Chapter 750 Safety Net

Nathaniel's folks, Robbie and Jade Egan, were a real handful. When it came to Nathaniel's marriage, they were all about social status and family background.

But the woman Nathaniel wanted to marry? She had no fancy background and wasn't rolling in dough.

How could his parents ever accept her?

Nathaniel turned to Clarence and said, "Remember that mess you got into overseas? I was the one who flew out to bail you out. You're not gonna rat me out now, are you?"

Clarence quickly shook his head, showing his loyalty. "Nathaniel, come on, we're tight. I wouldn't sell you out even if it meant betraying my own dad. Today's events stay between us. But..."

He continued, "But even if I keep quiet, they won't stay in the dark forever. They'll find out sooner or later."

Robbie and Jade were already setting up blind dates for Nathaniel, and the pressure was only gonna get worse.

Once they found out about this, it would be like a volcano erupting, and nobody would have a good time.

"As long as you can keep it a secret, that's all that matters. I didn't invite any family members, just you. Don't let me down." Nathaniel patted Clarence's shoulder.

Clarence shivered, his face looking grim. "Got it," he said.

Then he found his seat and looked around, feeling a headache coming on.

What a mess!

Just then, Jade sent Clarence a message: [Clarence, I'm looking for potential matches for Nathaniel. Can you help me out? I don't really know what you young people like.]

She followed up with various photos, ranging from cute to sexy to mature styles.

The only common factor was that these girls all came from good families.

Clarence glanced through the photos and then looked at Azalea in her dress. Clarence: [I think the most important thing is who Nathaniel likes. If he doesn't want her, it doesn't matter how pretty she is.]

Jade: [I can let him choose from these, but I won't let him pick just anyone. Give me some advice quickly.]

At her age, she still firmly believed in the principle of matching social status. How could she suddenly change her mind?

Thinking of this, Clarence continued to placate her.

When he put down his phone, the engagement party officially began. Azalea and Nathaniel stood together, their fingers tightly intertwined.

Two pairs of eyes were fixed on them.

One pair belonged to Clarence. Seeing the couple, he couldn't help but think of Jade and imagine the chaos that would ensue.

The other pair belonged to Saskia.

Her nails were digging into her palms, but she didn't feel any pain.

She desperately wanted to stop everything, but she didn't dare.

If Azalea found out, she would undoubtedly abort the baby and cut ties with Saskia forever.

In her rage, Azalea was capable of anything.

Saskia didn't want to push Azalea to that point.

The host continued speaking, but Saskia didn't hear a word. She also had no appetite. She was in a daze until the engagement party wrapped up and everyone else had left. Azalea came over and called her, "Saskia, what's on your mind? You seemed so lost in thought. I noticed that from the stage."

"Azalea, do you really love him?" Saskia mustered the courage to ask, seeing the concern in Azalea's eyes.

Maybe she could make them break up.

Azalea was taken aback by her words. Then Azalea replied, "Of course. You're not trying to talk me out of it, are you?"

Hearing this, Saskia fell silent.

Azalea continued, "Our relationship is solid. I really love him. He's perfect in every way, and most importantly, I'm pregnant. I know you don't trust men or believe in love, but it's different when I'm a mother. I can't let my child grow up without a father."

Azalea then grabbed Saskia's hand and placed it on her belly. "There's already a little life here. I have to think about my child. And now that the engagement party is over, we have to stay together."

What could Saskia say to that?

She had loved before and knew all too well the feeling of being deeply in love.

But Nathaniel...

At that moment, Nathaniel strode over and said, "If you two sisters want to whisper to each other, you can do it when we get home. It's late now, so let's hurry back."

He took Azalea's arm, and they stood together.

Seeing this, Saskia had no choice but to follow them out.

As they passed the hotel front desk, Azalea went to settle the bill with Nathaniel's card.

Saskia waited, but suddenly, Nathaniel grabbed her arm.

They stood in the lobby, where Azalea could easily see them if she turned around.

Saskia, like a startled cat, quickly shook off his hand. She said, "Don't do that."

"Then behave tonight and don't make me angry. My patience is limited." With that, Nathaniel didn't push further.

On the way home, Azalea chatted happily, her mood soaring.

The happier she was, the more uncomfortable Saskia felt.

When they arrived at the villa, Nathaniel was about to get out of the car when he received a call. After hanging up, he told Azalea, "I'll be back later. There's something at the firm I need to handle."

"Okay. Go ahead." Azalea waved him off.

Yet Nathaniel didn't leave immediately. He looked at Saskia and hinted, "Saskia, shouldn't you say goodbye?"

"Goodbye," Saskia said.

Only then did Nathaniel drive away.

Azalea then led Saskia into the villa, grabbed a drink from the fridge, and brought out some snacks. She said, "Saskia, make yourself at home. He gave me his salary card. There's $200,000 on it. You can use it."

Saskia glanced at the card on the table and recognized the number. It was the same one Nathaniel had given her when they were in love.

She said, "Since he gave it to you, keep it. I can't take the money." Saskia needed money, but she had to think of Azalea.

Nathaniel was out for revenge. Who knew what he might do next?

If he suddenly kicked them out and refused to give money, this card would be Azalea's safety net.
