Chapter 761 Sudden Attack
Just when Azalea and Saskia thought the conversation had finally lightened up, Nathaniel suddenly blurted out, "So, when's she planning to pay back all that money you lent her?"
The room went dead silent.
Azalea shot a glance at Saskia, feeling torn. On one hand, there was her sister, who she loved and wanted to help. On the other, there was Nathaniel, the guy she saw herself spending her life with.
Trying to break the tension, she said, "Saskia's not the type to borrow money and not pay it back. Once she's back on her feet, she'll definitely repay us."
"And when's that gonna be?" Nathaniel pushed. "No offense, but if she's struggling with her kid's medical bills, how's she gonna handle long-term care after the surgery? How's she ever gonna pay us back?"
Azalea was speechless, unable to calm things down.
To her, the money wasn't a big deal; lending it to Saskia wouldn't really affect their lives. After all, Saskia was her sister. But she knew Nathaniel might not see it that way.
"I..." Saskia started, but the words just wouldn't come out.
"It's fine. I'm just messing with you. The kid's health is what really matters. If you don't have the money right now, you can owe us and pay us back when you can," Nathaniel suddenly softened his tone.
Hearing this, Azalea let out a huge sigh of relief.
She playfully punched Nathaniel a couple of times and said, "You really scared me there! I thought you were serious. I always knew you were the best. You even agreed to let Saskia move in with us, so I know you won't make a fuss about this."
"You should head upstairs and rest for a bit. I need to start cooking, and pregnant women shouldn't be around the fumes. I'll call you when dinner's ready," Nathaniel said, finding an excuse to send her off.
Azalea stood up happily, realizing that Nathaniel truly cared for her, even wanting to protect her from the cooking fumes. Compared to pregnant women who had to juggle all the household chores, she felt incredibly lucky.
Watching Azalea's silhouette fade away, Saskia knew that Nathaniel was gearing up to confront her.
Everything he said earlier was definitely not a joke.
Sure enough, as soon as Azalea closed the door, Nathaniel sat down next to Saskia. "So, how do you plan to pay back the money?" he asked.
Saskia replied, "I'll work hard to earn it. I can go out at night..."
"Saskia," Nathaniel cut her off bluntly, "I don't want to catch any diseases from you."
Saskia's face turned pale. "I meant working night shifts sorting packages, not something shady."
"How much can you make sorting packages? Two hundred dollars a night at most? How long will it take you to pay me back? Just that diamond ring alone will take you years to earn," Nathaniel exclaimed, not hiding his disdain.
Just as Saskia was wracking her brain for a solution, Nathaniel said, "You can't pay this back on your own. I can show you a way."
"Just tell me," Saskia replied hurriedly.
She was willing to do any job, no matter how hard or exhausting, to earn the money.
But she never expected what Nathaniel suggested next.He said, "Be my mistress."
Saskia's first instinct was to refuse.
Nathaniel was already making her life hell. If she took his money and became his mistress, things would only get worse.
But reality was staring her in the face, and saying no wasn't really an option.
"Instead of being with different men, why not stay with me? I'll pay you more than anyone else. How about fifty grand a month? If you make me happy, I'll even throw in some bonuses." Nathaniel's words felt like daggers piercing Saskia's heart.
She was already so broken.
Nathaniel pressed on, "Or do you really think that since you borrowed the money from Azalea, you can just ignore it forever and she won't say a word?"
Saskia asserted, "No, I will pay it back. But if you want me to be your mistress, there's one condition."
Nathaniel leaned in, intrigued. "Go ahead," he urged, eager to hear what she would say.
Saskia said, "I'll be your mistress for three months. You can do whatever you want in those three months. After that, you let Azalea and me go, and we never see each other again. Deal?"
This way, she could explain things to Benjamin and avoid further trouble.
Azalea wouldn't have to keep suffering either.
As for Nathaniel, after tormenting Saskia for three months, he should be satisfied and could go back to being the heir of the Egan family, living a respectable life.
It seemed like a win-win situation.
But Nathaniel wasn't having it. His gaze sharpened, and he replied, "Saskia, do you really think three months is enough for me to just let you go? Are you dreaming?"
He had suffered for four years!
Three months was nothing compared to that. No way he was letting it go so easily.
"Then how long do you want to keep me?" Saskia asked.
At worst, she could negotiate with Jade.
After four years, as long as they could part ways, Jade probably wouldn't mind an extra month or a month less.
"A lifetime," Nathaniel replied, shattering her hopes. "If I let you go, you might run off with Benjamin's biological father. Even if I'm done with you, I still want you close. Think about Benjamin."
"Nathaniel!" Saskia was desperate.
Why did everyone use Benjamin to threaten her?
Jade did it, and now Nathaniel too.
"You don't deserve to say my name. From now on, whenever we're together, you will call me Master. For every time you do, I'll give you a thousand dollars." Nathaniel pulled out a wad of cash and threw it at Saskia.
The shame was suffocating.
Saskia felt an urge to walk away. She didn't want the money or the humiliation that came with it.
However, Benjamin was still in the hospital. Twenty-some thousand dollars would only cover the basic treatment, not the surgery.
She could compromise her dignity, but she wouldn't risk Benjamin's life. As thoughts of his sweet little face filled her mind, Saskia bent down.
One by one, she picked up the bills, shattering her self-respect with each piece.
Nathaniel observed her coldly. "I used to think you were searching for love, but I was mistaken. What you really want is money. And I have more than enough. How much you get depends on your skills."
