Chapter 515 We Can Bear It Together
"I'm not against you being with Pearl. I'm just worried..."
"No need to worry. Whatever happens, I'll face it with him," Pearl cut in, walking up to them.
Oscar's determination was unwavering.
Pearl felt uneasy. She was thinking about Oscar, but he was thinking about her.
Why couldn't they just plan their future together?
Pearl smiled at Oscar and they held hands.
RavenWing sided with Pearl. "You've made your choice, so I'll support you. I won't bring this up again."
From Charles' perspective, he understood Charles' actions.
Oscar defied orders and went against Charles. Since Charles saved him, if it was pointless, he might as well not have saved Oscar.
After RavenWing spoke, he left.
He knew Oscar and Pearl had a lot to discuss.
Once he was gone, Pearl hugged Oscar, her voice shaky. "Oscar, no matter what happens, we'll face it together. We'll stay together and be happy!"
"Okay. You and Christopher stay safe, I'll handle Charles."
Oscar had a plan but didn't get to explain it to Pearl.
"I know. But I'm worried about you. Think about me and Christopher, and stay safe," Pearl said, touching Oscar's face.
Oscar held her hand tightly. "Of course."
But RavenWing acted before Oscar could.
RavenWing contacted Charles.
"I saw your people. Serenea's struggling, and the Eldorians will give you medicine and supplies for free."
RavenWing had one condition: let Oscar and Pearl be together.
But Charles wanted Oscar to lead Serenea. With Oscar's skills, he could elevate Serenea.
Unfortunately, Oscar wasn't interested.
Charles wanted to see how long Oscar could hold out.
"I get your concern for your daughter, but this isn't for me to decide." Charles hung up.
RavenWing stayed silent. Only Oscar could handle Charles.
Oscar wanted to be with Pearl, so he wouldn't let anything happen to himself. He made plans and asked to meet Charles.
Charles agreed. He had invested a lot in Oscar and had big ambitions.
He underestimated Oscar, leading to him being surrounded by Oscar's people.
Oscar wouldn't harm Charles like Charles had harmed him, but he knew how dangerous Charles was, so he had him tied up.
"I grew up with the Browns; you didn't raise me. I won't kill you, but your people..." Oscar left the sentence hanging.
His expression was cold and firm.
Charles sneered. "If you could harm innocent people, you wouldn't be a peacekeeper. Oscar, I don't think you can go that far."
Oscar wouldn't kill Charles or let Serenea fall apart, so they'd just see who could hold out longer.
Oscar stuck to this plan.
Meanwhile, Pearl brought Charles three meals a day.
Charles refused to eat and was cold to Pearl. "Do you think feeding me will change my mind?"
Pearl replied, "You're his father. I don't want this standoff to continue. If you want to talk, let's talk. If not, just eat."
She hadn't done anything wrong and didn't get why Charles was so hostile.
Charles saw Pearl was different from RavenWing, who was obsessed with experiments and did terrible things back then.
Pearl spoke slowly, "I know you think Mackenzie can help Oscar."
Charles didn't respond, but his silence said enough.
Pearl smiled. "I haven't even accepted my father yet. I know he's changed, but I've seen too much war and cruelty. Do you think mutual destruction between Serenea and the Eldorians is a good outcome?"
Charles was Oscar's father. If he wanted Oscar dead, he wouldn't have saved him.
That's why she was talking to him.
She didn't expect to change his mind, but hoped her words and actions would make him understand. After all, he was a leader.
Charles didn't respond, but Pearl's words hit home. He wanted Oscar by his side forever.
He hadn't expected Oscar to care so little about these things.
Charles had an idea. "I can stop opposing you, but you and Oscar must come back to Serenea with me."
Oscar stepped in. "I've left Serenea; I'm not going back. And Christopher is getting treatment here. If you had a solution, he wouldn't still be in this condition. Think it over."
Some things only Charles could resolve.
Oscar put his arm around Pearl and walked out.
Charles wasn't held by the Eldorians; Oscar had arranged a place for him. Pearl found out and came to cook for Charles, leading to this moment.
"Have you eaten?"
Pearl leaned on his shoulder. "I was waiting for you. Are you okay?"
Pearl always worried about his health.
When the poison acted up, Oscar was in pain but didn't want Pearl to worry. "I'm fine. He's just trying to scare me. He won't drag this out for long. After we eat, you should go back to see Christopher and talk to him."
Pearl had made Christopher more talkative since he stayed with her.
Pearl said firmly, "I will, but we'll go back together."
Given the situation, she couldn't leave Oscar alone.
