Chapter 396 You Know Him Best
"Mr. Brown called me."
Harold couldn't lie.
And it was true!
Pearl stayed quiet.
Oscar contacted Harold, not her. He was really protecting her!
Penelope grabbed her hand, "Pearl, you missed it last time, but our play won again. I booked a big room at Golden Gastronomy Haven. We're all going!"
Before Pearl could respond, Emma's voice came from afar, "Looks like I made it just in time."
Everyone turned to look while Emma was walking over with a bouquet.
Penelope laughed, "Let's all go together."
"Wait!" Barbara, with sharp eyes, saw Harold trying to leave. She gave him a stern look, "Take out your phone."
Everyone was surprised.
Harold and Pearl exchanged glances, and it all made sense.
Harold quickly pulled out his phone, unlocked it, and handed it to Pearl with the call log open.
Pearl glanced at it.
The first number was Oscar's. She clicked on it and saw it was indeed Oscar who called, but the call lasted only a few seconds.
Pearl said nothing, and everyone understood.
Just when Harold thought Pearl would call Oscar, she handed the phone back and said calmly, "I don't want the flowers. You deal with them."
Harold wanted to cry.
So many flowers, what was he supposed to do?
Just as he was about to speak, Penelope laughed, "It's just two bouquets. Take them to her place, throw them out, or sell them on the street for a dollar each."
Harold was at a loss.
He decided to take them back to Pearl's place. If Oscar found out, he'd be in big trouble.
Barbara stayed by Pearl's side, handling all her discharge procedures.
Now Pearl followed her friends.
There were many people around, but Pearl still felt empty because Oscar wasn't there, nor was the child she had once hoped for.
And it was a boy!
Boys tend to look like their fathers.
Every time she thought of this, Pearl clenched her palm hard, forcing herself not to think deeply.
Penelope had booked a large private room at Golden Gastronomy Haven.
Initially, it was just Penelope and Eileen. Because of Pearl, their two plays were now huge hits.
Janetta stayed by Pearl's side, trying to lighten the mood. She wanted Pearl to be happy. Seeing everyone cheering, Pearl didn't want to spoil the fun.
She sang along.
They raised their glasses together. Since she couldn't drink alcohol, she drank juice.
There was even a giant fireworks show later, which was arranged by Eileen, with Pearl's initials in the sky.
To highlight Pearl's importance and thank her for recognizing her talent, Eileen had the fireworks made in blue.
Eileen hugged Pearl, "Pearl, thank you. Do you like the blue fireworks?"
"They're beautiful."
They really were.
Maybe because she hadn't spoken for a while, Pearl's throat felt blocked and hoarse.
At that moment, it felt like someone was hitting her heart with a giant iron hammer. Such a beautiful scene, so many people, but Oscar was missing.
Oscar had given her everything, even wanting to help her find Adrian.
At that moment, Oscar's face appeared in her mind, and her heart ached.
But then she suddenly thought of the child who had died.
She hadn't even seen the child.
Some things couldn't be thought about. Once she did, she couldn't control her emotions.
"I need to go to the restroom."
Pearl was right next to Eileen, who was the first to notice something was wrong, seeing the redness in her eyes.
Eileen followed her out.
She saw Pearl with her hands on the sink, silently crying as if an invisible hand was gripping her heart.
She was affected.
"Pearl."
Eileen walked over.
Pearl didn't expect her to follow. She had been controlling her emotions well, but at that moment, she couldn't hold back.
"Eileen, I have fame and fortune now, and you all are celebrating for me. I know I should be happy. But! I just can't be happy. I feel so empty, so empty here."
As she spoke, Pearl pointed to her heart.
Anyone who saw Pearl and Oscar's later interactions would say they were a loving couple.
But Oscar left, disappearing without a trace.
What Eileen didn't know was that Pearl didn't just feel Oscar had left. Adrian had gone to find a cure for her and was still missing, and Jeffery was nowhere to be found. Even the child she carried for ten months had left her.
No, her heart wasn't empty. It was a feeling of numbness and not knowing what to do every day, yet not being able to die. She felt suffocated every day.
Eileen patted her shoulder and said hoarsely, "Pearl, what you have now is something many people can only dream of. You have to understand, some people leave not because they want to. Mr. Brown will definitely come back to you once he's done with his business."
Eileen could only comfort Pearl this way. In fact, Oscar giving everything to Pearl already said it all.
Oscar cared deeply for Pearl, loved her so much he would risk his life.
Once Oscar finished his business, he would surely return to Pearl, and they would live happily together.
They could still have children in the future.
Pearl and Oscar's children would surely have excellent genes, but it was a pity about the child they had already lost.
Pearl gave a bitter laugh.
With her current status, everyone thought she had surpassed many, with money and status, and they believed Oscar would return.
What she wanted wasn't money or status, nor for Oscar to leave and then come back. What she wanted was always simple.
No matter what happened, she and Oscar would face it together.
"He thought giving me these things was a guarantee. But if he doesn't come back, or if we're separated, what good are these things?"
Material possessions can't be taken with you when you die. Only emotions are real. A person's life is supported by family, friendship, and love.
Eileen patted her shoulder and said hoarsely, "Mr. Brown left these things for you to give you security. His departure must have been for a good reason. Pearl, you two are married. Don't you know him best?"
