Chapter 900 Here Again
Lyra instinctively wanted to follow, but a nurse reached out to stop her.
"Dr. Cole, you can't leave right now. We need to get to the bottom of this," the nurse said firmly.
"I swear, I didn't push him. He just had a seizure out of nowhere. You have to believe me," Lyra pleaded, but the nurse just shook her head and stayed silent.
Just then, hospital security arrived and escorted Lyra to an office to await further action.
Lyra sat in a chair, hugging herself tightly.
Before long, the hospital's leadership and officials arrived, their faces grim as they looked at Lyra and began to scold her harshly.
"Dr. Cole, as a medical professional, how could you do something like this in the hospital? This is a serious violation of hospital regulations and professional ethics!"
"No matter the reason, your actions could bring a significant negative impact to the hospital!"
Lyra tried to defend herself, but her voice was drowned out by the barrage of accusations. She could only lower her head helplessly, tears welling up in her eyes.
Just as Lyra was feeling utterly hopeless, Heath and Elowen rushed to the hospital upon hearing the news.
They burst into the room where Aaron lay unconscious. Elowen collapsed to the floor, crying uncontrollably.
Heath, his face contorted with rage, stormed towards the office where Lyra was.
As soon as Heath saw Lyra, he charged at her, raising his hand to strike her, but security intervened just in time.
"You've ruined Aaron's life! You deserve to die!" Heath roared in fury.
"You wretch! Look at what you've done to Aaron! What are you going to do about it?" Elowen screamed, her hands flailing as she tried to grab Lyra.
Lyra sobbed, "I didn't push him. He suddenly had a seizure."
But Heath wouldn't listen to her explanation.
Heath, though slightly calmer, spoke with cutting words, "Lyra, no matter what, Aaron is in this state because of you. Our family has treated you well, and you can't just walk away."
"You have to marry Aaron and take care of him for the rest of his life, or we won't let you go. Otherwise, we won't want to live either. We'll die right in front of you!"
With that, Heath pulled a small knife from his pocket, threatening to cut his wrist.
Seeing this, Elowen ran to the window ledge, climbing up and crying out, "Lyra, if you don't agree, I'll jump from here and make you live with the guilt forever!"
This sudden turn of events shocked everyone present.
The hospital leaders quickly surrounded Elowen, cautiously approaching her while anxiously trying to calm her down. "Mrs. Hill, please calm down. Don't do anything rash. We can talk this through."
At the same time, they turned to Lyra with glares, shouting, "Lyra, look at what you've done! Agree to their demands, or do you want someone to die?"
"Because of you, the hospital is in chaos. Do you want to drag us into a legal mess too?"
Lyra, her face streaked with tears, looked helplessly at the leaders.
"I'm innocent. I can't agree to such an unreasonable demand just because I'm being wronged."
Lyra cried, but her voice was drowned out by the chaos and accusations around her.
Heath added fuel to the fire, "Lyra, don't think you can escape responsibility. If you don't agree today, Aaron and Elowen will suffer, and it will all be your fault!"
At this critical moment, Jeffery happened to be at the hospital to pick something up.
Drawn by the commotion, he quickly assessed the chaotic scene, his brow furrowing.
Jeffery walked briskly towards Elowen, speaking calmly, "Mrs. Hill, please come down from the ledge. This is too dangerous. I'm the hospital director, and I promise we'll thoroughly investigate this and give you a fair explanation."
"If you act impulsively now, it won't solve anything and will only make things worse."
As he spoke, he signaled to the security guards.
The guards understood and quietly approached the ledge, ready to act at the right moment to save Elowen.
Jeffery then turned to Heath.
"Mr. Hill, it's unreasonable to pressure Dr. Cole before the investigation is complete. We can't assign blame based on one side of the story. That goes against the principles of law and justice."
Heath scoffed, "Mr. Gray, don't be fooled by Lyra. We saw her harm Aaron with our own eyes."
Jeffery responded calmly, "I understand your feelings, but the hospital has procedures, and the police will investigate. The truth will come out."
"Dr. Cole has always performed well here. We can't make hasty judgments without evidence."
He then addressed the hospital leaders.
"Until the police arrive, let's not panic or blindly accuse Dr. Cole. We must base our actions on facts and cooperate with the investigation."
The leaders exchanged glances, still dissatisfied but silently nodding under Jeffery's authority.
Jeffery turned back to Heath and Elowen. "Mr. Hill, Mrs. Hill, I understand your concern for Aaron, but extreme actions won't solve the problem."
"I will personally oversee this matter and ensure the best medical team examines Aaron to find the true cause of his condition."
"If Dr. Cole is at fault, she will be held accountable. But if she's innocent, we can't let her suffer unjustly."
Elowen, calmed by Jeffery's words, slowly climbed down from the ledge with the help of the guards.
Heath, though still angry, was no longer as aggressive.
Lyra, her face tear-streaked, looked gratefully at Jeffery.
Jeffery gently patted Lyra's shoulder, offering silent comfort.
This seemingly ordinary gesture was misinterpreted by Heath and Elowen.
"Oh, I see why you won't marry Aaron. You have an affair with the director!"
"You shameless pair, are you conspiring against Aaron?"
Lyra quickly explained, "You're mistaken. Mr. Gray is only acting out of concern and fairness. There's nothing improper between us."
But Heath and Elowen wouldn't listen. Lyra's refusal and Jeffery's support had become "evidence" of their guilt.
Jeffery frowned and spoke sternly, "Mr. Hill, Mrs. Hill, your baseless accusations are inappropriate."
"As the hospital director, I promise to uncover the truth. If Dr. Cole is at fault, she will face the consequences. But until then, please refrain from spreading rumors and causing trouble."
Heath and Elowen remained relentless. Elowen clung to Heath's arm, saying, "We can't let this go. We need justice for Aaron. I can't swallow this anger!"
Heath nodded in agreement, his eyes filled with determination.
