, watched their interaction with a smile, about to tease them when her phone suddenly vibrated.

She pulled it out, her expression changing instantly.

The caller ID showed it was a colleague from the hospital. Answering, she heard the urgent voice.

"Mia, there's an emergency. A critical patient's condition has worsened, and we need you back for a consultation. How soon can you get here?"

Mia's expression grew serious. "I understand. I'll get back as soon as possible."

Hanging up, she looked at Lyra and Jeffery with a resigned expression. "There's an emergency at the hospital. I have to leave immediately. The project will be in your hands."

Lyra looked worried. "Be careful on your way. We've got things covered here, don't worry."

Jeffery also nodded, giving her a few words of advice.

The car made a brief stop at the airport, and they watched Mia hurry away. Lyra felt a twinge of unease but couldn't pinpoint why.

Jeffery seemed to read her thoughts, gently holding her hand. "Don't overthink it. We'll stick to the plan, and everything will be fine." The following days were a whirlwind of project preparations.

Lyra and Jeffery arrived at Pioneer BioTech at dawn each day, diving into their complex work.

However, as the clinical trial preparations reached a critical stage, problems began to arise.

First, the experimental samples inexplicably got mixed up, with several key data sets not matching. Then, the equipment started malfunctioning frequently, leaving the maintenance team at their wits' end.

Lyra was frantic, spending all day in the lab, her eyes bloodshot. Jeffery, too, was stern-faced, coordinating efforts everywhere. One day, as Lyra was fretting over a pile of disordered sample records, Jeffery hurried over, looking grave.

"I don't think these are just accidents. Someone might be sabotaging us. We need to take the initiative and not just react."

Lyra bit her lip and nodded firmly. "I think so too. But who could it be?"

After some discussion, they decided to start by investigating the people they had recently interacted with. Just then, Rocco arrived with a few assistants, smiling broadly. "Mr. Gary, Dr. Cole, I heard there were some issues. I'm here to see how I can help."

Jeffery glanced at him, his expression unreadable. "Rocco, these problems are too frequent to be mere coincidences. Maybe you should check your internal management thoroughly. We can't afford to let this jeopardize our project."

Rocco's expression changed slightly, and he forced a laugh. "Of course, I've already arranged for a thorough investigation. We'll get to the bottom of this."

As he spoke, his eyes flicked towards one of his assistants. The assistant's eyes darted nervously, his expression uneasy.

Lyra caught this and exchanged a look with Jeffery, forming a plan. After Rocco and his team left, Jeffery whispered, "Keep an eye on that assistant. He's definitely involved."

Lyra nodded and discreetly arranged for someone to monitor the assistant's movements.

Sure enough, that night, they caught the assistant sneaking into the lab, trying to tamper with the remaining samples.

Jeffery quickly brought a team to catch him red-handed.

Seeing he was caught, the assistant collapsed, trembling as he confessed. It turned out that a long-absent vice director of Pioneer BioTech had been behind the sabotage.

The vice director, unhappy with being sidelined, had tried to sabotage the project to undermine Rocco and regain control of the company, disregarding the project's importance to countless patients.

Rocco was shocked and furious when he found out, personally apologizing to Lyra and Jeffery. "I was careless and didn't expect him to stoop so low. I'll make sure he's severely punished and ensure the project proceeds smoothly. Your hard work won't be in vain."

With the issue resolved, the project got back on track.

The clinical trials began as scheduled, with patients gradually receiving treatment. The daily data showed promising trends, and everyone started to relax.

After months of hard work, the project showed initial success, with the new drug demonstrating remarkable efficacy in patients, leading to numerous recovery cases. Soon, the hospital sent good news: Mia had successfully handled the emergency, and everything was running smoothly.

She called, teasing, "You two are out there winning big, but don't forget about me, stuck here at the hospital! You owe me a good treat when you get back!"

Lyra laughed. "Don't worry, we won't forget you! When we return, we'll have a big celebration and share all the stories we've saved up."

Hanging up, Lyra turned to Jeffery, her eyes sparkling.
